Running PDMLink 10.1 M020 and Oracle on Separate

We have our PDMLink and Oracle running on separate servers, and need to have the PDMLink server configured for SSL. Do we also need to set up the Oracle server for SSL? I worry about the PDMLink server making calls to a non-https box. Are the Oracle calls encrypted?
