This relates to my previous post on table formatting. I've got a newproblem where I'm trying to format the header row of a table. I want toset the text to center justify. Setting this in the FOSI doesn't changethe output even though the "resolve" display shows it as center. When I select the row with Table Properties, it seems like Left justifymight be the default - Left is what I'm finding as my output. For table width, PTC indicates that having a full width table is the asdesigned intention when columns are set proportionally. Setting the TableProperty of Use Default (100%) seems to have no effect.Setting the columns to fixed values makes the table set to less than fullpage width. I thought that maybe center justification needed a fixedwidth, but that didn't change anything.Any idea why my headings will not center justify?..dan
Hi Adepters,Here's an easy question to start the day off: In addition to "plain text" XML catalogs, does Arbortext support catalogs with the XML syntax (
Does anyone know if it is possible to code the CRC-32 algorithm using ACL ?Or is it best carried out using Java and then called from within the ACL.Regards,Andy
I have a wide table that really needs to be oriented landscape, but just changing the attribute is not making it turn. What else should I be looking for that's keeping it from landscape? I am using Arbortext Editor 5.2 with Styler.
I have been working on an assembly from a customer. I have been converting STEP , STP files in IsoDraw with no problems. However I have encountered a huge 370M chassis STP file that takes about 20 minutes to open but when I try to save it the program has to close.Any suggestions as far as how I can make this work without getting the message “IsoDraw has to close now”?Would copying IsoDraw to my computer at home which has 4G Ram and a 64 bit processor help versus the 3G Ram 32 bit processor at work make a difference?
Anyone recognice this problem and how to solve it? It started with Iso-draw 7.1, I haven´t had the problem in earlier versions./Magnus
All,We have a large document that we assemble from several smaller docs managed and versioned independently. The large doc has a cross reference where the ID is in one of the smaller docs and the IDREF is in another. The problem is, our CMS checkin process (which we coded ourselves), runs a completeness check on the doc first, and only proceeds with the checkin if the check succeeds. The smaller docs with the ID and the IDREF obviously fail the completeness check since the doc is missing either the ID or the IDREF. Is there a way to get around this while still running the completeness check?Thanks,-- Brian Jensenbjensen@bluelid.com
Does anyone have the old EMS-2 40051 DTDs from Arbortext 4.3 converted and recompiled for 5.4?Since 4.3 won't run simultaneously with 5.4, it makes it hard to cut and paste from one to the other. Not to mention the mapped key shortcuts are different between versions and I keep deleting tags instead of modifying them.I know maintenae.dtd compiles wrong...not sure about the others. Shoot, they won't even recompile correctly for 4.3.1!Thanks,John T. I thought CALS table properties were "automatically" recognized. Withinthe editor, I have changed the width of my table to less than a page wide. This displays as expected in the editor. I then test the composed view andthe table fills the column width. It seems I can change the proportion ofthe columns, but I can't get the overal table width to change.I've set/unset the pgwide value to see if this affected anything - nodifference. I've alos used the table properties which inserts a PI - thishad no chnage.Any idea what is going on?..dan
As most of you know, we've been working on updating the Army's 40051 XSL style sheets. I think we've made headway, but there are so #%#$%^ permutations we'll never cover them all. 😞Anyway one of the things we've been sort of ignoring in favor of real formatting is that graphics are not showing up. The appear in the screen display and when I process using a print FOSI, but are totally absent in the FO. One of our ladies says she has it working, but only if she puts the graphics in the same folder as the FO files. Okay for testing, but definitely not what one would want for production. So is there a secret that we're missing here. Lynn
Hi Adepters, I'm having an issue that could be solved by using a variable in XPath, which I don't know how to do, or perhaps by some other means. Here is the situation. I have an XML that looks like this: <matching> <match> <left>Statement 1a</left> <right printorder="2">Statement 1b</right> </match> <match> <left>Statement 2a</left> <right printorder="4">Statement 2b</right> </match> <match> <left>Statement 3a</left> <right printorder="1">Statement 3b</right> </match> <match> <left>Statement 3a</left> <right printorder="3">Statement 4b</right> </match> </matching> This is a matching question in which each left element matches with it's sibling right element. However, for presentation, I want to scramble the order of the right answers so that the user has to make a match. To this end, I have a little routine that uses a random numbe
If you have information about your company’s product or services that needs to be delivered to customers, whether it’s in print or electronic form, chances are you have heard of XML. This is another can I do this question. I have a procedure that has abunch of steps. There are what I call conditions that group some of thesesteps together. In some cases where there are multiple conditions there isan OR relationship between them. The steps within these conditions can span several pages and it is notalways obvious when 2 or more conditions are related to each other. So farI have only seen a choice between 2 conditions, but I would think thepossibility exists for having more than two.The printed sample I have uses an arrow that points to the condition text, then a bar down the side of the page until the next condition that is thenpointed to. On each page that this bar appears, the word OR is inserted. The OR floats to different locations, so it sort of looks like this wascreated by hand rather than with a stylesheet. Anyway it sort of lookslike this in print:--> If main wheel tire is blown:| 1. Brake ...| 2. Arrestment briefing ..| NOTE| some note text here| 3. another
Is there an ACL command to determine the end of an element ?Whilst reading an XML file from top to bottom I am setting a flag when I come across a table for example:if( oid_name(this_o) == "table" ){ in_table=1;} How do I turn the flag off when I get to the end of the table element? Is there an oid command for this ? Regards,Andy
Good Afternoon, I have been working with the Arbortext editor for a whileand only use Screen Fosi's because we use SDL's XPP for our outputs. Myquestion is "When you are using a Screen Fosi do you have to haveComposer for to display your output"? Thanks, C. Scott Turner ( (757)896-5505 (work) | * -
I've got two issues with tables regarding spacing.1) I'm trying to get a standard space above and below the content of acell (really the whole row) in a CALS table. It seems like prespace worksjust fine but any value I insert for postspace is ignored. I'm placingthis on the element contained in the cell. There is just the one elementin the table I'm trying to modify. The only thing that seems to work is touse the newline touchup. At least I get space above and below, I haven'ttried controling the actual space beyond this as I didn't really like thesolution. I also tried the touchup pre/post space settings and it didn'twork any better than setting it on the element.2) The space around the same table seems to be fixed. It appears to beabout .25in of space above and below my table. I can add space to thiswith pre/post space, but when those are not set I have a standard .25inarea above and below. I've added and removed text on the page to see if itwasnt' just this page's content. If I set
I'm having a problem with getting an alignment group to work with boxing.I have a typical chapter with markup like this:<chapter><title>CHAPTER TITLE</title><section><title>Head 1 title</title>...</section><section><title>Head 2 title</title>...</section></chapter>This is not goign to be reporduced like a typical chapter title setup.Instead I have to do something like this
We answer a lot of questions about Arbortext, in a lot of different places. This is only one of them. Why? Because we're one of the few qualified PTC-Arbortext partners. Because we've been working with the Arbortext solution for more than a decade.Arbortext is not simply an XML Editor or Illustration tool. It’s a big-picture solution that includes all the pieces required for creation, management, and publishing of enterprise content. In fact, Arbortext is the only out-of-the-box, end-to-end solution. Since the acquisition by PTC in 2005, Arbortext has been focused on making sure the products are integrated and play nicely with each other. We have all heard horror stories from publication groups who have had to ducktape a solution together in order to get the full solution. Often times, despite years of work, they never really realize the full capabilities of a complete end-to-end solution. We get questions from customers and prospective customers who are at all p

Hi everybody,I trying to create array of elements to save the selected elements in the array (becouse after second selection all first elements are gone)somebody know how to create array in isodraw?
I believe that Arbortext's Enhanced Completeness Check for DITA documents is causing me an unfair amount of pain. First, here's all the on-line Help has to say about Enhanced Completeness Check, followed by my problems:"Enhanced completeness checking checks for things that are described in the DITA standard, but cannot be validated against the DTD or XML schema. For example, enhanced completeness checking checks for missing files, incorrect or unusual URL formats, unusual format and type attribute values, the use of deprecated elements or attributes, and so forth."The following experiments are with Arbortext 5.4M060.* If I have a bunch of topics with xref elements whose href attributes point to external Web pages (format = "html" and scope = "external"), I frequently get the following error:External/Peer reference does not existThis often happens if I'm behind a firewall without proxy settings configured to access the Internet. Is Arbortext trying to go out to the Internet to determine
Ever since 5.1 (we're now at 5.3 M060), we've had quite a fewcustomizations to XUI, Java classes, DTDs etc. that we've beenmanaging via "patch" releases sent out to our writers using a zipexecutable that simply overwrites files in the custom dir. Ouryearly writing cycle also lends itself to annual upgrades, and I'mstarting to look into deploying 5.4 for all of our users. That said, I've been reading up on the compact installation option, including the new installer creator, and I think it might be able toreplace our old patch system.Has anyone used these methods to deploy the editor to writers? Ifso, any tips or pros/cons would be helpful. Our customizations are fairly straight-forward, and usually involvenew compiled doctypes for tag additions, a new java class for XUIcustomizations, the occasional medical dictionary and XSLT for contentrender.Keith
Hello adepters, I have document with tag "sdc" - System Difference Code, which content is"A". I need to change content of all instances of tag "sdc" from A to B.I wrote simple code which produces such work. But, I have hundreds or thousands documents with sdc=A. It is not reasonableto make such work manually. I need to run my ACL code for many documentsfrom a list of files or for all documents in directory.Does somebody knows, is it possibly to produce by ACL: - open document (file name from a list of xml files)- run ACL- save and close document- open next document from the list of files, and so on? My code for reference for one document: function sdca2b(){## Replace content of SDC elements from "A" to "B"## find all SDC and put oids into array#$sdc_array = xpath_nodeset (sdc_nodes,"//sdc"); ## Get markups SDC from array #for (i=1; i <= sdc_array.length; i++ ) { goto_oid(sdc_nodes[i]); if (oid_content(sdc_nodes[i]) == "A") {##mark and delete content of tag sdc# mark -noselect -noinv
