Edge SDK: Push vs Write

Hello,

I wanted to understand the main difference and use cases for using push properties versus write property when using the Edge C SDK. Aside from the fact that push is used for multiple properties what is the fundamental difference between both? Is push used for periodic writes whereas write is used for sporadic writes? Is there any relationship with the publisher/subscriber model used for MQTT for example?
