Arbortext

My company is replacing Adobe Acrobat with Nuance PowerPDF. Currently we set our default printer to "Adobe PDF" and Arbortext creates a PDF file after composition. I have a few questions:1. We get Acrobat Distiller with our Acrobat installation. When I set my default  printer to "Adobe PDF" is Distiller being used? I can't see how it is connected to Distiller. I uninstalled Distiller and Acrobat and I was still able to compose PDF files from Arbortext Editor. I am trying to ensure that when we lose Acrobat and Distiller we will still be able to compose to PDF; I don't know why I still can compose PDF without Distiller installed. Perhaps "Adobe PDF" is actually a different program? The Printer Properties don't tell me anything.2. Has anybody ever used Nuance with Arbortext Editor? If so, could you tell me how to set it up.We have an ancient system (5.3) that was installed before my time, sp there is a lot I don't know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

We are looking into adding hot spots to our images used in our online parts catalog system. Currently we supply a third party with pdfs and they add hotspot info to the images they create from the pdfs. What sort of process is it to create hotspots for an illustration. We looked the PTC tutorial and all the parts are individiaul not grouped together. If you use hotspots can you still have your image linked back to the source? Our process curently is that we use jt files and place them onto the open idr file, explode and make it presentable, add callouts, export to CGM.Any guidance would be appreciated.Bryon

When I try to open an element in Astoria Workbench, Arbortext opens a pathname instead of the actual content. Why would this be? I am working on a virtual desktop that accesses a remote server.

I am setting the "Vertical adjust amount" property to an attribute for which the element is a graphic. The graphic is aligning correctly when publishing to PDF with FOSI engine, however, when publishing with APP engine it is not using the attribute to set the "Vertical adjust amount" and therefore, the graphic is appearing incorrectly. I have searched the documentation but there is no specific mention as in how to set the "vertical adjust amount" in APP. Any help will be appreciated.

Our corp comm group just started using a service like widen to store images.  We are a long ways off from thinking about Arbortext so just collecting information for myself right now.

Hi, I was recently updated from IsoDraw 7.1 to  7.3.  I am no longer able to import IGES files from PTC Creo Parametric into the updated version on IsoDraw. Previously I would "save as" out of PTC with Surfaces selected in the Export IGES Geometry.  I was able to open that into IsoDraw 7.1 fine.  Now when I choose the same selection in IsoDraw 7.3 nothing appears when I open that file in IsoDraw, it is a blank screen.  When I export with Wireframe edges selected I am able to get that file to open in IsoDraw however it is unusable. Has anyone experienced the same issue? I have also noticed that several of the 3D tool options are missing from the tool bar, such as wireframe, HLR, Rendering, 3D select axis, etc. Those were all tools that I used. With 7.3 my tool list now displays with a 3D with a lock on it.  What does that mean?I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thanks for your time.

Can any one suggest how to do a program or set of instruction (like macro) which will show the errors in the authoring file (content) on running the program.Eg: The statement should be Correct: “put the unit in position”Wrong:  “put the unit in its position”If we use in its position in the authoring, it should show error

I know you can highlight it and choose edit, fit elements. This will center it but it will scale it to fit the square. Is there an automatic way to center the object on the page without scaling it?

Hello - The question I have deals with error detection within Arbortext.  Background:  I work in a group of 6 engineers that write service documentation using the SGML verion of Arbortext. This group includes a single book-boss, who is the most expert in SGML editor tools, including Arbortext.I typically work on small books (100 - 200 pages) that are combined into larger books that amount to in excess of 4,000 pages.  When the junior writers submit smaller files (IDE) to the book-boss, one task performed by the book-boss is to remove formatting problems and things that might cause problems with the book to build without error.  I recently submitted a small book (<100 pages) IDE file to the book boss that had a syntax error that was not detectable using the "Completeness Check" or "Green Checkmark" or the publishing tool used to build.It was discovered after three days of debugging at the larger book level (>4,000 pages) that the error I introduced was an extra

Just wondering, have a guy working on some S1000D screen FOSIs, but not being a FOSI guy or having ready access to styler, is there a way to open, for instance, the crewSchema.xsd as a doctype, and allow for opening a test doc to use the FOSI panels?Been goofing with directory structures, URI catalog entries, the closest I can get is doc arch will open the crewSchema without error, but errors when trying to open a test doc.Is this just a limitation of doc arch, or is there another way?thanks,-Jason

Hi All,I use Arbortext editor 6.0 M060, I can't set the promptnodtd to on because  i can't find it in the options list.It should be set to on by default, but  when I open a document without a doctype declaration, the editor open it  in free-form XML mode, without prompting for the dtd.Anyone can help me?thanksSonia

I currently have a FOSI that is failing to compile/print most of the times (but not all of the time).In the "formatter messages" window, the warning is "An empty page fault occurred."In the event log, the warning is "Error: Failure post-processing for composer type pdf.  FATAL ERROR: Operation terminated."and"ERROR: Runtime error formatting document: main:: Error='[A12627] Error: A fatal formatting error occurred.  Refer to the formatting faults log file "file name here"."The log file has been of no help.  I am unable to consistently get this FOSI to compile or fail at the same elements or point in processing, nor does it repeat with any other FOSI.Any ideas?

Hi All,We are using Arbortext Editor 6.0 M080 and create a contents by using DITA Task and publishing the PDF copies after adding to DITA BookMap.My requirement now is I have 2 different manuals to publish which is having common content and few instructions are different. I have created a DITA task with common content and different instructions for different manuals in the same file.Added this file to DITA bookmap but, I don't know how to publish manuals separately now? What is the conditions I have to define? I just had Arbortext Editor 7.0 installed today and wondering where my print preview is located?I can not locate on my local machine or installation disk. Is this file available for download?

  This works in AE 6.0, but not 6.1. AE can't find the graphic file. Hi,our users often copy and paste text from a pdf file into a xml file in Arbortext Editor 6.1.If they do this, they get the carriage return into xml, which is displayed like an arrow:Now we would like to search this carriage returns, which has the entity-code: 
Unfortunately we cannot search this returns. This is also not possible with the "find" command. The only way to find them, is the method with "find selection". But we also would like to replace them.Anybody an idea?Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,we work with the Arbortext Editor 6.1 and want to copy e.g. lists from a Winword document into the xml file. With a dcf file we can control how the Editor inserts this fragments into xml.Everything works like bold, italic and paragraphs. But in numbered lists we would like to insert the number as an attributeValue.Example:This is a list in Word:If we copy this list and insert into our xml file in Arbortext Editor, we get following structure:As you can see there is always "1." as attribute value inside the <item>-tag. This is because we have following entry in our dcf-file:Do you have an idea, if it is possible to insert the number which is countered in word into a xml attribute with an dcf-file?
