Motor oil bottle design, US / EU standards

Hello Proe Users...

I know there are many experienced engineers and designers using proe out there.
I´m a novel designer, I´ve been asked to design a new motor oil bottle from scratch.

I recognize there are many designs for motor oil bottles, pretty much the imagination is the limit. However I was wondering if there are any ISO, ASTM or other standards that set forth minimum requirements for the design of these bottles. Are there any federal or other govt regulations that need to be met in order to make possible the bottles finally goes into production and goes into the market?

Or pretty much each company sets its own standards?

One of the issues I´m concerned with is that I can create complex and appealing shapes, but will this shapes hold the weight

of other filled bottles stacked one on top of the other??

What about the free fall test? Any environmental issues? safety issues?

I need to somehow address this issues (and others I´m not aware of) in my design.

thank you all, best regards,

al.

The best design would ensure that that first gloop goes into the oil spout and NOT all over the engine.
Of course you've heard about the blonde who asked what the 710 cap was for? Think about it.
well it's Friday!

Don't forget about packaging/shipping. You will not only want them to stack but to fit into the proper size and qty shipping box.

I am not sure what that size or qty is but your local auto parts store could tell you.

Cheers,
