Question

PTC Creo 8.0 Hardware Support Dell

We are using Creo parametric 8.0.8.0. The model of laptop has changed to Dell Pro Max16.

There are a lot of unknown issues during Creo operations like sudden shut-down of Creo, taking too long to open assemblies compare to old laptops and so on.

Dell Pro Max16 is on Creo parametric PTC Creo 10.0 Hardware Support Dell while it is not on PTC Creo 8.0 Hardware Support Dell.

Would there be any potential solutions for this?

Always the first thing is video card driver. It can cause all kinds of problems including everything you mentioned. See if you can find if there is a PTC certified driver for this computer/video card combo, but thats unlikely since the version of creo is older and the laptop is significantly newer. You can try the latest available driver for your video card, I would say that usually solves a lot of problems but sometimes it introduces other issues so you may need to try multiple drivers.

Other solutions is to make sure any custom settings you were using have been set on your new computer.

Sometimes you need to update the chipset driver (mother board driver), I do not know how to do this but our IT tech did it for me in the past when I had a problem and it made a huge difference in performance.

If you are accessing your files differently, such as thru a network connection or thru one drive, those can cause huge performance issues.

There are lot of other potential causes

Exactly. the latest drivers create other issues, and the older ones also have different issues. It seems like it would be better to use a newer Creo version, but it will take more time

@DL_7583327 Specifically if you are unsure if graphic is a significant part of the problem, add the following to your config.pro as a test:

GRAPHICS WIN32_GDI

Its only for testing, restart creo after adding then try opening an assembly and see if it fixes issues. This option disables the graphics card. If some problems go away, it’s likely a driver issue. Remove the option and keep testing drivers until you find the best one, which will be specific to your hardware/software.  If you don’t remove the option, overall creo performance will not be good unless you are working on really simple parts/assemblies.
