PTC Community Information Center

The PTC Community will be on read only status from September 2nd 1:00 AM EST to 12:00 PM EST for an update.  Please go here to see  local time for your geographic area.   Earlier this month, we shared on  IoT Tech Tips that the ThingWorx Dev Portal was retiring and the content was being migrated over to the PTC Community.    Please check back here on September 2nd (after 12:00 PM EST) for more details about the migration and an overall update to all our Community Tips boards.    Following the change, to undergo some changes which we will share here on this online community shortly thereafter  is  undergoing some changes.     There are some changes coming to the PTC Community which will be shared later this week.      

To register for the PTC Community,, you may register as a Partner, as an Education PTC  account holder,  a  Basic User, or  as a New Customer with your PTC Customer Credentials  (Customer #,SCN (Service Contract Number), SON (Sales Order Number) and Customer Site Number.   The eSupport  Knowledge article CS287536 provides information on how to find your customer credentials. Note:  PTC Employees always login with their SSO credentials username and single sign on password set by PTC. (i.e. jsmith without our domain -@ptc). Most users don't have access to their SCN, SON, or site number without consulting their system administrator.  For the purpose of this FAQ, we will focus on the Basic User registration. How to Register on the Community as a Basic User 1. Hi.Is there a way to add additional information to reported issue/article by someone else?For example https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS373596?source=SPR%20ViewerNo only v9.0 is affected but 7.0 as well.  It's just an example.

Is it just my view of the Community, or was it a global setting (not under my control) that changed the font of the text of postings in this community. I have some serious objections to the new font. There is NO discernable difference between a 0 and an o,  (those are a zero and a lower case o) and the difference between . and , (a dot and a comma respectively) is too small. Please change the font back to the previous one, or choose another font that clearly discerns 0 from o, , from . and i from l, 1 and I (this is a problem encountered in some other fonts).   Luc

Trying to search for "hide witness lines show arrows" returns results mostly centered around the word "with" - in 2022.   Googling "hide witness lines show arrows site:community.ptc.com" at least returns something relevant, even if not helpful.   Google is free - Creo costs me $3k a year - forgive me, but something doesn't add up here.   Sure you can "propose" changes - but PTC has never listened to anyone holding less than a few dozen seats and certainly doesn't care about anyone with only a handful - which seems to be much of the community. Maybe we'd be better served on stackexchange or something like that. I don't know the answer, but this community ain't it.

When searching for an idea, there is no indication whether the idea is active or archived or implemented until you have entered the post.  (see example images below) It would be helpful to include the status in the search window.   In the example image below, the second result in the search is exactly what I was looking for but upon clicking on the link, I learned that idea was archived, which makes it useless for my purposes.        

Specifically in Creo Parametric CAD   Within the customization forum mapkeys and UI customization controlled with the creo_parametric_customization.ui files should have a dedicated forums.   Currently mapkey and UI customization topics without the use of Toolkit are showing up in modeling and customization forums and there is no mapkey tag to make searches more efficient.

Is it possible to add additional information to the email headers? Currently, all email from addresses come through as: PTC Community <mailer@us.khoros-mail.com> What I would like to see is something like this: PTC Community-Creo <mailer@us.khoros-mail.com> or PTC Community-Windchill <mailer@us.khoros-mail.com> or PTC Community-MathCad <mailer@us.khoros-mail.com>   This would help organize the emails and allow us to open only those which pertain to subjects that we have knowledge of.

Is it just me who feels that the new default font and its grey color (at least it doesn't look black, maybe because its so thin) is less clear and less legible than it used to be?

The PTC Community Team is excited to announce the launch of our new community homepage this week!  In addition to a complete brand alignment uplift, the PTC Community Team has been working with UX designers to improve readability and better meet accessibility recommendations.  The updates are shared below.   The PTC Community is primarily an online support community.  Most visitors come to the community looking for help with their existing PTC products and services.   In an effort to help new (or soon to be) community members know our community purpose, we've updated our tagline to  "Ask and learn from PTC and Industry Experts."  New members can easily search the community directly from the homepage and find their favorite content via the navigation menu. I was recently viewing a Creo Parametric Tip. Is there anyway to adjust the speed of play to 1.25, 1.50, 1.75,... like you can with YouTube videos? I typically will watch something like this on either 1.25 or 1.50 speed. I'll slow down if someone speaks 500 words per minute with gusts up to 1000.

How exactly am I expected to exclude answers from 2014? 

Is the security alert for log4j still something that needs to be on the community? I'm just curious. Seems as if its "old news", in vunerability timeframes??

When I pasted the post into the body, the software decided it needed to fix my numbering on the topics:     So 9 became 11, 8 went to 12, so on and so forth. Is this a bug in the software? The login behaviour has changed so that after login we find ourself at the (rather useless) main start page and not in the forum we came from as it used to be. Thats very annoying! Could this be changed back to what it used to be. Even better as it used to be a much longer time ago when we could (without being logged in ) reply to a posting, automatically were redirected to the login mask and after login we found ourself exactly were we came from - the reply window and could immediately type our reply. I don't understand why usability gets worse with every change! It definitely should be the other way round. I understand the reason for the (far too large on computer screens) new login page - obviously a tribute to smartphone access and a sign that developers are too lazy (or don't have the resources) to maintain differently designed pages for different devices. This is seen quite often nowadays and we have to live with this I guess.But the place where we are redirected after the login

Some fairly short time after logging in, perusing the Community, deciding to work up a worksheet, I return to the board to find this (after a refresh):         Would it be possible to auto-login to the Community, as per the large majority of other boards that I use?   Stuart

I'm currently also trying to review all the published ideas (I'm on page 50 of 238). I also saw some of them that were repeated or could be merged, others already implemented, but I was not so methodic as @StephenW to take note of them and aid @olivierlp in the process. I'll try to do it going forward.

Please allow new ideas to be commented on for at least 4 years.  Post that are not even 6 months old are already being archived and not being considered for incorporation into PTC products.   who else is a little put off by PTC's new archiving rules?   Pro/e user since 1992

I understand PTC's motivation to reduce the clutter in the hopes of focusing on more value added activities, however I think it is unfortunate that we cannot reply, comment and make suggestions on the policy where it was posted (Read only), so will do so here.  I hope others will add their feedback here as well.  I sincerely hope this updated policy means that PTC has a renewed interest in implementing customer feedback...   It seems to me that the number of votes within a certain time period is an obvious place to start, however there are other factors I would really like to see addressed by PTC that may give it equal or greater importance. Idea activity Archiving policy should really account for commenting activity/discussions as well as the number of votes within a certain time period. For example, there may be lots of comments (and page hits) in the same year that it is decided to be archived, even though there may not be a lot of votes.  This activity should
