I have been trying to set up a constrained minimization problem parametrically, so it behaves rather like a function. From reading previous discussions, I understand that solve blocks cannot be placed in programs. However, the Quicksheet on Constrained Nonlinear Optimization shows that it's possible to parameterize some parts of an optimization, specifically, (1) the guess values, and (2) additional parameters of the objective function that are not involved in the optimization. I've attached the Quicksheet with those two items highlighted. BUT... is it possible to parameterize the constraints? For example, the values 2 and 9 in the Quicksheet's constraints. Ideally, one would write a program containing the solve block, but that's not supported. Any workaround? Thanks in advance to any of you who can shed light on this. Hi there.I'm trying to find the time, where the my function reaches its maximum value. But due to a local minimum in the beginning, mathcad is only giving me this value.How can I get mathcad to give me the other value as well? I've tried defining t to be after the minimum, but it just gives me a lot of the same, first, value.I really hope somebody in here, is a bit smarter than I! 🙂Have a great day,Ben

Hello folks,I'm trying to solve the Bessel equation that arises from the heat transfer equation of a straight triangulat fin. I know the analytical solution, but need to calculate the numerical solution for comparison purposes.At the tip of the fin we know that dT/dx=0 and that at the base T(x)=Tb. I've tried using odesolve but it cannot solve the equation, so I'm thinking that odesolve is not the right solver, but do not know which one I should use. In this case, I placed the origin at the tip of the fin to simplify the differential equation.Please take a look at the attached file for additional detailsAny suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

Hello,I'm trying to solve an ode in Mathcad Prime 3.0 using odesolve. I know the analytical solution (which I used to calculate the "initial" condition since the actual problem has a Neumann BC @ x=0 and I believe that for second order ode's we cannot use a Neumann bc as the "initial" condition).The problem I'm having is that Mathcad says that the units are not compatible. However, I have triple checked the units and they are correct.Please take a look at the worksheet attached and let me know your thoughts/comments/suggestions.Thanks!

I am solving two equations in two unknowns. One is linear so I can just solve it, substitute into the other (nonlinear) equation, and use the root function to get the result. This works fine as illustrated in the attached worksheet. But when I try to use a solve block to find both unknowns, I get an error. I am sure I am doing something stupid but I cannot see what it is.

Hi,I am working on a inductor/transformer design. I did a sheet with one calculation I am happy with. I did a copy of it, and pasted it just below. I would have assumed all variables would be reaffected, and it would all work well.Except it didn't. With the exact same input, copied below, one of the result is wrong (and quite obviously, since the unit is all messed up).Se attached document : in the first calculation, Bmax = 0.402T ; in the second, Bmax = 0.013 m T / A. Again, it is just a "brutal" copy and paste ...Thanks

I'm getting a "this variable is undefined". I don't know why...It's Mathcad 15..probably something simple I'm overlooking, but I don't see it!Hope someone can point it out, and I will happily say "D'Oh!"

I am evaluating Mathcad Prime 3.0 to upgrade our Mathcad 15, and I am noticing a difference in the math inputs.I tried to define the math below and after entering number 6, I press the spacebar TWO times to get the entire line underlined with the blue line. Once all the numbers are underlined, I can just press "Shift" + "F" and the letter F gets appended to the end.This behavior is different in Mathcad Prime 3.0. After entering the number 6, I press the space bar THREE times to get the entire item selected. However, when pressing "Shift" + "F" to insert the unit Farad (F), the entire item is DELETED instead. The old behavior was more intuitive because I have learned from Mathcad that any item under the blue line gets concatentated to the next operation. In fact, I must prefer the blue line more than the gray highlight. The blue line is easier to see.The only way to insert the "F" is to press the right arrow on the keyboard to the right so that F can be inserted. Again, the old method w

I am using a 30-day trial of Mathcad Prime 3.0 to compare with Mathcad 15. Right away, I am having issues with displaying units on the calculated results.Mathcad 15 is shown below where I inserted in the "nJ" so that I see the more convenient units.Here, the same math is written in Mathcad Prime 3.0, but I get an error when I tried to type in nJ. I have tried many methods, but I can't get it to show nJ for some reasons. How do I get it to show nJ instead? I use this feature heavily, so being unable to show nJ (or any other units of choice) is a showstopper.

I have been using MathCAD 14 for several years and it does an excellant job for me. I don't make any complex calculations, just simple algebra. I just got a new computer and I installed my MathCAD14 license on it and it works fine. That was much easier than the previous times I had to do that.Now I have a problem with some of my existing files. I get this error message. I still have the old computer with MathCAD and I can open these files fine with the old (but same version) of MathCAD 14. I have tried opening them againg and resaving them, moving them from the network to my local computer and also saving them in older MathCAD version i.e 13 12 and 11. Nothing works.Is there a way around this?Eldon

Hello folks,I'm trying to learn how to specify Neumann boundary conditions using numol to solve a PDE.As you may be aware, Prime 3.0 does not feature Pdesolve so if we want to solve a PDE, we need to use either numol, relax or multigrid.I'm using a rather simple example of Pdesolve in which we have a flat plate perfectly insulated at x=0 and with convection at x=L. Now, the problem I'm having is that I cannot decipher how to express these boundaries conditions when using numol.If someone knows how to do this, please solve the problem in the attached file using numol and post the solution in the reply.Thanks a lot for you help!P.S.: I saved the file in Mathcad 11 format so that a bigger audience may be able to open it and contribute. Where is all legacy Mathcad stuff ( Electronic Books, free Add-ons for Mathcad 8, 2000, 2001, 2001i) ?Much of it was/is loadable even by newer and current Mathcad editions !I did not find anything here, also Google does not find anything special if I look for "Mathcad Electronics Books".Btw, I am still using Mathcad2001i - no software activation, enough math power -, for my own internal development purpuses. It runs well on W2k and WinXP.If an employer or project owner asks me to do something with Mathcad, I expect a current version of course :-), thats the business.With the newer Mathcad versions, it is still possible to save in the Mathcad 2001i format (but not in Mathcad 2001 format, or older ) :-).SincerelyRolf
