Question

How can an administrator change the default promotion name?

When a promotion is initiated, (Intralink 9.1) its' default name is derived from one of the promotion objects.
The "template" for the naming is: Name, Number, Version, Date.
Example: 12345.prt, 12345.PRT, C.3, 2011-08-10

Can I change this template so that the default name is only the number & version? (Ex: 12345.PRT, C.3)
Would this be defined in the Object Initialization Rules? if so, how?

Also, I'm trying to figure out how the promotion chooses which object to base the naming upon.
It appears random.
In our case, we would prefer that the the name be based upon the the drawing (if any) in the list of promotion objects.
As a norm, each promotion has one drawing and its' model(s).
But if there's more that one drawing, any one selected is OK. If no drawings, we don't care which object is used.

Any suggestions?

There is no Rename action for Promotion Requests.
A while back I put in a tech support call asking your question below - the response at the time was that it could not be changed.

We did learn by experimenting that the first object selected was mapped to the Name - but not always if multiple objects were selected from Search results.
