Question

License get lost when notebook disconnects from network

The case:

the user is in the middle of a Creo session, when he (spontaneously) disconnects his notebook and goes into a meeting.

What is the right behaviour to "save" his license, so he does not loose any work when getting back to work?

Any sugestions? Thanks.

Hi,

please do not expect that there is simple universal solution .

Note:

I guess that notebook takes Creo license from different computer - license server.

1.]

When user disconnects his notebook from network, Creo loses the connection to the license server and in short time (1-3 minutes) reports "lost license".

If user is saving his work after modification, then everything is OK. In case of "not saving" the result depends on current situation.

Recommendation for user >>> Save, Save, Save !!!

2.]

To be independent on license server, user can borrow a license. In this case connection to the license server is not needed after disconnecting from LAN.

But ... user must know how to borrow a license.

Info:

Windows on notebook must be configured properly to disable DHCP media sense.

Hi Martin.

Thanks for your comment.

So, even worst: he tooks a second license, when reconnecting to network again, the old one keeps being checked out.

So, a reliable solution, without borrow (because only available in days) would be, to save the license when leaving the desk for a few minutes and changing to WLAN e.g. but how?

Beside this: saving is a survival thing, when working with Creo, it always was.

The user should not take a second license since the first one was dropped by the server due to non-use. You may have to modify the timeout period in the flexnet OPT file to force the license return in a reasonable time.. The default is 7200 seconds or 2 hours.

Changing from a wireless connection to a wired connection might actually pull a second license since it is 2 different NIC addresses pulling licenses. If the user is frequently moving between wired and wireless connections and use Creo full-time, I would pull a license from the server pool and reassign it to his laptop permanently.
