It's been brought to my attention a particular problem with the PDF documents I create from Arbortext v9.1. Accented characters are not searchable in the PDF documents (é, è, ç, et cetera). Are there output settings that I can modify or adjust and then test? Has anyone else come across this problem?
I had an evaluation copy of Editor and Architect (along with a lot of other editors) a few years ago at the start of my PhD research on the usability of XML editors. I now need to run my test harness on the same set of software as a final update, to ensure I am not misrepresenting any product, but I am unable to download a second evaluation copy (error message says "You have entered an invalid product code" although there was nowhere to enter any code). It advises me to use www.ptc.com/olm/contacts.htm but all the phone numbers given for non-US users (me) are the same number (!) and all of them are unobtainable because they are 0-800 numbers which cannot be dialled from another country (and my local one for Ireland is invalid). I managed to get a number for the Munich support centre, but they are either permanently busy or the ringing times out. Is there an email address I can contact someone in PTC on for this enquiry? Hi All, I am interested in organising the "Arbortext 'Classic' User Group Meeting in the UK" as we haven't had one for quite a while and things have moved on a bit in regards to technology and PTC/Arbortext as an organisation. This email is an early warning of the intention to organise this and a call for ideas of what people would find useful and interesting in terms of logistics and content, e.g. When should we do it? Where should we do it? How long should it last? What should be the focus? Which guest speakers should we invite? All suggestions and ideas welcome. Cheers Peter Li Simonsoft UK Limited www.simonsoftuk.com peter.li@simonsoftuk.com +44 7753 915 609
Ed, No joy. Cleared .aptcache on my machine, and the temp folder referenced in the error messages on the PE server.Steve Thompson +1(316)977-0515
I don't know about PE, but sometimes with Print Composer, we would get strange error messages when the .aptcache folder got too big. Deleting everything in the .aptcache folder would often fix this. This was a few years ago, with older PC's, so it might not be a problem today.Just a shot in the dark.
Anyone recognize this and/or know what's actually wrong?(Text from Composer Log dialog. Typed, not pasted, since that would get all the tagging, too)Compose JDF_FIM_...-chk.xml for pdf.ERRORError response from e3: message='Failed to open document 'C:\WINNT\TEMP\e3temp_...\x20.xml' with flags '636' using stylesheet '(null)'.Exception error = '[A15000] Unable to load document type due to errors parsing DTD: "C:\Program Files\Arbortext\PE\custom\doctypes\fim\fim.dtd".
Hello,I am getting "validating Module Namespace warning everytime I open a document. I believe it is because of the stylesheet that I have created. The description of the error is:Inconsistent Prefix Usage Detected in Module: '<mystylesheetfilename>' Original Prefix: 'xsi' Original URI: 'xsi' Used Prefix: 'xsi1' Used URI: 'xsi'I do not have multiple modules in my style file. Is this something that I can hide or I can fix?Karthik
Is there a way to make Arbortext Editor show em and en spaces as a special tag or an entity tag rather than just as the space at its correct width? I know when I use Format>Touchup>Hard Unbreakable Space from the menu, I get a visible _hardspace in the document view. I need some visual cue for ems and ens so at a glance I know which is being used. Thanks, Rita Graham
I'm still working the 38,000 pager - thanks for the help so far guys! Got me in the ballpark. One issue is the PE not finding graphics. Not sure why it is an issue if Editor can find it, then PE should, too, or get it from the Editor client...isn't that what it says in the PE PDF?PTC has me editing the document on the PE server with PE services turned off - that helps...get a few more error messages...like lost graphics (graphics randomly showing up - different graphics with every print!) I coded the path to the graphics directory in Tools | Preferences | Files | Graphics and that seemed to fix it - but that only works on a local machine. How do I tell the PE where the dozens of graphics directories are? Preferably without having to update every graphic with a public identifier. Can I use the catalog file to map to the directories without mapping to each graphic?Take this for example:A network graphic location - G:\TM 9-2355-319-10\Graphics\CHAPTER 3\ABSio.wmfThe local location on the P
Hello,In our DTD we are using <emphasis> element for font styling which has a attributed variant=bold|italic|normal|bolditalic. I modified the textstyles in the DCF file to these elements. My question is how can I made bold and italic to the attribute value bolditalic i.e., when the user click both bold and italic it should tag <emphasis variant="bolditalic">. For underline we have another attribute called underline=yes|no. So when the user want bold and underline and if he clicks both bold and underline options in ArborText the tag should be <emphasis variant="bold" underline="yes">.Karthik
Hi,In the last month, my McAfee VirsuScan software as quarantined the pstill.exe from both my ArborText 5.2 and 5.3 installations. It even quarantined the zips of the 5.2 & 5.3 software installation packages. It says something about detecting an "Artemis Trojan". I was just curious if other Adepter's virus software is flagging these files. Given that those files have been on my PC for months or years, I think it's a false detection by McAfee's Artemis Technology system. But, it's disconcerting that it is quarantining and would eventually delete files from legitimate software product. Thanks,Curtis
Hi, all....When creating DITA maps in Arbortext 5.4 M010 on Windows, when using the Resource Manager to insert <topicref> elements and <chapter> elements, the href attribute includes backslashes in the path. This is incorrect according to the DITA spec. All hrefs should be URIs, and thus forward slashes should be used.Is there an option somewhere to fix this?If so, and I set it, will Arbortext be able to find files on Window when file paths are with slashes?ThxSteveHYPERLINK " \nOracleSteve Fogel | Information Architect, Oracle Database| 650.506.4914Oracle Server Technologies Information Development500 Oracle Parkway | M/S 4op1126 | Redwood Shores, CA 94065

Hi All,I'm back with yet more questions. I've created a template for our manual request form (again, thank you all) and I've created a small text entity file to try. I inserted the information and renamed the file to go with our product, CP Python. I closed the file and opened it again. It appeared with all of the formatting gone until I attached the style sheet. The style sheet is not named CP Python but it is manual_request.styler. Before I attached the style sheet I checked to see if the text entity file was there and it was not. When I attached the style sheet, I checked again and it was there. Why is that? How can I make sure that a particular style sheet is attached to a document even if the file names don't match? Are the text entity file and the style sheet connected somehow? If I have 18 files that all use the same style sheet and text entities, can I update the text entities in any of those files and have all 18 files update?Next, what I want to do for our manual requests for
We are about to run a 38,000 page book through the PE.Has anyone done a book that big before?Anyone have a clue as to hardware requirements? RAM? Pagespace settings? Have a guess as to how long it will take?John T. JarrettBAE Systems | Arbortext version 5.4 | LOGSA XSL-FO v 1.5
Hello,We use some inline tags like <null> and <placeholder> in our tables. These tags are styled differently to show on the document which appears right in all parts of the document except tables. They indeed appear the way that I styled them to show but it appears with the tags. I am not getting the correct table view of the document because of this.
This is a little off the track of a pure Adepters question, so if it's appropriate to send me to an internet discussion group somewhere, feel free to suggest one for that. I looked a little and couldn't locate one. So, I thought perhaps one of the experts in document processing monitoring this forum might be able to provide some help. Under the Arbortext Editor's JVM, we are able to use an AOM Acl.func("tag_has_attr", elementName, attributeName, docID) call to test whether the DTD for an XML source file says a named attribute is applicable to a named element. We have need to do that test running under a free standing (non-editor) jdk1.5.0_15 JVM where we're currently using the org.w3c.dom and javax.xml.parsers java packages to process XML source files looking for concerns in them. However, the DOM classes only appear to provide functions for inspecting whether an instance element in a DOM instance document has an attribute value either physically specified or has it defaulted with a val
Hi again,I searched and didn't find an answer.... How do you get a title to wrap nicely before the page number when you have a very long title?I haven't tried it yet, but might an alignment group work? This also might be a "problem" in the index when you have term wrapping.Has anyone else solved this problem before? Thanks,Ellen
Is it possible in java (with a mixture of ACL if needed) to convert a DOM document object to a string (without writing the document to a file and reading the file in)? To a certain extent I can do this, but a couple of things are causing problems. I want the string to have the xml declaration and (less important) the processing instruction Arbortext adds ( like ). And most importantly, I need the resulting string to have only user-specified attributes, no DTD/Schema provided defaults. And by attributes, I mean both true element attributes as well as "attributes" to Arbortext-specific processing instructions like _font and _touchup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Brian Jensen bjensen@bluelid.com
Adepters:Can Styler 5.3 resolve number styles (e.g., 1., a., etc.) for nestedsteps in a procedure when cross-referencing? It seems that no matterwhich level the id occurs, Styler only resolves the number of thehighest level nested step in the cross-reference. Given the following markup:<step1> <para>This is step 1.</para> <step2 id="stp-020"> <para>This is step a.</para> </step2> <step2> <para>This is step b.</para><step1> <para>Go back and do step <xref idref="stp-020"/"></para>I'd like the following output:1. This is step 1. a. This is step a. b. This is step b.2. Go back and do step a.But Styler generates:1. This is step 1. a. This is step a. b. This is step b.2. Go back and do step 1.Why? Is there a limitation in Styler which prohibits it from resolvingnested step id references using the number style associated with thatlevel? What's funny is that double-clicking the generated text in thexref repo
Good Morning Everyone,I am using Epic Editor 5.3M60 and a fosi.I have subparas where the title is optional .The problem is that these subparas report to the toc.It is driving me nuts. I can't figure out how to tell the fosi, that if title doesn't follow the para tag, do not report to the toc.Any suggestions.[cid:image001.png@01CAB540.8D6A0370][cid:image002.png@01CAB540.8D6A0370]Sindy YoungAWACS Tools and Technology Team,(253) 657-6964Kent, WA 98032
Hello,I have attributes called desktop, cycle, show etc., in my atict tags. These are currently fed into the XML file through an external transform program. When I try to open the xml file in ArborText after running this transform it shows the following error:*** Error on line 22 in file Q:\NextGen_3A\Cycle_1\01 For XPP Composition\01 Clean\10-1111-20.xml:[A11053] Unrecognized attribute "desktop" for tag "atict:add"*** Error on line 22 in file Q:\NextGen_3A\Cycle_1\01 For XPP Composition\01 Clean\10-1111-20.xml:[A11053] Unrecognized attribute "cycle" for tag "atict:add"Since these attributes are not defined in atict it throws up the error. Can someone advise which file should I modify to add these attributes.Karthik
Hi All,I can't find where forms are supported and that's fine. I don't need true forms with drop-down lists and check boxes. What I do need is something that can simulate a form so that our customers can fill it out by hand and send it to us. We have this form in Word 18 times; one for each product. I thought that I would create the forms and use an Entity List to insert the information we need to include so the customer can order books and print it to PDF with the correct information. The items in the list won't change very often. In Word, I would do it using a table and turning borders on and off as well as adjusting cell widths independently from the table. I've been trying that for two hours in Arbortext and can get it to work to a point. My biggest problem is a border around the table. I figured how to turn borders on and off using the attributes dialog box from the tree view (I don't remember the official name). I can't figure out how to manipulate the cell widths independently or
Hello,When we first publish documents for our clients it will be cycle 1. Clients review and mark changes and in that case it will be cycle 2 and increments there after until there are not edits in the document. We had modified ArborText change tracking tags to have"cycle" attribute to it. Using an external transform program we input the cycle information into the XML file on all change tracking markups. In addition our DTD has <document> as a root element which also as a cycle attribute. This cycle information is pulled from our CMS that tell the file what is the latest cycle. Here is the sample.Original source in cycle 1:This is a text from initial cycle.Original source XML markup:<para>This is a text from initial cycle.</para>Cycle 2 edit - replace the existing text with 'This is a text from cycle 2':<strike>This is a text from initial cycle.</strike> This is a text from Cycle 2.Cycle 2 XML Markup<para><atict:del>This is a text from initial c
