How many files in a Windchill Folder are too many?

Team,

What is the number of files that we should allow in a Windchill Folder, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 or even more? I know there is point where performance starts to tank, but I have never really seen it. Does anyone have some thoughts on this?

We have used a value of 50,000 on a Windows Server 2003r2 system for many years and have had no issues.

Gary,

I think you are talking about the files on the server, which I have always used 50,000 on Windows and 100,000 on Unix. I am wondering if there is an issue with the number of files in a folder in a PDMLink container. I know it would be virtually impossible to browse 50,000 entries in a folder in PDMLink, therefore, I am wondering if there is a good rule of thumb.

Regards,

Jim
