Color coded searches are used to visually recognize parts in an assembly that meet certain search criteria. They are easy to set-up in PTC Creo View and can benefit the whole Enterprise. Configuration Management can see what parts are still at the Lifecycle state of "In Work". The presenters will discuss how to use the color coded search to recognize which parts and assemblies have been released before sending them off to get manufactured. Manufacturing will then be able to recognize parts that contain hazardous material and require special handling. This allows the model to show the critical information instead of a text file. The method to communicate the allowable part feature variation from design to manufacturing has been with tolerances. In a Model Based Definition (MBD) environment 3D models are used to define Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). The correct application and harmonization of national and international standards becomes complex and challenging. The GT&T advisor provides expert guidance on the correct application of GD&T and ensures standards compliance within PTC Creo Parametric. Picture a NASA Engineer out at the launch pad. New construction has been completed, and the engineer has been asked to inspect the job. While working, the engineer repeatedly travels between the site and his desk, spending time seeking out information, printing out drawings for reference, and attempting to align schedules to meet with the team. This type of scenario is not just specific to Kennedy Space Center though, many industries partake in similar circumstances—most realizing that there is always a need for more information, and often at a moment’s notice. While this approach will eventually get the job done, NASA KSC-ESC has questioned how to use readily available resources to streamline work processes, become more efficient, and produce less waste. Starting with PTC Creo 3.0, PTC Creo Parametric users can now write Java applications which extend and enhance the PTC Creo Parameteric user interface. This means Java programmers can now modify the PTC Creo Parametric ribbon menus and write their own dialog boxes; something that was previously available only to C and C++ developers. The presenter will discuss the techniques needed to get a Java program into a PTC Creo Parametric ribbon tab - creating the ribbon definition file and adding buttons and tying those buttons to your Java code. Next, the presenter will discuss how to define dialog box components in PTC Creo Parametric's UI resource files, and how to write the code to respond to the dialog box components. The final part of the presentation will focus on sharing the techniques for managing dialog boxes as they grow and become more complex. Ever need to clean up or change imported geometry, but are not an Import Data Doctor (IDD) user? Then this presentation is for you. The presenter will review some basic techniques in IDD for attendees who are regular PTC Creo users, but are intimidated or not experienced with IDD. The presenter will show how to clean up imports, decrease the level of detail and speed up imported models. One of the great attributes of Solid Modeling is being able to do virtual analysis. A common analysis function is interference checking. Most users know how to run a simple interference check of the assembled components. However great this tool is, interference checks have limitations. In most cases engineers are checking interference in a static, constrained assembly. What if engineers need to know if you can assemble a part without interferences? Are you able to check clearances to avoid interference from tolerances? Think about the idea of having 3D visuals available on the shop floor as you are putting your product together. PTC Creo View representations can be embedded right in your documentation. Manufacturing needs a lot more information to put together products than just a product bill of material and some engineering drawings. By using the work instructions, which are a deliverable of manufacturing process plans, you can now get documents that detail how to put the product together. This presentation will cover what kind of information is stored within a process plan and how Solar Turbines used them to leverage 3D visualization. The presenter will also discuss how it can be use out-of-the-box as well as using a few customizations that can really enhance the level of detail while removing a lot of redundant manual work. Is your lead time from harness manufactures too long? Are product managers always wondering why the electrical systems are on the critical path for time to market? Unlike many MCAD relationships that OEM’s have with their suppliers, wire harness suppliers are typically given only an engineering drawing to build the harness from. No 3D models, no data, not anything but a piece of paper. This proves to be very inefficient given the amount of data that goes into a wire harness. During this presentation, the presenter will discuss how leveraging the native 3D and 2D flattened harness developed in PTC Creo/Cabling, attendees can collaborate with their harness supplier(s) helping them turn the PTC Creo models into information needed to build the harness.
