Has anyone done an upgrade from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012 for Windchill? I know that when I'm done, I'll have to run the collation conversion but my question is do you have to install 2012 separately and import the database or can you run the "SQL Upgrade" to upgrade the database instead? The book is saying the first, but I'm wondering if the second works.

Hello,I am trying to rename a system and running into this problem. The system is a clone of production that will be a test system. Windchill 10.2 M030 CPS-11. With Technical Support Help from Case 13692115, we have created a report to find all CAD objects that failed to publish in the Windchill Publisher within an entered date range. The issue I couldn't solve was that my report was finding objects in user's workspaces...the attached reports resolve the issue so the output does not include modified CAD objects residing in user's workspaces. In our use case, we delete all failed objects from the WVS Job Monitor list on Saturday Night and we didn't have an easy way to find these objects after the fact. This report enables us to find those. The second report, will find those objects that failed in the publisher but are checked out in user's workspace. After user's check in objects, they often check them back out to make further changes. Report was developed and tested in WC10.1. Test in your environment before putting into Production. I am attempting to create my own custom workflow email notification template and I'm confused about the right way to use methods for dynamic text inside the template. In the help documentation it show the methods inside (what I think are) comments. I am working through a cloning rehost to get a 10.0 m040 system that I can do test work on.I installed Oracle on its machine and run the PTC Setup for Oracle.Installed Windchill on its machine.OOTB Windchill can be started.Did a drop user PDM and Create_user PDM on the Oracle machineImported the Oracle dump from my production machine.Imported the LDIF backup from production.Ran the rehost utility with I think proper settings.When I look at the site.xconf file on both machines, it does not match.Does the rehost utility copy the wt.properties and other *.properties files from the source to the target machines when it runs?There is no mention of copying these files in the rehost guide, yet without them, the target machine is not a complete rehost.Any insights on what files should be manually copied over? There are a lot of *.properties files, so maybe just the site.xconf should be copied, edited for node name and then propagated.Does the Rehost Guide need to be revisied to add this inform
Last December Daktronics brought the first of many Quality processes into Windchill from Infopath, Nonconformance. There were many things to figure out but one of those things was the capturing of reporting location (which manufacturing line, value stream, or area is reporting this NC). We decided to capture it in the ncCategoryCode classification tree. This has been working great and now we are moving onto our second Quality process to migrate into Windchill from Infopath, Temporary Deviation Report (or Deviation as Windchill would call it). Since this is a Quality owned process, we're going to have some growing pains considering the differences between Change objects and Quality objects. In this example Change Associations are used to define that a Prototype CN (Soft typed) will have a single Change Task - Prototype Change Task that is defined as the default change task for this type of Change Notice. With Windchill 11.0 M010 and onwards you can define which Change Task types are allowed and created for a type of Change Notice. This is allow followed with Change Task templates. Together this helps to error proof your process and reduce clicks for the user.
I am looking to publishing a stand alone AE floating note from creo to windchill control characteristics on a W2 part. This will allow the notes to be published to MCAD to be used in a process plan step. I have gotten this note to show up in Creo view as a floating note but doesn't show in the control characteristics tab on the process plan. Is there a specific windchill setting that needs to be set to allow any control characteristic to be used downstream? All GD&T shows on the process plan steps but not the floating note. See Figure 1 for creation of control characteristic in Creo. See figure 2 attached for view when selecting AE floating note in creo view. Again, this is seen in creo view, but not process plan step.
Is there a way to associate a newly created part to a specific 'variable'; where later we can use this 'variable' to filter all new parts and export the list to a table.
I have a little bone to pick with publishing in PDMLink.It turns out that every once in a while we come across a drawing that was not published correctly. One of my users came across a previous version that had a wrong published view. I did some investigation and this is what happened.There is a drawing and part model with revisions from 1 to 7. This user was looking at rev 1 because they were looking at the history of the part. Rev 1 of the drawing has iterations 1-4. Rev 1 of the model has 1-2..drw version 1.3 was checked in with .prt 1.2.Then the .drw was checked in one more time alone and created 1.4.As I mentioned already there were subsequent revisions done to these files and several were all done prior to us migrating from Intralink to PDMLink. Once we migrated we obviously published all our files.Here is the problem.Because the .drw version 1.4 was checked in without its model it wouldn't pull up the latest iteration of revision 1 of the mode
We have a custom publish service, and are having issues with records not being retrieved in the order they are written.There are a number of "batch" processes that use a global transaction to process all data in the batch. When this happens, the individual records are not committed until the entire batch is processed. But since we are running a multi-threaded (multiple MS on multiple app servers) environment, other threads write to the table and commit immediately.Then when a read request is received, the read is based on the last transaction ID sent from the app. When the uncommitted records exist, they end up being skipped.Has anybody dealt with how to ensure publishes to downstream systems happen in the proper order, especially when dealing with batch and interactive processes at the same time?
Hi ,Can someone help me on this ! I have created an action for a wtdocument . in the url i have given the jsp which will fetch input as json data stored as .txt and print the output as visual representation with circles and arrows . i have saved that .txt in the directory where class files are saved.I'm not able to view the output with the supplied input . However jsp prints normal text if i click the action . somethings wrong with fetching the input and processing it inside of jsp. Regards,Soundarya.
I am very new to Windchill but familiar with other PDM software. We have a relatively "nested" standard folder structure for projects in order to capture all possible aspects of a typical construction project. Many of the subfolders are empty, which makes browsing for files and searching for old information very cumbersome.Ideally, I think the folder structure should change to something with fewer child folders, but that is a long-term goal I have that will take some time/convincing.Is there a way to 'hide' folders/subfolders that have no objects inside to make browsing in the table view easier? I see that one can create custom table views, but I don't see that file size or number of objects inside a folder is really an attribute/criteria that can be set to filter out.Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.Thanks!Colin

Hello,In the "Visualization Configuration Administration" UI in the Utilities of Windchill, I had set the .xml file so as to have additional files (pdf for drawings, step for parts and asm) to be created in the default representation of the publisher, that can be easily and quickly downloaded without having to manually make additional representations every time.They are obviously supposed to automatically update if the part/drw is modified and checked-in (according to the "Latest" logic).The problem I have now is that, after modification and check in, while for drawings it's all ok (the thumbnail updates, and so does the associated pdf), for the parts instead the thumbnail updates but not the additional files (step and iges), which are not available any more for downloading: If want them, I have to re-publish the default representation.I enclose a video which shows this. I'm on my Windchill upgrade journey from 10.2 to 11.0. Currently we are on SQL Server 2008 SP1. Our goal is to get to SQL Server 2016.I'm thinking about taking the general steps below to get there.Upgrade from 2008 to 2012 in 10.2 environmentOn database server for 11.0, install SQL 2016Upgrade from 10.2 SQL 2012 to 11.0 SQL 2016I was wondering if anyone else has taken this journey? I was at the recent Windchill Infrastructure TC meeting and the subject of DTI came up. It seems a large set of companies were having issues with DTI becoming unstable as MS Office and Windows patches were applied. Is anybody able to share experience with DTI and what sort of patching is problemattic?
Hi,Is there an API through which I enumerate the list of all available groups in my Windchill. I'm able to do this through an Oracle Query from the Database but still would like to know if this can be achieved through any available API, rather than going through the process of having a read only account for Database and resolving the Database query from my code.Thanks in advance!Amarkarthi
