We currently use Model Manager 19.0. What can I expect if we go to Windchill?

We currently are using Model Manager.  We have used Model Manager for years. It has a simple interface, parts can easily be found and we are used to it.

 

Management is encouraging us to move to WindChill. 

 

What experience have other users had with WindChill?

 

What functionality can I expect?

 

Will I lose functionality?

 

Will parts and assemblies still load the same with the same icons for reserved and unreserved as model manger?

 

Will the BOM Module still work?

Hello Tom,

PTC is still working on a migration tool to migrate Model Manager to Windchill.

We have already some customers that are using the standard integration between Modeling and Windchill.

The mean driver for moving to Windchill should be the gain of functionality on the Windchill side, but you won't have to search it in the pure Data Management area.

You can define more complex workflows, define more complex access rights, integrate more applications (not only Modeling, but also other vendor applications, ...), have free distributed file servers, ...

If you don't need all of those things or many more, or you have to migrate data from your old Model Manager database to Windchill, you won't gain a lot by moving to Windchill.

The interface is evolving a lot, in Windchill 11 you will have the icons reserve/unreserve, in Windchill 10.2 this not the case yet.

The "BOM Module" is standard Windchill functionality, and since Windchill 11 you should be able to put a BOM on the drawing.
