Problem with Date Attribute Default Value Display

Does anybody know a way to add a date attribute as a soft type with a default blank value? The value defaults to today's date, which is not desired since we would like to use these attributes as-forward looking dates.

The only other option we have found is a System Preference called 'Default Value Display Mode' under 'Attributes' section of Site > Utilities > Preference Manager. However, setting this Preference to "Do Not Display" would set all the Attribute Text Boxes, to display a 'Drop Down Text Box' with a blank value as default. Regarding the Default Value for Date Attribute in Type And Attribute Manager, it is not possible to keep a blank value in the beginning.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Edit AllClients.xml under <wt-home>/codebase/config/logicrepository/xml/

This is discussed a little bit in either the customizer's guide or business
admin guide. If you search PTC.com or this site for previous postings, they
can provide you more guidance. Essentially, it involves adding an entry for
custom attribute.
