I posted this a few days ago in the WIndchill Solution area however no one provided an answer to my question. I am hoping someone in this forum may know the answer. If auser opens a Pro/Engineer file in Winchill using via a standalone browser and Pro/Engineer is not already open, Pro/Engineer is started without all of our typical customizations. How do I correct this?P.S. We are on Windchill 9.0.TIA,Mark Bohannon

Hi, Recently IT installed a new proxy server (ISA) and now I am havingproblems downloading software with PTC's Download manager. The donwload manager just gives an Error (it probably can't reach theesd.ptc.com server).Downloading with the HTTP link isn't a problem. We are trying to pinpoint the problem, but can't really track it down. PTC's Knowledge base and the mailarchives couldn't help us either. * Has anybody experienced problems with PTC's Download Manager andwas able to solve it? If so, how did you solve it? * Does anybody know what port(s) the download manager is using? how can i work from home? are there any job opportunities?
With WF4 we gained the addition of tapered threaded holes such as NPT. I am questioning the clarity of the thread note that Pro/Engineer is creating for these holes. Take a 1/8-17NPT hole for example for which I have attached a screen shot of the hole note. Notice the hole note is calling out this: "Q" DRILL (0.344)The "Q" drill is correct ,according to Machinery's Handbook 27th edition, however a "Q" drill is NOT 0.344 it is 0.332. I have opened a call with PTC on this and what I am getting back is this: "For tapped hole, the NUMBER_SIZE is mapped to TAP_DR and DIAMETER is mapped to MINOR_DIAM_START of the hole file."To me the taper thread hole notes are very confusing and could easily lead to using the incorrect drill size. So my question to all you tapered threaded hole creators out there is this. Should the hole note read like this (the PTC way):"Q" DRILL (0.344)or should it read like this (with the "Q" and the 0.332 in sync)"Q" DRILL (0.332) Thanks
Does Pro E have the capability of Dynamic sectioning like Catia V5 in video link below? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HQeTeQjiVE
Wow - thanks for the many replies... all of them are shown below but here's a short summary:21 replies12 ENG managed3 IT managed6 mix of ENG & ITAlso, it seems that the greater the number of users then the more likely IT takes over the CAD apps. Thanks again everyone.-TerORIGINAL POST:=============Question: Does your company rely exclusively on the IT department to admin CAD software, especially ProE?If so, how many ProE users are managed?REPLIES
Hello folks, does anyone have experience using a software called Rhino 3D ?what are the differences between proe (wf. 3 or 4) vs Rhino 3D? Is there an advantage in using both?I´m a big proe fan, but I have been asked to make a fair comparison.thanks, regardsAl.
is there a way to add a knurling finish to a model?
Is it possible, when using Wildfire 4 or 5, to save a file in a format that is compatible with version 3.0? Please be aware when responding... I am the Network Administrator. I do not use the software, and have very little knowledge of it's functionallity.
I probably sound romantic but who cares someone has to do it!! Ptc has hundreds of partners and thousands of customers, should Ptc invest in such a service? To find a job advertised speccially in Europe you have to dig all over the web!!! Times to come are very hard and Ptc is losing the game (see NX SolidWorks Catia they are miles ahead). Did they learn from the ComputerVision Cadds5? They bought them out!!! For every software company its power are the users and PTC thinks like Microsoft but there is a difference IS NOT MICROSOFT. I hope these words will put some thoughts!!!
in the insert menu, there is a pick called independent geometry. what does it do?
Hi,Just updated to wildfire 3.0 M220 and Pro/E will not do a "Save As" ProductView. M110 worked fine.Pro/E complains:"Cannot write to this location.ProductView recipe file not found"The \apps\prodview\recipie folder is intact, not sure what Pro/E is looking forPTC called me in the required 2hour time frame so we could start playing phone tag.....Andrew AmsdenCAD\PDM AdministratorMidmark Corporation937-526-8770
I have been using Pro/E for about 9 years now. I also use Solid Works as well. I work in a shop where we use bend deductions to calculate flat patterns. In Solid Works, you have the option to enter a bend deduction for any bend no matter what radius it is modeled in. In Pro/E I have to manipulate the "y" factor to get the bend deduction that I want it to come out to. That works okay but why not have the option in Pro/E to enter a bend deduction on any bend without having to change the modeled bend radius. We get Pro/E models from some of our customers and it is a pain to have to manipulate the "Y" factors and bend radius to get it to come out to what we need. It just would be nice if Pro/E had a bend deduction option.

I've created a UDF containing a couple of sketches that all haveparticular line styles (line font and color). When I place the UDF, thesketches are created but none of the line styles are consistent withwhat I had when I created the UDF. Is it possible to get a UDF tomaintain the line styles of the original features it was created from? Thanks,Tyler SmithCooper Tire & Rubber Company2025 Production Dr.Findlay, OH 45840419.427.4966 phone419.427.4907 faxPlease consider the environment before printing this email.
Hi all,I was just wondering if anybody has used FloEFD from Mentor Graphics fairly recently? Does the integration with Pro/E work OK? How is the meshing? How tight do the models have to be? How is the ease-of-use? Does it do well with electronics cooling, such as in a computer/server box?Anybody compare it with CFDesign from Blue Ridge? Thanks a bunch! I work with industrial designers and one thing I am constantly asked is to view the model in perspective. ProE allows this, but there are some incredibly annoying constraints. Instead of just having a perspective button, you have to set up the view and the camera often snaps way in so you can't see anything until you zoom back out. When you pan, zoom, or rotate, an annoying little eye appears in the screen. If you rotate around too much, the camera view becomes distorted and you have to go back to orthographic, then set up perspective again. If you use any other functions, the view snaps out of perspective and back to orthographic. Every other CAD software I have used allows you to set the view to perspective and leave it that way. This gives me a better idea of form in my models and is the way I would prefer to work. Is there a way to set up ProE to always be in perspective mode without all the annoying quirks listed above?
Since we upgraded to WF 4, it appears that dimmed tangent lines are not looking as expected....In "wireframe mode", they look dimmed. In "no hidden" mode, they look like the object lines.I installed the latest drivers (Quadro FX 3500)...Is there a setting we're missing? Thanks,GE Healthcare TechnologiesClinical SystemsMonitoring SolutionsEric R. Can anyone tell me if this is possible in Wildfire? I am looking to display symbols for the holes of the same diameter. A hole table (not like the standard hole table), would display a summaryof the diameter and quantity.
I have been asked to set up a Pro-E workstation for our China branch. I recently did this for a branch in the Netherlands by buying a workstation here in the states and loading 1 locked seat of Pro-E on it, running in english. The only problem I had was the power supply difference between the US and the Netherlands. Luckily the power supply on my workstation could be changed.I do not need PDM or WindchillI think they will want to run with Chinese menus. Will I be able to use the files they create just by opening in my Pro-e? Is it legal to send a pre-configured workstation with licensed software to a communist country?Any suggestions and/or experiences would be much appreciated. Of course I only get to the end of this week to figure it all out!!!Thanks in advance,Mike JohnsonSenior CAD DesignerCarlisle Industrial Brake812-334-8797- ***if you receive an attachment with extension .cib it is a zip file.
