System Slowdown After Multiple Create Documents

We currently have a user tasked to move our engine testing data from a network share into our PDMLink 9.1 system. The process involves recreating the share's folder structure, zipping up the all of the data in that folder into a single file, creating a new document, and attaching the zip file to the document. The zip files range in size from several megs to several gigs. After doing this process several times, the response time with the browser(IE or Firefox) slows to a crawl, and the user must shutdown the browser and start again. This slowdown occurs on any machine attempted. We are using Java 6 version 20/21. I realize it is seldom that a user just sits down a does the Create Document function over and over, so maybe there is some problem with cache clearing. Just wondering if anyone else wandering in PTCland has experienced this.

As a first step, you may want to clear both your local browser, and java caches occasionally during the process.

If you are trying to replicate a folder structure have you tried using the "Upload Documents from Compressed File" action? It allows you to zip a folder structure (save path) and import the resulting zip into PDMLink/ProjectLink. The import process extracts the folder structure and documents from the zip file,replicating in PDMLink. The only drawback to this process is that you have to define one document type that applies to all documents in thezip (and similarly, can not independentlyset attribute values and description fields, etc.). But is sounds like a much more effective methodology than the one you are currently using (at least based on your description).

If you wantto be able to create more accurate information around the documents, then you should consider a bulk load or even a third-party tool that is purpose built for loading a lot of data (structured and unstructured) from a file system.
