How to handle Weight as single source of truth in windchill

Version: Windchill 12.0

Use Case: Current situation: Weight is today maintained in our ERP system´s with different entities, and different purposes. Sometime weight includes packing material, and sometimes not. Future Situation: Weight is maintained in Windchill (Single Source of truth) used for Regulatory demands like Full Material Declaration, Calculation of Co2 consumption ect...

Description:

We are interested in figuring out how other companies handles weight in the Windchill system.

How is the technical solution used in Windchill (Out of the box)?

How is the weight entering/change handled? (Workflow processes, lifecycle states ect...)

We have a similar business challenge as we move "weight" from a legacy system.

We have lots of potentially useful "weights" as the product moves through its lifecycle... E.g. Target Mass, CAD Mass, Weighed Mass once parts arrive. These are getting more accurate as the product progresses.

Then you've got the net/gross weight as parts are shipped and also tracking weight changes as components move through a change management workflow.

I'd also be interested in understanding how people handle this.

Hi all,

One of the solutions that I have seen is through ThingWorx Navigate App that juxtapose various Weights from the Digital World (PLM) and Physical World (ERP). This way, the evolution of the weight of the part is easily seen in one app. However, the owner of the physical world weight is ERP and the owner of the digital world Weight is PLM. Minor batch variations and supplier specific variations are well handled in ERP for reporting to ESG data.

While its possible to stack up data in many ways, the owners of respective data should be respected in an IT solution landscape.

Each company has their rich and propreitary ways to manage the weight information.

Cheers

Hari
