This is just a sharing post. My company completed a major step in our divestiture from RTX. Shout out to @ShawnLothrop and the Boston Engineering team for their help. After a clone/split/delete project, it was time to lift and shift Windchill to our new network. The rehost was a snap with a good architecture setup suggestion from BE (running with a proxy server). So, one of the things we had to do was update the LDAP and Oracle tables since each user was getting a new userid and email address. 1. Updating WindchillDS LDIF: This was done with an LDIF export and "sed" command. Looks like something like this: sed -e "s/joe.schmo@oldcompany.com/jschmo@newcompany.com/" -e "s/joe.schmo/jschmo777/" -e "s/jane.doe@oldcompany.com/jdoe@newcompany.com/" -e "s/jane.doe/jdoe523/" ... <sourceLDAP_5_28_2021_orig.ldif>sourceLDAP_5_28_2021_new.ldif Key was to do the email FIRST then the username. This will update all occurrences which takes care of group membershi
We have Navigate connected and authenticating to Windchill. Since Navigate is case sensitive for user ids, all of our ids in Windchill are lowercase. There is a feature where if the user uses uppercase, Thingworx will create a new account but still let them login. How can we disable this (auto account creation)? I cannot seem to find an article or doc on this.
for getting CAD Structure of assembly, we are using the service /CADDocuments('{CADDocumentId}')/PTC.CADDocumentMgmt.GetStructure and adding the $expand=Components($expand=CADDocument($select=Name,Number,Version,State,TypeIcon);$levels=max) for some assemblies its giving the desired results but for some assembly it throws error in WRS response as "OData Library: An exception without message text was thrown.". can anyone help me resolve this issue.
Hi,With Options & Variants capability in windchill 9.1, how we can build the rules (Parameters, expressions, constraints, case tables, etc.,) to drive the quantity of an item under an Advanced Configurable Part?Example:Consider the below BOM:Top_Part (Adv Config Part) Part1 (for option1) Qty - 1 Part2 (for option2) Qty - 2 Part3 (for both options) Qty - 2 Meters for Option1 and 5 Meters for Option2While configuring, selecting option1 should result in:Top_Part Part1 Qty - 1 Part3 Qty - 2 MetersSelecting option2 should result in:Top_Part Part2 Qty - 2 Part3 Qty - 5 MetersCan you please help in this? Thanks,Prabhakaran V.
Hello! I am implementing Windchill Options and Variants capabilities, As a result of a Configure action I want my new variant WTPart to have the same name attribute as my generic WTPart. How can I implement that in the OIR? Thanks!
Hi We have a number of licenses, PTC Navigate Contribute and PTC Navigate Author. We are not using the modular interface but the standard Windchill browser interface. To what legacy license types (Windchill light & heavy) does this relates ?Are you allowed to run Creo with a Navigate Author or are these (Contribute & Author) solely for non Cad work ?
Hello, Why is DeletedParts options are available in ESI Response file? Does it get enabled in any way or is it just a place holder ? <DeletedParts NAME="DeletedParts" TYPE="Unknown" STATUS="0"></DeletedParts> Thanks, Sha
Hi, in our project, customer decided to switch from basic authentication to form based authentication. We have existing interfaces which were configured to use the basic authentication. I have found that adding "/protocolAuth" to the Rest Urls would work form based authentication. But this will require that the interface partners have to update their urls. Is there an another way to handle this conversion, without having to update the URLs of the interface a? Thanks in advance!
Hi We have a number of old perpetual Windchill light & heavy licenses in out bunldle but they are expired in 2009. When you now want to use these licenses do you need to pay the maintenance fee for the years 2009->2021 ? Just want some confirmation on that point. Regards Bernard
I am using Creo Parametric - Release 3.0 (connected) 3.0 M190관리자가 작업공간을 생성하였는데, 이 작업공간을 특정 사용자가 볼 수 없습니다. 해당 문제에 대해 조치 부탁 드립니다.
PTC Release Advisor is a new web-based tool available on the Support Portal , which consolidates compatibility documentation and upgrade recommendations across PTC products. This new tool can help you plan an upgrade of a PTC product, while considering other PTC products you use, and key variables in your environment such as Database , browser and Operating Systems. Release Advisor’s intuitive UI guides you through a step by step process of filling this information in – and then generates a high-level upgrade and compatibility table -based on the products and variables most important to you. Users can also navigate to a more detailed release matrix, which displays all compatibility information for a specific release. For a brief demo of the tool, check out this short video: Release Advisor Demo - YouTube
Sorry new Windchill user here. I am trying to understand how Windchill works and have a question on Cancelled revisions. It is easiest for me to use an example to explain. Say I have a drawing B.5 status "Released"I revise it and the system generates the next revision C.1 with status "In Work"This drawing is worked on through various iterations to C.7 with status" In Work" Version B.5 status is still released. At this point this revision "C" is cancelled / postoned / abandoned for whatever reason. I know that I could delete revision "C" but there may be some useful work done in version "C.*" and it would be useful to retain these drawings. So is there a way / status to keep the drawing but when another change is planned for drawing B.5 the revise function can be done and starts with revision D.1?Is there a status I could set C.7? Like Cancelled or Abandoned? Many ThanksIan
Is there a list of "non-Creo CAD" versions compatible with Windchill? i.e. which AutoCAD versions are supported? Do you stay up to date? Users are complaining that Windchill can't maintain links with connected Revit files. This is defeating our efforts to move everyone into a proper PLM system. Has this been resolved?
Sorry if this is a newbie question, but we are just getting started on WindChill. Where do the documents, when downloaded, store the version number? For example, we will be working with AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Solidworks. Is the version number stored in some type of custom attribute?
Hello, I've implement a new wizard to generate a report (.xlsx) and return it to the user as a downloadable file. I used the logic from this topic: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS218250?&language=en&posno=1&q=setResultNextAction&source=search For wizard it works as expected, but I need this function for a custom table action without a wizard. Does anyone know if it is possible? Thanks in advance. Best regards, Timo
Hi all I am doing a report based on the Location Change Record. One field displayed from the "History Record.Label" is showing these values: UPDATE EPP_STATUS_CHANGE EPP_FINISH_CHANGE What is the meaning of these values? What do they represent? thanks Rick
Unable to map into Windchill a User Defined Attribute coming from Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. Is there a way to set the WTPart attribute?

Hi, Anyone know what setting might need to be changed to allow the Windchill Workgroup Manager interface for Solidworks to create a drawing for a part or assembly file under the same part number? We are receiving the following error message that the drawing is not unique. Funny thing is if I rename the Solidworks part file in the workspace to a different file name and then rename it back to the original file name. The drawing is then allowed to be created with the same part number as the part file. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks for any help you can provide, Don A
Hi, I'm trying to construct an URL to be used from a mapkey in Creo Parametric as a direct link to classification explorer (Partslink) in Windchill. I'm not equipped with the knowledge to figure this out by myself, perhaps some of the gurus in the community can give me some pointers. So far I've tried: http://<WindchillHost>/Windchill/app/#netmarkets/jsp/search/classificationExplorer.jsp This works in some cases, not stable at all, gives no info about the overall session. BR
Just a reminder that we are running a survey on your transition from legacy Change links to Flexible Change Associations. We introduced the Flexible Change Associations in 11.0 with tools to help transition from the legacy to new links including being able to run in Mixed mode where anything new is Flexible Mode and your older running processes can complete in Legacy mode (to be converted once complete) In the next major release of Windchill our goal is to remove support for the Legacy links - the survey is to understand and gain your feedback as to where you are in the process. Thank you for your input - the link to the survey is: Flexible Change Association Survey We plan to close the survey on May 31st
During new PLM part creation is there any option where if I select commodity type all attributes should populate automatically for that new PLM part. This will save so much of time if user creating bulk part numbers. Please help if there is such option available ?
How does Windchill identify pending change and resulting change in ESI transactions? Checked the XML of the ESI transaction but there's no CRs or CNs in it. How else can we stop MRP/ERP buying or manufacturing low revisions?
I searched for navigate 9.1 Install guide via Reference Files Search. When I opened English link for it, Navigate 9.2 Install guide opened. 9.2 is not released yet and installation is very different that 9.1. https://www.ptc.com/en/support/refdoc/ThingWorx_Navigate/9.1/Navigate_Installation_Configuration_PDF?&art_lang=en&posno=3&q=&DocumentType=Reference%20Document&Product=ThingWorx%20Navigate&Release=9.1&source=search Please correct the link.
My reading of the Windchill Customization Guide guide tells me that the siteMod folder under wtSafeArea is intended for modifications to all OOTB file. Can anyone share with me a good reason why we would store all (OOTB modified files + custom new files) in this location? To me it's a mess. This folder is there for the upgrade process to read and generate the required file updates for OOTB files, Before I launch a campaign with my team to clean this up, please let me know if there is actually a good reason, benefit to keeping your files this way. My stance otherwise is we move all non-OOTB files out of there and shift the focus to improving our GIT repo management habits. From the Windchill Customization Guide page 102: support.ptc.com/WCMS/files/171950/en/11_0_M20_WindchillCustomizationGuide.pdf The following summary describes the purpose of each subdirectory: siteMod – contains the site version of each PTC file that you have modified andwant to
