Mathcad License

Mathcad License

Hello,

We have 2 floating licenses for Mathcad Prime 2.0. Three questions:

  • Can we use them for Mathcad Prime 3.1 as well?
  • Do these licenses have an expiration date?
  • How long will the licenses be valid if we keep using Mathcad Prime 2.0?

Thanks.

Regards,

Mihai

Hi Mihai,

If you purchased the license, then

  • No. In this case to use the version 3.1 you will need to purchase an upgrade license.
  • No.
  • They were perpetual. Also, over time, if necessary, you can transfer these licenses to new computers.

        No, I don't think so.

But they allow you to use Mathcad 15, which is far more powerful and richer featured than (any version of) Prime presently available.

Do these licenses have an expiration date?

        No that I know of.

I've never seen an expiration date on Mathcad product licenses.

How long will the licenses be valid if we keep using Mathcad Prime 2.0?

Until their expiration date, I assume.

Success!

No, but if you are still under maintanance you can use  the online license manager/configurator to create a new license file which is then sent to you by mail.

  • Do these licenses have an expiration date?

That depends. Most commercial licenses don't have an expiration date and can be transferred to newer hardware using the online license manager until PTC stops supporting older software versions (like they did with versions like Mathcad 11).

Some versions of flex-licenses are time-limited and have an expiration date though. You can check  by looking at the license file for your flex server. Its a normal text file and can be viewed using any editor/notepad. Search for #ExpirationDate - If you see something like #Expiration Date = 01-JAN-0 then here is no time limit. Otherwise you will see # Expiration Date = 31-dec-2018 or any other valid date.

If the license has an expiration date, the answer should be ovious, otherwise your license is valid endless but when PTC decides to cancel support for your old version you will not be able to create a new license file for a new hardware anymore. In that case you will be able to use the software until you change the vital hardware (thats usually the primary NIC).

Hi,

Q: Can we use them for Mathcad Prime 3.1 as well?

You cannot use your current license file in combination with Mathcad Prime 3.1.

FYI: You can install and run Mathcad Prime 3.1 without any licence for 30-days (full functionality is available). When this period ends then Mathcad Prime 3.1 will switch to Mathcad Prime 3.1 Express version (some functionality is disabled).

Q: Do these licenses have an expiration date?

Commercial license does not have expiration date.

Q:How long will the licenses be valid if we keep using Mathcad Prime 2.0?

Commercial license enables you to use Mathcad Prime 2.0 for ever.
