Michael Jordan makes over $300,000 a game. With $40 million in endorsements, he makes $178,100 a day, working or not. If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head. If he goes to see a movie, it'll cost him $7.00, but he'll make $18,550 while he's there. If he wanted to save up for a new Mercedes S-Class ($90,000) it would take him a whole 12 hours. Assuming he puts the federal maximum of 15% of his income into a tax deferred account (401k), he will hit the federal cap of $9500 at 8:30 a.m. on January 1st. If you were given a penny for every 10 dollars he made, you'd be living comfortably at $65,000 a year. Amazing isn't it? Today is National Simplicity Day!!   Placed on famous contemporary transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau’s birthday!  If alive today he would be a crisp 204 years old….eew.  Anyway, As Thoreau, himself said: “As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” Today was meant to unshackle you from unmeaningful things with emphasis on the importance of directing your focus internally.  It is your day to reflect on what is most important to you.  Go ahead and give yourself permission to take your mental stock and start your purging and decluttering!!!   Fun Fact: # of items in the average American home = 300,000    So while you are inspired to think about a "less is more" lifestyle.... All,   We realise there are hot summers even at higher lattitudes. Its not so much lattitude only, in addition the earth's tilt, proximity to sun, and earth's orbit thus leading to duration of a season.   Canada continues to experience a heat wave, with lightning strikes during the hot weather. Usually most parts of the world at the time of lightning strikes its usually raining or just about to start. So what happened here? Clouds appeared, lightning occured, but no rain. With lightning heat sufficient enough to start a fire on dry grassland.    How do you validate climate change in Canada in this June-July 2021 experience ? When 'climate change and its impact' is a relatively HOT topic in most parts of the world.    Another goal for climate change proponents maybe. Lucky America has a president who does not discredit climate change. Your comments are welcome if needed. It was more so a recognition of this event in PTC Community.     &

They are all too busy trying to design the perfect light bulb. A2: Only the one with the instruction manual. A3: One. But she would insist that the way she did it was distinctive. A4: Three. One to hold the ladder, one to hold the light bulb, and the third to interpret the foreign text. A5: Five. One to design a nuclear-powered light bulb that never needs changing, one to figure out how to power the rest of the USA using that nuked light bulb, two to install it, and one to write the computer program that controls the wall switch. A6: None. "According to my calculations, the problem doesn't exist."

KEEPING UP THE ENERGY Here are some facts about the past year and a half: Corona came along and really messed up the world. Fact.  The business world's response to Corona was immense and the digital world itself became super busy. Also fact. Because we all ended up at home behind our desks and moving even less than normal, we piled on the so-called Corona lbs/kilos. Sad fact! 😥 Some parts of the world are slowly coming out of lockdown and offices are opening properly once more, but it is still a massive effort to stay energised, both in body and mind, whether it's doing fitness, being creative just relaxing or taking care of nutritional values!   ENERGIZING INITIATIVES Oddly enough, the past year I myself have never felt more energised! At PTC we have really strong internal communities, in particular an Employee Resource Group (ERG) literally called "PTC Energise",  focused on building a global community around health and wellness. Grateful for thunderstorms this morning - we had been in a severe drought. Farmers around here will be happy (if things didn't wash away to much).     A Herd of Buffalo A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo, and when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole keeps improving by the regular culling of the weakest members.   In much the same way, the human brain can operate only as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills off brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. By hooking into the World Wide Web, you can look at a variety of electronic "pages", consisting of documents, pictures, and videos created by people all over the world. One of these is a guy named (really) George Goble, a computer person in the Purdue University engineering department. Each year, Goble and a bunch of other engineers hold a picnic in West Lafayette, Indiana, at which they cook hamburgers on a big grill. Being engineers, they began looking for practical ways to speed up the charcoal-lighting process. "We started by blowing the charcoal with a hair dryer," Goble told me in a telephone interview "Then we figured out that it would light faster if we used a vacuum cleaner." Invest time into those around you.     Five Surgeons     Five surgeons were hanging out at the PTCooler and were discussing their work.   The first said, "I think accountants are the easiest to operate on. You open them up and everything inside is numbered."   The second said, "I think librarians are the easiest to operate on. You open them up and everything inside is in alphabetical order."   The third said, "I like to operate on electricians. You open them up and everything inside is color-coded."   The fourth one said, "I like to operate on lawyers. They're heartless, spineless, gutless, and their heads and their butts are interchangeable."   The fifth surgeon said, "I like Engineers...they always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end..."  

For those in the States, take time to remember those who gave their lives for the service of this country. Shed a tear, give a hug, say thanks....     Feel my pain... One day in heaven, the Lord decided He would visit the earth and take a stroll. Walking down the road, He encountered a man who was crying.   The Lord asked the man, "Why are you crying, my son?" The man said that he was blind and had never seen a sunset. The Lord touched the man who could then see and was happy.   As the Lord walked further, He met another man crying and asked, "Why are you crying, my son?" The man was born a cripple and was never able to walk. The Lord touched him and he could walk and he was happy.   Farther down the road, the Lord met another man who was crying and asked, "Why are you crying, my son?" The man said, "Lord, I am an engineer."   ...and the Lord sat down and cried with him.

What a beautiful day that has been made for you. Take time to rejoice and be glad.     Fishing Vacation An engineer and a lawyer were recently fishing in the Caribbean. The fishing was outstanding and they got to talking about their vacations.   The lawyer said, "I'm here because my house burned down, and everything I owned was destroyed by the blazing fire. The insurance company paid for everything."   That's quite a coincidence," said the engineer. "I'm here because my house and all my belongings were destroyed by a raging flood, and my insurance company also paid for everything."   The puzzled lawyer asked, "How DO you start a flood?"

Congratulations, April 2021 Top Engagers!  Today, May 18th, is "National No Dirty Dishes Day!"  So, the PTC Community Team is giving you a free pass to eat anything and all you want whether you are working from home or back at the office! Hug the ones you love.     Engineer's Diet We all know that it takes 1 calorie to heat 1 gram of water 1 degree celsius. Translated into meaningful terms, this means that if you eat a very cold dessert (generally consisting of water in large part), the natural processes which raise the consumed dessert to body temperature during the digestive cycle literally sucks the calories out of the only available source, your body fat. For example, a dessert served and eaten near 0 degrees C (32.2 deg.F) will in a short time be raised to the normal body temperature of 37 degrees C (98.6 deg. F). For each gram of dessert eaten, that process takes approximately 37 calories as stated above. The average dessert portion is 6 oz, or 168 grams. Therefore, by operation of thermodynamic law, 6,216 calories (1 cal./gm/deg. x 37 deg. x 168 gms)

After a week and a half of detention (quarantine - exposed, but not sick), here are some thoughts for the weekend. Take some quiet time to focus on those around you, those you love and see what you can do to make a difference. Call someone who is homebound and let them know they were on your mind.       Engineers vs. God One day a group of engineers got together and decided that man had come a long way and no longer needed God. They picked one engineer to go and tell Him that they were done with Him.   The engineer walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided that we no longer need you. We're to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so why don't you just go on and get lost." God listened patiently to the man and after the engineer was done talking, God said, "Very well! How about this? Let's have a man-making contest."   The man replied, "Okay, great!" But God added, "Now we're going to do this just like I did back in the old days
