Sick day Friday.... Hope you had a great weekend.   Social Skills: Engineers have different objectives when it comes to social interaction. "Normal" people expect to accomplish several unrealistic things from social interaction: *Stimulating and thought-provoking conversation *Important social contacts *A feeling of connectedness with other humans   In contrast to "normal" people, engineers have rational objectives for social interactions: *Get it over with as soon as possible. *Avoid getting invited to something unpleasant. *Demonstrate mental superiority and mastery of all subjects.

I hope your bracket is not busted already.   Several scientists were all posed the following question: "What is 2 * 2 ?" The engineer whips out his slide rule (so it's old) and shuffles it back and forth, and finally announces "3.99". The physicist consults his technical references, sets up the problem on his computer, and announces "it lies between 3.98 and 4.02". The mathematician cogitates for a while, then announces: "I don't know what the answer is, but I can tell you, an answer exists!". Philosopher smiles: "But what do you mean by 2 * 2 ?" Logician replies: "Please define 2 * 2 more precisely."  The sociologist: "I don't know, but is was nice talking about it". Medical Student : "4" All others looking astonished : "How did you know ??" Medical Student : :I memorized it."

To My Fellow Women PTC Community Members (+ their supporters :),   It is Friday night and some may not read this until Monday. But, I wanted to personally wish you a Happy International Women's Day!  It is a day to reflect on your accomplishments and the challenges that were pushed out of your way from the women that came before you.  We should all (male or female) also recognize the women that have been influential in helping us get to where we are today.   My mom, my sisters, my teachers, my career mentors, and my friends that have walked beside me, "Thank you for always sticking by  and helping me "balance" the pursuit of my passion, continuous learning, and life's mountain top experiences and responsibilities along the way!"   Below are pictures of how PTC celebrated International Women's Day.  Feel free to reply with your own company celebration pictures or tell us what women have been influential in your life!

L. organized the seminar in hydrodynamics in his University. Among the regular attendees there were two men in the uniform, obviously military engineers. They never discussed the problems they were working on. But one day they ask L. to help with a math. problem. They explained that the solution of a certain equation oscillated and asked how they should change the coefficients to make it monotonic. L. looked on the equation and said: "Make the wings longer!"

Here at PTC this week we celebrated "Week of Caring."   The PTC Week of Caring program was created in 2010 to encourage PTC’s global employees to make a difference in the lives of others and invest in our community. Charitable events and activities of all kinds are held around the world at this time by individuals, teams, and entire offices. It's a great opportunity to positively impact our community!     From donation drives to packing food for those in need and beyond, PTC offices around the world put together plans to give back to their communities.   Your PTC Community Manager wasn't very good at grabbing pictures of these good deeds(Sorry :(), but here is Ally from Employee Communications which is the awesome team that puts on our special events.  It is amazing that when several people put together $1 and $5 donations for a cause it can make such an impact on important charities like Rosie's Place           &nb

The pharmacist says "Here's a pill for English literature." Have a terrific weekend on the eve of the advent season.   Yeah, I used to think it was just recreational... then I started doin' it during the week... you know, simple stuff: differentiation, kinematics. Then I got into integration by parts... I started doin' it every night: path integrals, holomorphic functions. Now I'm on diophantine equations and sinking deeper into transfinite analysis. Don't let them tell you it's just recreational.   Fortunately, I can quit any time I want.
