Displaying Value on a widget

I want to create a mashup in which I take value from a label, then run a service to manipulate the data and finally display it on another value display widget. But I dont know how to do this.

If anyone has some documentation related to this please share. Also let me know where I can learn about services, services creation using javascript and all its function.
