Pending change icon (red Delta triangle)

We're using a subtype of Change Request as a "Work Request." Both Change Requests and Work Requests result in the affected data having the standard red Delta triangle icon shown.

Question: Is there a way to change the icon displayed depending on the sub type of Change Request? Note: I know that I've seen demo's at various times in which people have configured different color icons depending on the change request state.
