This is a question from a co-worker:In our VB6 program, we're opening Arbortext Editor and loading an XML doc using the Epic.AclSingleUse COM method. At this time we're also passing in various string variables. We now need to pass in a COM object to Arbortext Editor to be used by Arbortext (via ACL) at various times during the editing process. Is anyone aware of how to use something along the lines of %userprofile% within the Toolbar.prf file? Example: Current line reads as follows... ToolbarUserItem: -2;C:\ptc\Program\Macros\Import_from_Illustrator.jpg; Want this to be something like this instead... ToolbarUserItem: -2;%userprofile%\\Application Data\PTC\IsoDraw\Macros\Import_from_Illustrator.jpg; Any ideas?

Maybe I am mistaken and don't know what I am doing (a good possibility), but it seems like wild cards (*) in substr don't work very well when searching for element names. I am trying to search for any elements that contain a given substring in their name, such as "-xyz". What is the correct syntax to use for this in ACL?For instance, if I were looking for any element that contained the substring "-xyz" in the element name, how would that oid_find_children(), or whatever, function read?As I have stated before, I am no ACL expert, nor do I play one on TV.________________________________

The entity list has to do with which characters show up in the characterentity dialog for fastest access. As the author uses various specialcharacters, they get recorded here on the assumption that the author maywant to reuse. And we initialize the list with a short set to beginwith. The pub caret processing instruction tells the Editor where the caretwas when the document was saved. We use this to put the caret back tothe same location when you reopen the document. Hi,I think I must be overlooking something simple..... again....My list items after a nested list are starting back at 1 like a reset has happened, but I only reset the counter at the begininng of the list.Example:(a) list item(b) list item (1) nested list item (2) nested list item(a) list item should be (c) the XML is coded correctly, because the screen displays it correctly with another FOSIWhat am I forgetting to check? Hello Again,I get the following error message when I try to preview the document.[A30040] ERROR: Infinite loop detected. Please check FOSI for recursive savetext/usetext combinations.What I've done is set up my XML document and the style sheet then I close it. I open the XML document in a text editor and change the starting tag to chapter. When I open the document in Arbortext and insert a TOC, then try to preview, I get the error message. According to Arbortext, TOC is still a legal tag after title. When I delete the TOC tag, the error message goes away.Curiouser and curiouser.Ginger

I can not open the ISODRAW application when I am not connected to the interenet. I get a message that states: "License request failed for feature ISODRAW". A previous moderator mentioned the order of NIC cards. The order of the NIC folders does not change wether or not I am connected to the internet. Ho do I resolve the issue? I need to be able to use the application while not connected to the internet.

A couple of weeks ago, apparently I fixed something that wasn't broken and don't have a clue what I did.Clicking File | Compose | PDF File, the down arrow next to Stylesheet has gone grey on me.I can no longer choose from half a dozen stylesheets on the PE. The Config File down arrow still works. It is there in the Print Composed dialog box and works fine.Can anyone tell me what I did to make THAT happen? Hello , I'm relativly new to the arbortext editor and have a task to find a way to access the editor from an other program to open a xml document, display it and access positions in the document through xpath-expressions. At the moment I am working with an evaluation copy of the arbortext editor, it takes a moment at the company to get a license key, but the app is used in the company, so that should be no issue . I am developing in C#, as it is used through the project. In my program workflow, the end user gets presented a list of comparison results, selects one, and a arbortext editor window shall be opened with the document, called from another open program I am working on. So far, I have found out, that I can add the editor ( epic.dll ) as reference. From there I have several classes and methods I can use, but somehow I am missing some examples or documentation how to use the exported classes and methods. I have a multi-volume tech manual (milspec) that uses a FOSI to produce PDF. I need to support cross-volume links for both editing as well as PDF generation I also wantt to produce multiple PDF files from this content.Currently I'm configured with a single hubfile that links all the chapters together and indicates where the volumes and parts will fall. With this my writers can produce and valdiate the required xrefs to link to data through out the entire tech manual. This satisfies the need to valdiate the links while auhtoring although it is slow.Note that I also produce an IETM from this content that uses XSLT to generate HTML and associated indexs to produce a purely electronic version. This is our current deliverable, we now want to add the PDF version from this same source and break the PDF up into volumes that have linked cross-references and bookmarks. Our publishing engine that process the XML file needs the DTD to be loaded on the server and wants the server path in the SYSTEM idenitifer of DOCTYPE. Hi all,The editor is giving us an error message that "supTag is not allowed in Ttag", but it is allowed with our DTD and it shows up in the insert markup dialog box for the user to pick. I have looked at the FOSI and the DCF file to see if those might be changing the behavior, but I have not seen anything.version 5.2 M020Any ideas?Thanks, Ellen

PTC issued TPI 146734 today which specifies Windows 7 certified support for Arbortext 5.4 patch M030. What surprises me is this additional information: "Windows 7 support is not planned for earlier releases of Arbortext Editor, Architect, or Styler." Does anyone else find this a little short-sighted? We're first moving to Arbortext 5.3 in June (tied to the level supported in our CMS). Seems like we'd be in trouble if our company upgrades everyone to Windows 7.Has anyone tried 5.3 in Windows 7?Dave HintzSiemens

Hello,We would like to use the arbortext change tracking markup information to generate various output in our publishing system. We had noticed that <atict> does not append tags when edits are made again in the same location by the same user in different time. I give up!I have an element that seems to be spanning the two columns when I don't want it to span. I have span=2 on this element and it's parent element. I have balance set to off. Is there another tag that causes something to break across the two columns?I have tried every combination that I can think of.Thanks,Ellen

Can I display a non-table on the screen?Arbortext FOSI Reference PDF talks about translating non-table data into an informal table (page 120 - and the example runs off the page).I can turn on gen text tags and the tags look great. Turn the tags off and I get the data I want, one row per line as <table>, one entry per line as <informaltable>. I've been customizing Arbortext Editor for clients for over 6 years now and I've never been able to figure this out.We have several custom toolbars. I understand that toolbar location config info is saved automatically by Arbortext on close to a wcf file. However, there are times when those settings aren't remembered the next time an editing session is started. I could live with this. The more annoying problem is when a user opens Editor and the toolbars are fine (where he set them the last session), but then he opens a 2nd document (both the same doctype) and the toolbars are off. As in a toolbar that should be aligned to the left now begins about mid-window, pushing any other toolbars on that toolbar row even further right. Sometimes a toolbar will be kicked off to a row by itself. Am I missing something? In November 2009 I stopped all of my regular work to start learning Arbortext because my boss wanted to see if I can implement the solution...totally. I've been working through some proof of concepts pretty successfuly up until now and I'm still searching for a way to make my next proof of concept work. I've also been talking with an outside vendor to get us up and running quicker. I do know how to use Arbortext to a point. You also need to know that we are a two person shop.I am more than conversant with HTML and CSS. I understand XML and DTDs to a point and style sheets for XML a bit. I've been a software tech writer for a gazillion years.I've seen different XMLimplementations, usually Framemaker, and the results but those implementations were completed at large companiesby outside vendors working with the publications staff.Here's my question. I'm starting to test Arbortext 5.4 M020, and I consistently get a"Arbortext Editor Debug Messages" window that pops up when I openArbortext that states, "Warning: Could not find the application's symbolfont. It will not be possible to display certain symbols and icons." I haven't found anything on the web or in the help files to resolve thisissue, nor have a found a way to suppress the message.
