Issue with Creo File Saving Location and Error Messages After Moving Files

Hello,

I am currently working with Creo Parametric (Educational Edition version 11) and encountered an issue regarding the default file-saving location. After creating a few models, I found that files were being saved to C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Documents instead of the folder I selected in This PC\Documents. To resolve this, I moved all the Creo files from OneDrive to a new folder located at C:\Users\<username> and updated my working directory settings in Creo accordingly.

After doing so, I deleted the OneDrive folder from C:\Users\<username>. However, when I relaunched Creo, I received error messages (image uploaded), even though everything appears to be working properly—I can create new models and edit existing ones without issues.

Could you provide guidance on how to fix this issue or if there's anything I missed in the process? Should I expect any future problems as a result of these error messages, or is this something I can safely ignore?

Thank you for your time and assistance. Screenshot (31).pngScreenshot (32).png

Hey, I found that I don’t have the 'buw' folder in my working directory. Previously, I had it in my OneDrive folder but didn’t know it was important for Creo; I thought it would create those files automatically. I found the 'buw' folder on my friend’s PC and in my school systems as well. It contains IFX and AFX files. Will copying that folder to my working directory fix the IFX issue? Also, what’s the other error message? What is a trail file, and where can I find it?

Hi,

test adding following option into config.pro

intelligent_fastener_enabled no

If error disappears then it is related to IFX. After completing the test, remove the above option again.

Also you can try solution used in Creo 10.0. No guarantee that it will solve the problem

Copy the files "_ifx_start_mdl.cfg", "ifx_options.xml", "ifx_pin_data.cfg", "ifx_screw_data.cfg" from <Creo Parametric load point>\<Creo Version>\Common Files\ifx\configuration directory to C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\buw\IFX\11.0 directory.

Note: I do not know what is the contents 'buw' folder on friend’s PC. Therefore I do not know if copying of this directory will solve the problem. If you copy it, it probably won't break anything.

Hi,

check Start in field in Creo startup shortcut properties.

Also add following option at the end of config.pro file.

file_open_default_folder   working_directory

Thanks! I made the edits as per your instructions. I updated the 'Start in' field, but had a hard time finding the config.pro file. I found it in PTC\Creo 11.0.0.0\Common Files\text and edited it. However, when I started Creo, I got the same errors again. I restarted my PC and tried starting Creo again, but the errors are still there.Screenshot (35).pngScreenshot (36).pngScreenshot (37).pngScreenshot (38).png

EDIT: believe it or not... I believe I solved this.  I started by troubleshooting why I could NOT delete my OneDrive folder in my user folder.  Turns out that Windows (11 in my case) uses this as a default folder... I'm assuming this is why it kept returning.  So I found an article by PC Gamer that showed how to edit the registry to change these default folders back to the original NON OneDrive folders:

https://www.pcgamer.com/onedrive-default-folder-location-fix-disabled-keeps-recreating/

I did this, then re-enabled IFX in my Creo config file and the program no longer gives me an error every time I start it up.

Another thing to note: before I did this, I did re-download the OneDrive app and "unlinked my account" under "settings".  Then I re-uninstalled OneDrive again. Not sure if that is required or not... but I did it beforehand so I thought I'd mention it.

What a PITA Microsoft....

I am having this same issue in Creo 9.  For whatever reason, Creo requires that "BUW" folder to be within the OneDrive documents folder.  I, too, do not want that OneDrive folder to exist.  In fact, even before I installed Creo, I uninstalled OneDrive entirely. It seems this folder was still a remnant.

I cannot figure out what config/installation option in Creo points the program to that OneDrive Documents folder.  I have given up at this point and disabled IFX because I don't use it anyways.

If anyone else has a proper solution for this... just in case I do need to use IFX, I'd love to hear it!  Is it a Creo install issue? Or a Windows "default" folder selection issue?  Under my "user" documents folder, I have that same BUW folder.... but Creo is still not happy.  I can't figure out how to point it to the new NON OneDrive Documents folder.
