Can't install Creo 8 - launch setup.exe

Hi Folks,

 

yesterday I couldn't start Creo 8 on my Windows 11 Surface Pro 8, which I use for university projects. So I tried a few things but as Creo sometimes is a bit wonky, I decided to reinstall it from scratch. It is important that I had it installed before in the exact version (8.0.4.0) I am trying to install now.

As I now try to install it again, I run the setup.exe file as an administrator, but nothing happens. It just creates this error-log in the event viewer:

so I assume it's got a problem with the baselibmt.dll file. I have really tried anything, got a baselibmt file from a friend which is known to be working, turned off Hyper-V virtualization, updated everything, countless reboots, installed a new .Net Framework, deleted everything that is remotely correlated to PTC or Creo, tried installing it on an external harddrive... nothing works.

 

I would really appreciate any help at this point.

Hi,

I do not think that anybody knows how to resolve your problem. My guess is that the problem was caused by some Windows 11 update.

 

Immediate solutions?

  • use different computer
  • install virtual machine on Surface Pro 8 & install Creo inside it

Note: Uninstalling Creo not a good idea. If it is necessary you can let current installation intact and install another instance into different installation directory.

Hi,

you can try procedure mentioned in https://community.ptc.com/t5/PTC-Education-Forum/running-setup-exe-does-nothing-Creo-8-0/td-p/793740 by DD_10300911 user, i.e. cleaning some directories before starting setup.exe.

  • login as Administrator
  • clean Documents directory
  • clean %TEMP% directory
  • start setup.exe
