Using parameters to replace assembly component

I would like to replace a component in my assembly based on a defined parameter value.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

For example:

If ASM_PAR = A

component x = part_inst_1

If ASM_PAR = B

component x = part_inst_2

I know I can achieve something similar with a family table but a family table is not suitable for my application.
