OIR using a variable like reference

For some odd reason I swear I recollect a rarely used feature of OIRs to be able to store the output of a OIR algorithm or conditional in a variable-like reference for use further down in the OIRs like for evaluation of applying constraints.

Am I lucid or crazy here?
