You get it. You understand the value for having your content in XML. Perhaps you are already there or on your way. Now you have all of your content tagged and structured for optimal reuse. You breathe a sigh of relief. Then you get the request to produce high quality designed outputs for things such as catalogs, product brochures, data sheets, or even advertisements, etc…. Can your rendering engine handle it? If you have Arbortext the answer is definitely YES! In this recording of the one hour webinar, we will show you how you can automate the creation of high volume, high quality output using the Arbortext Suite of products. About The PresenterSimon Taylor is the Product Manager for XML Publishing and Layout Applications at PTC. Simon spends his time “thinking about putting content on pages”. He has defined the requirements for several full product releases, presented at numerous conferences, represented PTC and product during sales processes and otherwis
When requesting a jt file from a client for import to isodraw, what export settings should be requested for an optimal 2d conversion when using isodraw? For instance, we had two jt of files of the same assembly. One had a superior result when converting the drawing to 2d. The other had a lot of missing detail. I am assuming it has to do with the export compression setting/options when the jt file is being created/exported.I need to know if there are certain settings that I can request.
One thing we are noticing is that when editing a book and only changing a lower level burst object the main book doesn't get tagged as changed and therefore doesn't generate a new rendition on check-in. Has anyone come across this before and is there a way to fix that?Currently we are using Editor 5.4 and WC 9.1.Thanks in advance for any help.Brian
When I insert a Iso file into an Arbortext document the only part of the illustration that shows up are the leader lines. Do lines on top of the rendered file need to be grouped together in IsoDraw before the iso file is inserted into Arbortext?
Dear Adepters,I seem not to be able to let go of Arbortext... When PTC acquired Arbortext some years ago, I must admit that I feared the worst. I am happy to have been proved wrong: obviously the product line flourishes!- As from next week, I'm available for Arbortext Editor development projects. Could travel and work on-site in Europe, but prefer to work from my home office (which has a 25 Mb/s pipe). As some of you might know, I'm ACL/XUI/JavaScript proficient. I can reluctantly understand and speak Java. I have also done some stylesheet development with Styler. The last few years I've mainly been developing complex websites using the Python driven open source Plone CMS. Lately also wet my feet with C# / Silverlight / Windows Phone. And since I moved from Stockholm to Berlin five years ago I've learned German! It feels good to be back here!Karl Johan Kleist / karl.johan@kleist-it-consulting.de

OK, here's one for y'all:Before I contact technical support, has anyone seen this formatting error message?Runtime error formatting document: main:Error=[A11460] Formatter error on page -1.! Too late for \patterns. This is an internal error and is probably not recoverable. The document doesn't preview, and no cache files are created. FWIW: \patterns would appear to be TeX.This started happening yesterday. I tried the document and FOSI from the previous day, which had formatted without problem, and I get the same error with them. Which suggests the problem is not in the docs or FOSIs. 😞I am running 6.0 F000.Thanks for any insight! (BTW: How is the font size in this email?)Suzanne Napoleonwww.FOSIexpert.com"WYSIWYG is last-century technology!"
Hello All,After few hours of battling to configure datamergeusing the examples supplied with the distribution, i enventually figured out what the problem is. I was running Arbortext 6, 64-bit and trying to connect to a 32-bit ODBC source (I run 32-bit office).I must have missed the point in the docs where this is pointed out. Reinstalling 32-bit Arbortext solved the problem. Has anybody figured out a way to use the 64-bit arbortext and access 32-bit ODBC sources?Best reagrds,Mark
Hello All,To set up for datamerge, I need to add a datasource to the .dcf file. I could do this quite easily in docbook. Problem is I need it in a DITA topic (Technicalcontent). I can't find anything on how to do this on the web or in the help.- Can you use Datamerge in a DITA topic?- What do I need to do to configure my site to do this?I am using Arbortext 6.Thanks for you help,Mark
I haven't seen anything (other than one spam email) on Adepters inalmost a week. Slow news week? Or perhaps something more sinister...

Hi, I have a question regarding S1000D LSAR Driven Compilation. I'm using a maintained SNS structure for a ship: * when I select a Doc Code from the drop down list, I select thefirst entry, which has a "2 37 AAO 0 My System Name".* I get a dialog box "Add figure 2 37?"* Then a second dialog box "Creating DMC in linked CSDB Project:My Project Name" but here's where it goes wrong. I don't get the SNSmanager.* A third dialog box appears and I'm getting an error whichstates "The Document code does not exist in the SNS structure." I'm trying to figure out what this means. Does this have anything to do with the "S" Airframe/Engine setting inthe IPPN or is there another cause? I am led to understand that "S"means chapterized and is not Airframe/Engine specific? I figure thatchapterization has to be working because I can manually Add Figure viathe Parts Catalog Manager Menu and create a 941 Data Module via the SNSManager. Greg
Hi,In my instance.acl script, I'm trying to test for the existence of an external variable and source the appropriate file depending on whether or not it's defined. This is how I'm trying to do it, but it doesn't seem to be working:if ($main::ENV["XPS3_HOME"] != ") { source $XPS3_HOME\XPSDocs\entities\commonStartup.acl} else { source $XPS_HOME\XPSDocs\entities\commonStartup.acl};That is, when "XPS3_HOME" is not defined, I'm getting an error during startup indicating that at line 2 it's trying to use an undefined variable. Anyone know the correct way of doing this test?ThanksDaveSiemens
Hi all,I have a textbox in a XUI. There are cases when the textbox entry should be empty. That textbox string or empty value is populated to an attribute in the document xml. When deleting a string in the box the value returned to the change event listener is the last stored value. It seems to not recognize when the last character or a full string is deleted from the box, which should have created an empty textbox/value essentialy. Any recommendations? I'm using JavaScript with the XUI. I claim to not be a XUI or interface expert.Thank you,Bryan

Hi, When I copy a simple table from MS Excel into an S1000D document anduse the Edit/Paste Excel feature, I get a table of the correct size andnumber of rows, but the table is empty. I've painstakingly followed the directions for using the Excel importfeature to the letter, but the result is the same. Looking at the source all the entry rows are empty. Suggestions? Greg
I have just upgraded to Arbortext 6.0 M010. We use an aliasFilePrintPreview command to execute an ACL script when the Print Preview icon is clicked on the Edit toolbar. This all worked great in Arbortext 5.x. I have checked the editmenu.cf file to make sure that I have the correct command for Print Preview and I have also check the editwindow.xml file to verify the toolbar command. It still says FilePrintPreview. If I modify the editwindow.xml file to execute the script it works fine but that will change it for the entire application and I need it to be doctype specific. I have also tried to alias the id Toolbar_Preview but still no luck.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone had any experience using Arbortext to output to the "Folio Views" and "NXT" formats?
Recently, I been asked a few times about the Advanced Print Publisher's integration with Styler and the Publishing Engine. I have also heard some incorrect discriptions of how things work, so I thought I would take this opportunity to clear things up and give you some extra information too.As you should be aware by now, Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher (APP) is a print coposition engine. It is a very flexible and speedy one which can produce really high quality pages without needing any manual intervention. It was first integrated with Styler and APE in 5.4 as a technology preview, becoming production ready in the M060 release. The Advanced Print Publisher was integrated for a number of reasons, but its language capabilities (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hebrew, Arabic and so on) and the increased typographical and layout capabilies were key.In Styler, you now have the choice of using APP, FOSI or XSL-FO to generate print pages. For the integration, we spent a great deal of time
We've been using the Windchill Workgroup Manager for a few months and have been feeling the pain more and more of not having the checkin tied to our publish macro. The situation: We had a publish/save macro. Basically it exported eps files and saved the currently open iso file to a network location. When we moved to workgroup manager I took the save portion of the macro away, but it is still needed to export. Is there a way to call out the two different checkin functions from a macro? Or is it possible to 'fool' the system and call two functions from a toolbar to occur at a single button push?
Hello Adepters,I'm trying to make some decisions about our import/export future roadmap and support. Specifically, I am trying to get a sense of how many people use the import/export feature for Word 2002.I'd be interested to hear from you if this is a version you currently use in production for your import/export of Arbortext content. I believe there is a low volume of customers, and this may lead to sunsetting that specific version's support. Thanks for any feedback.-------------------------------------------Pushpinder ToorArbortext Product Manager
