Windchill

Hello all, I am quite new to Windchill Administration and now and I am faced with a big task. For my client, I have to update Intralink 11.1 to Windchill PDMLink 11.1. I found a quick guide here but it is not clear to me. What are the steps of this update? I know I have to make all backups like for a regular system upgrade and then I should run PSI and select Update Existing Installation.  If someone has the experience and can help me with this update it will be a huge help. Hi,   We have migration project ongoing from Windchill to Windchill using WBM. During full load migration, we observed that some CAD documents are already available in target system. We have renamed the data in staging database and continued with loading. Data loading was done successfully into Windchill. But when opening assemblies containing the renamed CAD documents, it is throwing errors and references to old name of cad documents are being searched.   Please guide, how to handle these kind of issues when dealing with renaming the duplicate objects   Regards Srikanth

Description of the customer :     The Customer is implementing the "As-Built / As-Maintained" product configuration. they are able to create part configurations, part instances. incorporate them in next higher level part instance levels and release the part instance structure. The initial As-built configuration can be built.During the lifecycle of a part instance (serial number) the part can get a mid life update or configuration modification. The part instance identification (e.g. serial number) has to stay the same but the product configuration is changed. As a consequence the part number (base part) of that part instance is changed. Based on the information the customer has, they are not able to update/change the base part.The Question is how to support this use case and change the base part of a part instance? Goal is to be able to track a specific part instance throughout it's entire service lifecycle?   Any information or documentation is more than welcome.

We have the case where a teamleader logs on to Windchill in one engineering pc and then goes to the workshop and logs on (using the same account) another time on a production pc. As we are making the move to Windchill 11.2 I wonder if this is still possible ?

Hi, Windchill 11.2 may not be recognizing internal value of lifecycle state when internal key is using special character like '&'. Here is the entry from custom StateRB info file. PUBLISHED_R&D.value=Published R&D   Set State operation throws an error. wt.util.WTInvalidParameterException: No EnumeratedType exists with "wt.lifecycle.State.PUBLISHED_R&D" as its internal value. Nested exception is: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException   Trying to figure out whether usage of special character is not supported anymore in rb info file? 

I am working in Windchill 10.1 and have an assembly that is a family table.  The instances are different configurations of the generic.  Now, I have an assembly with 2 of the instances assembled in it and when the WTPart structure is built for this assembly, the instances show up as separate Parts in the structure.  I currently have the generic as the owner of the WTPart with the instances with an Image type.  Is there a way to have the WTPart structure to roll these instances up and show a quantity of 2?   Thanks for any insight or help,   Ian Wexler

I just noticed interesting article in tech support (Article - CS328900,Update regarding state of PTC System Monitor (PSM) due to end-of-life of Dynatrace Appmon).   I am wondering how many is actually using PSM and any opinions about pure SaaS solution for application monitoring, which could mean that you have to open monitoring agent connections from your production server to SaaS cloud over the internet?

So some of this might be a Microsoft capability issue... some might be Windchill.  However, Looking to find a way to link checked in spreadsheets together.   Example.  I have a Summary Workbook.  I am going to perform statistics against multiple other workbooks.  Develop charts, sum, calculate etc.      Has anyone handled this with Excel + Windchill (DTI or not?)     Thanks in advance Jim

I am working on our company's CI/CD and I want to add logic to perform certain functions when certain files/paths are changed since the last pipeline run. One of these action is the restartAllLocalMethodServers command found in JConsole.  I'm familiar with running it from JConsole, but can't seem to find a class path to try calling it from command line. If there is no main function for whatever class this is built into, it'd be worth writing my own java utility class to call it. How can I perform a restartAllLocalMethodServers through Command Line?

After our upgrade to Winchill 12 all of our dictionary files (user.dict ) are totally empty. How can I obtain the default file?

I realize I am very late to the party but we are just now upgrading to PDMLink 10. Am I missing something or is it not possible to open the links from a search result into multiple tabs?IE if I search on a part number and I want to open the CAD object and the WT object that the search results returned in separate tabs is that possible?

Is there a functionality in Windchill 11.0 where you can save a snapshot or iteration of your assembly where all the associated parts and drawings can be saved at the same iteration.   For example, if I had an assembly with parts and drawings where I want to save that design as-is so that it can be restored or retrieved in the future.  This would be in the case that the design continues on a new course, that ends up not working out.  I would like to go back and retrieve the design iteration that I saved previously.   Thanks

Hi everyone,    I'm trying to get a workflow to trigger when a user submits a new document as part of a development project. I found this bit of code that pretty much does the trick: https://community.ptc.com/t5/Windchill/Auto-Create-wt-document/m-p/318327#M37355  I have the code in an expression robot in a workflow that's called in a phase process. By changing the wt.doc.WTDocument bits to wt.change2.DesignReview (in theory) I'd be set BUT... there is no wt.change2.DesignReview in the JavaDoc (we're on 11.2.1.4).   By putting in wt.change2.WTChangeRequest2 etc. the workflow functions just fine. Except I don't want to auto create a change request. I need to auto create a Design Review.    Any thoughts or ideas on how to proceed? Is this an intentional omission by PTC or am I looking at the wrong place in the documentation?    Many thanks!

Hello, The manufacturing engineers at my company are looking for 3D plant layout software.  I am curious if any Windchill users have incorporated the data generated from such software into Windchill.  Or even if any of you have suggestions for this type of software based on your experiences.
