Hello,We would like to use the arbortext change tracking markup information to generate various output in our publishing system. We had noticed that <atict> does not append tags when edits are made again in the same location by the same user in different time. Here is the example:I typed this lineThis is the first lineXML Code in Arbortext with change tracking on is:<atict:add user="kkumar" time="1264610729">This is the first line</atict:add>I closed the xml file and open it again and added (this is my second line) like belowThis is the first line This is my second lineNow the xml is change like<atict:add user="kkumar" time="1264610729">This is the first line This is my second line</atict:add>I want this to be marked up differently even though it is same user but it is different time stamp. Is this something that I can change any preferences of settings in Arbortext? Or do I need to have a custome code? Thanks is advance for the help.Karthik
I give up!I have an element that seems to be spanning the two columns when I don't want it to span. I have span=2 on this element and it's parent element. I have balance set to off. Is there another tag that causes something to break across the two columns?I have tried every combination that I can think of.Thanks,Ellen
Hi,I'm trying to change the definition of a named color (occasionally referredto as a "predefined color"). Is this possible?I know I can change fontcolorgray1 but I don't think I can change gray1which is what I need to do. (Well, *want* to do. I can change the XML butI'd save a lot of time and effort if I could simply re-map gray1 to anothercolor.)-- Paul Nagai
Can I display a non-table on the screen?Arbortext FOSI Reference PDF talks about translating non-table data into an informal table (page 120 - and the example runs off the page).I can turn on gen text tags and the tags look great. Turn the tags off and I get the data I want, one row per line as
, one entry per line as <informaltable>. Mo tags, but just all squished to the left - no table columns.I get the feeling I just spent a few hours figuring out something else FOSI won't actually display on the screen. Here's the table source:<usetext source="!<table frame="all" id="temptable001" orient="port"><tgroup cols="10"><thead></thead><br /><colspec colname="col1"><colspec colname="col2"><colspec colname="col3"><colspec colname="col4"><colspec colname="col5"><br /><colspec colname="col6"><colspec
I've been customizing Arbortext Editor for clients for over 6 years now and I've never been able to figure this out.We have several custom toolbars. I understand that toolbar location config info is saved automatically by Arbortext on close to a wcf file. However, there are times when those settings aren't remembered the next time an editing session is started. I could live with this. The more annoying problem is when a user opens Editor and the toolbars are fine (where he set them the last session), but then he opens a 2nd document (both the same doctype) and the toolbars are off. As in a toolbar that should be aligned to the left now begins about mid-window, pushing any other toolbars on that toolbar row even further right. Sometimes a toolbar will be kicked off to a row by itself. Am I missing something? Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the toolbars in the locations the user sets them?Thanks,-- Brian Jensenbjensen@bluelid.com
Hi All,I need to know something but first a little background. My company bought ArborText in late 2008. In November 2009 I stopped all of my regular work to start learning Arbortext because my boss wanted to see if I can implement the solution...totally. I've been working through some proof of concepts pretty successfuly up until now and I'm still searching for a way to make my next proof of concept work. I've also been talking with an outside vendor to get us up and running quicker. I do know how to use Arbortext to a point. You also need to know that we are a two person shop.I am more than conversant with HTML and CSS. I understand XML and DTDs to a point and style sheets for XML a bit. I've been a software tech writer for a gazillion years.I've seen different XMLimplementations, usually Framemaker, and the results but those implementations were completed at large companiesby outside vendors working with the publications staff. Here's my question. Does anyone know of a medium-sized c
I'm starting to test Arbortext 5.4 M020, and I consistently get a"Arbortext Editor Debug Messages" window that pops up when I openArbortext that states, "Warning: Could not find the application's symbolfont. It will not be possible to display certain symbols and icons." I haven't found anything on the web or in the help files to resolve thisissue, nor have a found a way to suppress the message. If anyone has anidea of how to fix the problem, please share. Thanks!
I searched the knowledge base and the only resolution I found applies to Unix. How do I fix this error on Windows XP?
I'm trying to get gentext in Editor to pop up Item Numbers that are xref'd in different documents.PTC's FOSI manual says external xrefs are only supported in ACL, but I can't find any data about that in the ACL manuals. Can someone help me get started here? I do have the filename (minus the ".xml") as an attribute in the xref if that helps.<xref itemid="ExMRS00004-87" posttext=")" pretext="(" wpid="S00004-9-2355-319"/"> It would also be extremely helpful if I could throw a warning that the work package referenced (wpid) does not exist. With wpid's that complicated, I'm seeing lots of typos that don't get found until the work package is inserted into the full manual and the xrefs can be updated with real data...which is really a bit late as writers aren't allowed to do that themselves. Thanks again!John T. I'm trying to change the default behavior of a couple of toolbar buttons and the matching menu items. One of them change markup.I'm able to get the menu item to call the alias I want by using the menu_change command. The problem is getting the toolbar button to call my alias. I tried usingmap Toolbar_ChangeMarkup ChangeMarkupWithProtectionbut it doesn't work. I ended up copying the xui editwindow.xml file to my custom directory and changing the cmd attribute to point to my alias, but doing so has caused the icon on the menu items (menu bar and pop up) to not be displayed. Both the toolbar button and the menu items all point to the same alias. Any ideas why the map command isn't working for the toolbar button, or if there is a better way to do this?Thanks,-- Brian Jensenbjensen@bluelid.com
Anyone have experience attempting to share the same Styler .stylestylesheet with documents using different doctypes. The root documentelement is the same across all XML instances; however, the actual schemareferenced in xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation is different (subset of sameumbrella spec). Despite explicitly declaring the doctype = root documentelement, Arbortext insists that the doctype = XSD file inxsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation attribute. To wit: using stylesheet association in both documents: type="text/x-styler" media="editor" alternate="yes"?> and doctype declaration in both documents, ]> and one document's root element, <doctype
xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="xmlns:xsi="xmlns:rdf="
I was reading that FOSI is supposed to be able to catch "I was wondering if the FOSI engine will catch Arbortext PIs for screen rendering.Something like this to make it obvious in the editor window that a page break has been inserted:<e-i-c gi="_newpage" gitype="PI"><charlist><usetext source="\" ---------=" page=" break=" --------\"=" placemnt="after"></usetext></charlist></e-i-c>I assume pagination in general is print-only? Is there a wiki sponsored by PTC or PTC/USER?If neither chime in to identify or start one, would people beinterested -- I could host a site.Basically, I'm often dancing on the fringe of certain technologicalborders and keep thinking that sharing the information, to the extentI am permitted, in a collaborative medium such as a wiki wouldbe desirable. If you are not familiar with wiki technology, please see:
Greetings Adepters,We have an ACL which is exhibiting some strange behavior (to us, anyway). Here's a code snippet:# Make sure the original element can be removed, i.e., it's not a required elementoid_select(obj, 0, 1, 1);if(cut_valid()==0){ undo; response("This element cannot have its context swapped because it is a required element. You may be able to insert the context counterpart for this element."); return;}# Remove the existing elementoid_delete(obj);response("deleted");# See if the "new" element can be inserted hereif(in_context(newElem)==0){ response("The element " . newElem . " can not be created here because it will invalidate the document."); undo; return;}insert_string -sgml "$xformresult";****END SNIPPET****This code works fine as is, but if you comment out the 'response("deleted");' it fails by somehow determining that the new element cannot be inserted here, even though it is valid, per the DTD.We tried a "wait" command in place of the response, but that doesn't seem to h
Has anyone seen this error and can you point me in the right direction to resolve it. I can't find anything in the help files that deal with this. If I open the document up in SGML Source, there is no entity file that is preventing up from deleing a row in a table. We can add rows above or below this particular row in the table and delete it just fine, it is just this particular row that we get this error message on. I was just checking my 5.4 installation tree (now under PTC instead of Arbortext) and I noticed that the docs directory is no longer there and there is only one MS help file? Looks like maybe the install options have changed or maybe these are no longer shipped? Mainly I ws trying to find the release notes and can't find anything at the top or in a top level directory. I'm now on the support site for the release notes, but I'm surprised this isn't part of the install tree...dan
I work with a pubs org that uses a variety of tools to author with. I've got several folks that insist on using Word, who will then cuss and complain when it breaks and they can't do something or it blows up on them. I'm wondering if anyone has used OpenOffice for a moderatly complex document and what your experience has been. Did they copy all of Words warts or does it really provide some of the long document functionality like multiple files and cross references? Have you tried bringing the XML from OpenOffice into Editor? Is the XML reasonable to work with? What I'm thinking is that I want to try and salvage this Word document by at the appropriate time taking it into Editor, or at least allow me to make repairs in Editor but allow them to work in Word. ..dan --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Danny Vint Specializing in Panoramic Images
Hello,I was searching for some information and thought I saw something about changing the starting tags for a new XML document so that I don't always have to start with <book> tags. Here's my thinking. I've created three small files. Each file has a table of contents. I want to combine the files like the chaptersin a book and display a combined table of contents in addition to the TOC in each file. My first problem is to combine the files but I can't insert book files into a book file and that makes sense. So my thought was to change the start tag to a <chapter> tag.Now I don't remember where I saw those directions. For that matter, I'm not sure whether I saw it in the help files or somewhere on the Internet. Is that possible or did I dream it?Ginger
I am working on a macro to apply a "Proof" mark to an Iso file before being made into a PDF. I have the coding done up to the point of changing the text to a 25% grey fill. Perhaps I've been looking at this too long, but I can't find anything to change the font color by macro. When you record a macro, the selection for changing fill is greyed out. I then tried converting to paths and looping through elements, but still could not get the color to change. Any suggestions?
Is there any tool for drawing text boxes that have outlines? Thanks in advance
I am looking for an ACL function that will do what the VB function instr() does, which searches one string to see if it contains another string; e.g., to see if "to" is in "Benton" (it is!).Anyone?
I've now dug through 17 PTC PDF manuals.Where in the world is an honest to goodness error log?It is bad enough the composer log window when it does give the line of the stylesheet where it hit an error, it doesn't tell you which XML file it was parsing at the time. I've got those cleaned up now BUT!I still have a multitude of errors that are just too vague to be useful (like "received fo:block when expected fo:root" with no code context at all).I've dug through the transaction archives file by file. I still don't know what to do with a .dat file even with all the PDF manuals.Shoot, I can't even get our Windows 2003 Server to show the Java Console! Finally get through IT and get some access to the server, but I still can't find a decent error log. Thanks again, guys...John T. I found a great thread here on scripting making a flat file which I plan to use to back up the doc as it grows to 3000 chapters - yesterday two of those chapters emptied themselves at 10:05 am - declarations at the top and dozens of pages just gone.My Question:I've created a simple instance.acl but can't get it to load and need help on where to put it:message "production/instance.acl found and read";if (! menu_exists ("BAE")) { menu_add -menu .Help "BAE"; menu_add .BAE. "Flatten This Doc" -cmd {flatten_this_doc();}; menu_add .BAE. " -separator; menu_add .BAE. "Rewrite Entity Declarations" -cmd {set writeentdecls=roottreerefchildnone; save_all_docs;};}It is in \custom\doctypes\production\instance.acl. I also tried \custom\doctypes\production.acl with the same results. Our doctype declaration:I've read your posts and the ACL Guide and understand where to put it, but not what to name the directory I guess. I've tried /xml/ and no luck. The PE itself uses /custom/doctypes/Production so I t
I'm off the standard JVM when running Editor 5.3. A work-around has been proposed at:machine, as defined by the Java Language Specification."I'm wondering what needs to be done to make the sample program below work.To
