PTC/USER is pleased to announce our winter meeting event:   PTC/USER Technical Community Open Forum February 7-9, 2017 at the Boston Park Plaza, Boston, MA Registration cost: $400; Room rate: $129/night   The winter PTC/USER meeting has traditionally been exclusive to the Technical Committees. We are introducing a new concept. A simple four track agenda, CAD, PLM, ALM, and Retail, organized by the Technical Committees and the Board of Directors open to all members of PTC/USER.   The format will concentrate on brief topic introductions followed by open discussion. Change Management process needs can vary in scope and scale based upon an company's needs and stage of the product development cycle.  It is important that a Change Management process easily maps to these needs.   This session highlighted new flexible Change Associations in Windchill 11 specific to managing engineering changes in order to support a broad range of business process needs.   For example, if you need to connect your Problem Report to a Change Notice the new Change Associations can do this with simple configuration.  The session covered how the Change Associations can be used, and cover what to know for both new as well as migrated installations including workflow, reporting and more.

The session discussed the new functionality in Mathcad Prime 4.0 and the next release of Mathcad. The session included a review of the Engineering Notebook, powered by Mathcad; the integration between Mathcad and Creo, and details on Mathcad Gateway, the new calculation server based on Mathcad, and an update on functionality planned for future releases.

There are good bottom-up techniques to build manageable large assemblies from the get-go, but what do you do when  handed a task and a dataset from a less-than-diligent modeler? How do you square away a problem dataset without remodeling the whole thing? What if it’s gotten so large, you can’t even open it?  In this session, the presenter shared some outside-the-box tricks for manipulating large datasets, getting them back into shape and efficiently usable. The presenter touched on config.pro options and standard techniques every large assembly modeler should employ. Attendees learned about creative uses of the model tree, layer management, feature redefinition, trail file scrutiny, and vendor model reconfiguration. And how these techniques  allow modelers to speed up a dataset’s retrieval and manipulation, and get productivity back on track.

Product information on a data level is often managed by many different disciplines in a manufacturing company. Marketing looks after Data sheets, R&D has their own data set of product attributes and so on. The information is often stored in different databases or at worst just as a text string in a document. The challenge is with growing product portfolios, increased regulations and large organizations, to manage this data-set in a single source environment and to be re-used in all depending documentation. This session will present a possible way to solve the problem using XML and CMS as a single source using different layers of authoring to allow the whole organization to contribute. Hi everyone, my name is Geoffrey Baxter. I'm a 12-year PTC veteran and resident of the greater Houston metro area. I, along with Tim Cooper, will be leading the Greater Houston PTC User Group. We would like to get the group up and running again on whatever scale we can, and we will be reaching out to you soon to get your opinions on how we can best do this. In the meantime, I'd like to introduce myself and give you all the opportunity to do the same.   I began using PTC products in 2004 as a mechanical design intern at a small company in Provo, UT, beginning with Pro/E Wildfire 2. I was transferred to a sister company a few months later, and after a pair of acquisitions, I became a National Oilwell Varco employee, working for NOV IntelliServ, an oil/gas drilling technology company. During my time at IntelliServ, I graduated from BYU with a BSME.   A little over a year after I graduated, I had the opportunity to transfer do a different division of NOV to work on oil/gas drill
