Hello everybody,
does someone have news about MathCad Prime 6?
Some timesheet?
MCP5 has introduced too few improvements so I think PTC intends release new version soon. Or not?...

Thanks
Bye

The history (over the past 10 years) shows that PTC promises more than it actually delivers.

I should not expect that, because Prime 4 to 5 is such a small step, a Prime 6 is due out soon.

And about PTC's intentions: one can only guess.

If you are a licensed Prime user you should be able to access more information on plans, timelines etc.

Success!

I didn't know that you can saw the product calendar... I see there isn't nothing scheduled for Mathcad...whereas for other products there is the calendarization.

E.g: for Creo it's planned the 6th release on the end of the winter.

PTC's plan is to do 1 release a year, in time with the release of their other major products such as Creo and Windchill.  So, sometime in the spring.

All I know about 6.0 is that it's supposed to add pulldown menus.  A nice feature, but not one that should take years to implement.

How they plan to catch up by doing one release a year is beyond me.  I don't think they realize that software is supposed to be a fast evolving field.

Cynically, the question is pointless. It doesn't matter when MC prime 6 will be rolled out since I do not expect Prime to exceed Mathcad 15s capabilities any time soon. Judging from their past record certainly not before prime 10.

Prime 10 - I take it you are being optimistic? 🙂

According to the PTC's product calendar, there are no exact dates for this release yet.

Hi Vladimir,

This only shows that Prime 6 is not even being planned. So far there is 5.0.0.0, then there will be 5.0.0.1, then 5.0.0.2, then 5.0.0.3 and it may take forever this way. I don't know how long are you planning to live, but chances are that you will never see 6.0.0.0. Mind you, SMath is still at 0.99.something-something 🙂

Given the track record of PTC, chances are higher that they will bring out 6.0.0.0 as next release, being a small change with respect to 5.0.0.0, than that they will bring out 5.0.0.1.

It looks like the roadmap for Prime ends at 5.0

https://community.ptc.com/t5/PTC-Mathcad/PTC-Mathcad-Prime-Roadmap-2015-2016-update/td-p/446448

I think the naming convention for Prime might have changed also because now it is explicitly 5.0.0.0 indicating to me that they are only going to be doing the most minimal of chipping away at the software for a very long time!

As evident by the lingering disparity in functionality between Mathcad 15 and Prime, PTC is not really trying to supersede any previous rendition of engineering calculation software's functionality but instead just make it look like they are, perhaps to investors, via incrementing version numbers and look. I fully expect a third Mathcad product to succeed both 15 and Prime, likely an online version, starting over at square one again, before Prime matches 15...

Mark my words...

Many users of this forum suspected as much; massive lack of interest on PTC's side to deliver any substantial improvements beyond what prime 2 offered.
There was an entry by a member of the technical advisory team (can't recall who that was) who wrote that their advice (to keep Mathcad 15 functionality and improve GUI etc.) was mostly ignored. It seemed as if PTC was determined to skin MC15 since they thought that only a "Mathcad light" was needed or desired. On that they did deliver: it is rather light but not Mathcad.

For my work, pressure vessel calculations, thermal calculations and measurement data evaluation, mathcad Prime is useless. I'll stick to MC15 as long as possible.

You're absolutely right - I think like you - I hope Mathcad 15 will live 10-15 years from now ... I have no alternative...

I write this post humorously but out of anger ...

I've been using MATHCAD since version 1.0 and I have hundreds of important files that obviously can't be converted to useless MATHCAD PRIME.

I have already decided that I am working with 15 for the next twenty years, and if the operating system in the future does not fit it, then I will assign a special computer with a last working operating system that still working with MATHCAD 15 .Strange … when a new version of PRIME is released I don't even bother myself to check if it usefull to me or not...

PTC  can give up with the failed attempts to allow the migration of files to PRIME ... In any case, no one wants to immigrate ...

I have a Proposal to PTC sales department - in order to increase sales of MATHCAD PRIME  ...

Instead of continuing to develop MATHCAD PRIME, which in any case is not progressing ... and the main changing is Increase in the version number … Especially since it does not seem to reach MATHCAD 15 capabilities in the next few years.

Stop the "development" of MATHCAD PRIME  and change the marketing policy so that: A customer will get free useful MATHCAD 15 if he buy 3 separate licenses of MATHCAD PRIME.

That is the only way to increase the sales of MATHCAD PRIME.

It is desirable that PTC will understand that customers' anger because of MATHCAD PRIME does not add sympathy to PTC and also undermines trust given to other PTC products. It's reflect to other product of PTC . Out of anger I'll never buy PTC products except MATHCAD 15 .

I pray that 15 lives forever….

SHEMY.

The only criticisim I really feel that is warranetd against prime is the fact that a lot of people have legacy sheets that they need to update. Other than that, technology moves on, operating systems move on. We all have to get used to new tehcnology and in my opinion I much much prefer prime to V15. Its far more pleasant to work with and the quality of the document produced is far better.

I see this as the same issue facing most people with new software. Take Catia for instance, going form V4 to V5 to V6 was a massive undertaking but you cannot expect to use spftware and data files almost 20 years old. Each of those versions was a completly new engine and GUI.

PTC have provided a batch convertor to convert old files. Maybe try it, the pace of developemen of prime is lackign and part of the subscription approach i udnrstand was that there would be yearly updates. This is not happening. Prime 6 was supposed to be released yesterday....

I'm an exclusively prime user, but I can't agree that's legacy sheets are the only warranted criticism.  They've had almost 10 years with prime and haven't even fixed some basic gui issues.  When you own the source code to a functioning version, making the update equally capable shouldn't take 10 years.  Almost all of it could be outsourced.  It's just  not a priority to PTC, although it should really be the backbone of their whole Model-Based Enterprise system.  The 'improvements' in each release are negligible and never fixing the real issues.  Ok, improved graphs was needed but if you take away unit awareness what was the point?   How did that ever get past the first design review?  We're on version 5 and my screen still jumps all over the place.  Typing programs gets slow if you go past 20 lines.  Fonts change on me.  Snap changes size.  Collapsible areas rearrange themselves.  It's slow.  Many other little bugs (thankfully very few wrong calculations).  Their management and execution of this program has to get a failing grade.

Matlab tells me they have 1100(!) developers working.  Mathcad has maybe 1.  Who's going to win this race?  A new version was due yesterday and other than this forum is there any news anywhere on it?
