Does anyone have experience with importing or dealing with gerber (.gtl) files?

I am trying to do a 3D model from details in a gerber file but am struggling for the best way to do this?

Not sure that is possible.

From my experience, Gerber files are 2D plot files with XY coordinates instructions and codes for Pen Up and Pen Down.

From Wikipedia:

The Gerber format is an open ASCII vector format for 2D binary images. It is the de facto standard used by printed circuit board (PCB) industry software to describe the printed circuit board images: copper layers, solder mask, legend, etc.[
