Question

What is the current process for moving a WildFire 5.0 Student License to a new host?

Back in 2012 I purchased a WF5.0 Student license. Since it is tied to the network adapter of the computer, I assigned it to a USB NIC so I could move to a new computer without requesting a new license file.

While that did work for a long time, I recently started having problems with that network adapter disconnecting. (I used to remove it when I wasn’t using it to “protect it” and probably damaged a wire.)

As I recall, when I moved the license from the original computer to the USB NIC, there was an email address I need to send my information to.

Is that still the method to make this change, or is there another way to accomplish this task?

If this is the method, can someone provide me the correct email address?

VladimirN,

Thank you for that information.

I’m trying to work through those instructions:

I changed my email address/username because the one used for the purchase was from a mail forwarding service that is no longer in business:(

When I try to upgrade my account using the customer number and sales order number from the original purchase email, it reports that they don’t match???

I’ve sent an email to the globalsupport@ptc.com team explaining my problem. Hopefully they can provide assistance.

anursingh,

Thanks for the follow up.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the license transferred. I was told that I should switch to another “free” modeling solution.

I can currently run the software in a VMWARE virtual machine with a virtual NIC using the MAC address of the broken network adapter. I’m running it using VMWare Workstation 17 Player.

Since the issue with the USB network might be electrical, I’m trying to learn how to repair USB cables so I can try to fix it.

Of course, if I could get the license transferred to a new MAC address, none of this would be needed.

V/r,
