Microsoft kills FAST's Linux and Unix search biz

When I heard that Microsoft bought them, I figured this would come. We been running a Sun shop for a while but recently moved this app to Windows. I wonder if PTC will start shopping for a new search engine now.

Tony,

Well, they've got until July of 2018 to move to another engine. That would
be a longer run than Verity and RetrievalWare combined if PTC sticks with
FAST that long.

Antonio,

PTC will use the open source Apache Lucene/Solr with the next version of Windchill and Insight.



Here are some quotes about the technology:

When you say the next release you are talking about R10 or R9.2 (If there
is a 9.2)

We're just starting the planning an upgrade to 9.1 so should I wait if its
happening in the next 3 to 6 months
