Why does the option "Create new..." at drawing sections not work?

I use educational edition of Creo 3.0. I ran into this problem several times but I've always found another way to do what I wanted, so I just moved on and forgot about it. 

As I'm working on a smaller project right now, I wonder what's the problem with this option. As starting with the screenshoted option, I just stuck there and the program does not seem to react to anything I do. Sometimes it directs me to the model where I should choose a plane, but then it either doesn't perceive my selection or it does, but still nothing happens. As I never managed to make a section through a chosen plane and I might need this in the future, I ask for some advice here.
