I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with users who search for data they do not have access to. When these users do a search, they just assume the data is not there. Is there a way to let the users know that the objects exist, but

You might consider providing READ but not DOWNLOAD for these. This allows for including in search results and seeing the complete Details page but not downloading any files. But - If does not prevent using associated viewable if you are using publishing.
