On my Travels as a Pro/E trainer and head of Technology , I always find it interesting to see how schools are using Pro/E in Design and Technology lessons, and wondered if anyone would like to share there experinces. And feel free to post some pictures. For example Pupils start at our school aged 13 Year 9 and have a introduction to Pro/E looking at designing a Mobile Phone and Packaging.this is designed to allow them to understand the basic features so that they have a good grounding of the software to use towards there GCSE'sYear 10 Graphics, Resistance Materials and Systems/Electronics continue to build on there knowledge and understanding of the software buy using it as a design tool and not an after thought.so by year 11 they can use the software to help solve there design problems by creating innovative Design Solutions. So which some pupils just couldn't draw by hand. This trend is then continued in to the 6th form.Of course all this can only work with a broad curriculu
Can WF 5.0 Schools Edition be productively used for architectural drawing? I don't do architectural drawing myself, so I do not know the differences between that and the engineering modeling that usually seems to be done with Pro/Engineer.I am on a committee to look at technology upgrades to our school's industrial arts program, and we are currently using AutoCAD 2000, which is now a decade old but still runs under Windows XP... haven't tried Windows 7 with it yet...There are discussions about upgrade options, and a major problem with the latest version of AutoCAD is that AutoDesk has no pity or remorse for charging schools an arm and a leg for their product.Having Pro/E free to K-12 schools certainly helps it along in terms of access vs cost, especially with the billion dollar cut to education that governor Walker is planning for Wisconsin schools, but still there is the question of whether Pro/E can fulfill all the needs of the old AutoCAD 2000.Can Pro/E be used to easily create and
I just downloaded the Wildfire 5.0 Schools Edition today, to do the education tutorial so we can get our district licensed.I am currently just playing with the software, though I know a bit about CAD programs so I understand the basics.,I have found a definite, repeatable crash in the software using the example models included with the basic installation.Environment: - Windows XP 32-bit SP3 - Intel Q9450 / Quad Core2 2.66ghz / 4 gig RAM - nVidia GTX 285 1024 meg - 32 bit install of Wildfire 5.0 Schools Edition, date code M040Steps to reproduce:1. Run the software2. Open example assembly "cam_follower.asm" in: C:\Program Files\ProENGINEER Schools Edition\demos\demo\mdx\tutorial33. Don't do anything to the assembly or view, leave everything at defaults.4. Go to Analysis menu, "Motion Analysis"5. Don't choose anything here, just click Run button 7 times.Everything looks good.6. Click Run button the 8th time...Oh dear, the follower has spun around on a weird axis, flipping so it is now per
Dear PTC I am Richard Christopher Gingras Jr, I am a student at Agawam High and I am on the school's F.I.R.S.T. Robotics team, Rosie Robotics Team 839. I am currently the team's Director of engineering (Student who oversees all engineering process within the team) and the software my fellow students and I use to CAD the parts for our robot is PRO Engineer 5.0. We also use Windchill to store our files so we have access to them were ever we meet. My experience with your CAD software did not start with using PRO E on the robotics team, but using PRO Desktop in 8th grade were I excelled at using the program, and I got hooked to designing parts and objects on a computer. I then went on to high school joining Rosie and continuing to design parts on the computer, but instead I moved to PRO E, and continued to get better at CAD and improving my design skills. Now I am the team's lead designer and the one who students and mentors go to with questions about design and PRO E. I am currently plani

Hey guys, I have a copy of the Student Edition of Widlfire 5 from my university which came with Mechanica Lite.I was wondering if it is possible, and if it is what the steps are to do so, to display the analysis results of multiple designs in the same window? By this I mean say I wish to compare the maximum shear stress generated in two different options for a joint, am I able to compare the two designs in the same window? Thanks in advance
Hi folks,I know of a team that is interested in using Pro/E for FRC up in Portland, Oregon (Lake Oswego). I was wondering if anybody knew of other teams in that area that use Pro/E, or perhaps if there are any engineers that use Pro/E in the area that are interested in mentoring? Thanks,Josh
Hi all,Just an intro here, and perhaps a question or two.I'm Peter Martel, a lead mentor of Wapack Youth Robotics in NH.Came here to learn and see how PTC is being used, especially in FTC.I'd love to see an FTC sub-community to the FIRST community.I'm very curious how many folks are using Windchill for project management, and also how other folks are using PTC in general. One of the reasons I like FTC is because there is actually enough time for more kids to actually use these products, even to learn how to use them during the season. Please share your thoughts and info about your usage of PTC.Peter
It was the first time I had seen a lot of excitment in the class. I had more kids volunteer to sit and learn than I could coach on one laptop. I will rotate the other kids in to train next time I go to their classroom.I created and showed them several demos on the projector from simple to complex: Checking size and dimensions of parts, and will they fit into available envelope A simple assembly motion analysis to check for interferences A four bar kinematic analysis in promechanism with several motors and gears A dynamic analysis with the FTC baton getting lifted out of its dispenser and rolling down 2 ramps with gravity and 3 cam definitionsQuick render of one assembly:
What kind of challenges do you face in the product development process? What is the need for process training? How is process training different than feature function training?Darcy Parker discusses some of today’s most popular product development challenges and how these challenges shape the need for process training. Do you experience any of these? http://bit.ly/hC4geA
In today’s celebrity culture it’s easy to appreciate why the average teenager might believe their only options in life are MTV or the NBA. Introducing children to new experiences and perspectives can redefine how they perceive themselves and their role within society.FIRST Robotics Competition aims to break through cultural stereotypes and put the cool back into engineering and science. Each year high school teams from all over the United States and around the world are tasked with building a robot from a kit of parts that will be able to perform a specific set of tasks in competition. The national playoffs take place late April in St. Louis.Last Friday and Saturday saw the Seattle Cascades and Olympic Regionals at Qwest Field, Seattle, Washington (right in my backyard). I was lucky enough to be able to get a firsthand look at the competition. Entering Qwest Field I couldn't help but be taken aback by the sheer number of people and astounding noise level. The competition was well under
Hi!A week ago i installed the pro e 5.0 schools edition, and I was quite pleased with the new outfit, but when I got to the 2D drawing I found myself in some trouble...I am using a german version, so it could happen that I do not use the terms which are used in an english version of pro e.1) how to view axes? I think I once found the right button by accident, but since then, I didn't find it again...2) when I insert a dimensioning the value is directly between the arrows. But i want to have it above the dimensioning line. This is, what it looks like at the moment: And this is how I want to have it look like:3) again dimensioning: this time I want to have the values turned around: Make this: ...looking like that:4) Last but not least: how can I change my model from "shade" to "visible edges", "invisible edges" or "wire frame" (I guess i didn't use the right terms here, even I do hope you know what I mean)Thanks for answering. In fact I really like pro engineer, but at the moment I'm ki
So anyway, I am launching into trying to figure out toolpaths, not knowing at all what I'm doing, hacking away at it anyway. Managed to create a very simple workpiece and constrain it to something-or-other.It appears I next need to tell WF 5.0 what the capabilities are of our schools milling machine.I have been doing some intense Googling for GPH device definitions for the Intelitek spectraLIGHT 0200 Mill, but either none of the other of the thousands of schools out there with this mill has ever tried doing this before, or sharing of Pro/E GPH's isn't a very widespread activity. Here are all the various device specs, from the company's product page:http://www.intelitek.com/ProductDetails.asp?Product_ID=2&CategoryID=10&Industrial=&Education=yes&Specification=yes&category_str_id=1;10The attached GPH and XML file is what I've tried to figure out so far, but I have no idea how correct this definition is. Tool compensation? What is that? Also, I do not yet have exact meas
As I am learning Creo I noticed that when I apply the Hole Tool to a surface all apprears to be working, but I can't finalize the drawing by selecting the green check mark. All other buttoms alongside the check mark work fine, but selecting it doesn't complete the hole. This makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong, the installation wasn't complete or it is a bug of some sort. Whatever the case, I need to get it fixed and am hoping someone in this community can help me.Thanks for your time.Kurt
I have the student version of Creo 5 installed on my computer and am now trying to learn it as best as I can. Although I understand that this is a large undertaking, many of the files that are needed to follow online help tutorials won't open in non-commercial versions. This makes some sense to me, but I was hoping that there are similar tutorials or help files that will work with the student version. Could someone please help me find something like what I need? Thanks. It seems that the student version would be more likely to need such tutorials and online videos for assistance in learning Creo5.Pleae include any information you feel would help me learn Creo in the proper sequence.I have attached the tutorial reference files that won't open with the student version.Thanks.Kurt

As some of you know, I'm a judge for FRC. This year I had the honor of being a Regional Chairman's Award judge at the Granite State Regional in Manchester, NH. I reviewed 18 submissions and interviewed the same number of teams. These teams continue to amaze me with not only their technology prowess but, more importantly, the amazing work they do in their communities, their state, the country, and the world. They take the mission of spreading the word of FIRST very seriously. I met teams that help their low-income community members winterize their homes, create baby blankets for adoption agencies, set up and run summer camps for kids interested in learning how to build Lego robots, raise money for the burn victims, and built an icebot for their fire department to assist with risky rescues. The winner of the RCA in NH was Team 166, Chop Shop. Listen to the short video announcing the team... you can hear them in the background as it dawns on them
I'm having issues installing the latest Student Edition of Creo Elements/PRO 5.0. At the beginning of this semester (almost two months ago), I was able to seccessfully install and use the Wildfire Student Edition on my desktop PC at home. It runs very well. However, I picked up a new laptop a couple weeks ago, and I'd really like to do work in places other than my room, but my installation gets to 1 or 2 percent and it freezes with the status of "copying files." I've tried leaving it alone for a couple hours to see if it improves, but it doesn't. The second green bar is full (100% download supposedly), but when the install freezes, I have to manually close the program from the Task Manager. I've tried multiple configurations and have uninstalled/installed many times and have even created a second account in an attempt to troubleshoot, but I'm having no luck.I'm running Windows 7 on the laptop (64-bit). The PC with the working copy is running Windows XP. Has anyone else had a similar ex
