Would you recommend Windchill 10.0?

I'm currently using Windchill 9.1 and no one here is happy with it. For those of you who have tried 10.0, are you happy with it? Would you recommend it to friends?

Like I said, 10 is better than 9.1, if nothing else because we "sort of" have frames back again (with a LOT less functionality and ease of use) and the ability to finally drag column width, but everything you hate about 9.1, well for the most part it's still there.

I LOVED Intralink 3.4. For by far the most part, it was a GREAT, easy to use, powerful, reliable, competent system that did everything we ever needed. I'm a big believer of not fixing it if it ain't broken.

What are users unhappy about in 9.1?

It's slow for one. I see that hour glass way too much. The ProE users just think it's too difficult to work with. They currently have trouble checking in, especially those that don't check in and update daily. Also, making a "quick" change is never quick anymore. There are too many steps and waiting between steps. Just refreshing the workspace is time consuming.

Going from 9.1 to 10.0 will only marginally affect system performance. May be that the server is underpowered, but most likely the database (e.g. Oracle) does not have enough memory or is not tuned to use it. Our time to complete a standard Pro/E-based set of actions reduced by almost 75% a few years back after getting help on the database.

I will say 10 is a little better than 9.1......but that's like saying I'd imagine a cool glass of donkey urine tastes better than a warm one.........

One thing I have learned since we migrated over is that people migrating from Ilink 3.4 M062 system should complete a thorough evaluation of their LAN and WAN network topology and speeds. We are having a rough time right now with an engineering consulting center in India due to the change in the traffic to http protocol. It seems that the data has grown due to the different architecture between the two systems. We are considering using Riverbed WAAS or something similar to help with the WAN issues. Wish bandwidth was cheaper in India, but that is just not the way it is like here in the US. Again, do a complete IT network topology analysis before you even consider migration. I thought our global network was fairly good and speedy until Windchill 10 came along. In addition, now PTC is pushing the new PTC Windchill Peformance monitor which is a whole other system that I believe is another bandwidth hog like Windchill. Still investigating this. Will let all know about this. It is a cool looking monitoring tool that will monitor just about everything in Windchill, but there has to be some drawbacks as well which PTC would never really admit to.
