problem rehosting 10.1

As per the rehost guide I am trying to reinstall Windchill Directory Server.

But when I do I get this error:

"Base load point directory d:\ptc\Windchill_10.1\PSI already exists. Choose another directory that does not already contain an installation. *Base Installation Directory:"

Note: this is an upgraded system from 9.1 m060 to 10.1 m020.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Hi Steven,

Does the directory in question "..\Windchill_10.1\PSI exist? If so, have
you tried renaming or deleting it before attempting the install?

Also, has anyone tried to install Windchill components on this server
before and then cleared them out? Often time, references to previous
install can exist in the Application Data (or AppData) folder for that user
and the OS will think there are existing Windchill components.

Hello,
Where are you trying to install the WDS, it should be on the other machine
where there is no Windchill instance.

Please do the following :-

1) Run PSI to install the WDS use Standalone Option .

2) Check if there is any file, if yes rename it.

<drive>\User Profiles\<user_name>\Application Data\PTC\ Windchill\<instance_id>

Within the <instance_id> is the actual registry file “psi_iir.xml” which
contains information about that instance. There may be some numbered
backups such as “psi_iir.000.xml” as well.
The <instance_id> folder is a computer-generated unique ID, so in order to
identify a particular registry, the psi_iir.xml must be referenced.
When the PSI is executed, the registry is backed up to the following
location:
<base installation=" directory=">/installer/instreg/<instance_id>
where:
<base installation=" directory="> = the base common directory of the installed
products
<instance_id> = the unique string that identifies the registry instance
The base installation directory and its instance_id are added to a master
index file (psi_iir_index.xml) that resides in the old registry location.
When an existing installation is updated to a later maintenance release or
point release, an entry for the installation is created in this file and
the registry for the old release is removed.

FYI, because of permissions we live within on a Unix environment, we
install Apache as a separate run of the PSI. We then rename the folder
to add "_Apache" before doing the rest of the Windchill install. I do
not remember this being an issue with 9.1.

Hi Zack,

It does exist. It did not in 9.1, there the folder is named "installer".

No one has tried to install any components. It is just me.

I did not try deleting or renaming because it does not say to do that in the guide. I am sure it will probably work if I do I just don't know if the "PSI" folder is important or not for the rest of the rehosting process.

Hi Steve,

It appears the problem you're running into is that the PSI sees the \PSI
folder and thinks there is an existing install. Was this folder copied over
as part of the rehost process or created by a previous run of the PSI?

Either way, it would be best to rename the folder for now, run the PSI to
install WindchillDS and, if desired, copy/paste the contents of the old
\PSI folder. I suggest the last part (copy/paste contents) because this may
help the PSI function properly later down the line.

Also, if possible, try to retrieve any files from the location (varies per
system):
C:\Users\<windchill_install_user>\AppData\<roaming>\PTC\...
This will help the PSI to identify what has been installed on the server.

It's important to take the PTC guides with a grain of salt. They can be
excellent reference material but will not always have the exact
step-by-step process needed to achieve the desired result.

Hi Zack,

I am just giving PTC a little more time to figure this out then I will rename the folder and "see what happens".

I did copy the installer files from the "Users" are as per the guide.

I have done this many times before in 9.1 but this is my first attempt in 10.1.

If PTC comes up with any "revelation" I will post it.
