So I asked this question a few years ago without much success, but it's so frustrating on a daily basis that I need to bring it up again. Since I don't have a choice, I have learned to get along without the ability to rotate the viewing angle, or to create and save new views, but it's like getting used to driving a car with no reverse - yeah, you can do it if you have to, but it takes lots of extra time and planning, and it sure would make life a whole lot easier if I could just back up when I needed to.What I still don't understand is why the 4 standard isometric views are not included as options to rotate to - and - since they aren't availble, why there is no way to create and save new views. All I want is to be able to rotate the VIEW (or camera angle, or viewing perspective, or whatever you want to call it) in 90 degree increments around the model by simply clicking on a corresponding view button WITHOUT having to select everything and rotate the actual model (in exactly the same w
Trying to get an image to show on the inside of the cover page, this image will need to change depending on book published. I am in styler and using the sma portion of the program. Do I need to change the ufe:smainsidefrontcoverpage ? Under gentext, i have add the markup to use productgraphic and have also tested ufe:SMAproductgraphic. In my ditamap I have a productgraphic listing and have the href set to the graphic location. Nothing seems to show up unless I insert the graphic directly onto the ufe:smainsidefrontcoverpage.any help would be much appreciated.Bryon
We have Arbortext Editor 6, DITA, SMAWindchill 10New usersHow would we set up a reference type of document that is mostly tabular data, our "specification" document. Then, Include elements of data from the specification document in other "task" type of documents, i.e. test procedures? What type of include or referencing would we use?Conref does not seem to like the different element types.Thank you.Lisa A
Dumelang Please would you kindly assist. Client would like to: - build a master DITA glossary with a handful of entries- whenever he authors a new topic and uses a certain term for more than 3 times, that term should be flagged as a glossary entry in the current topic and then fetched from the master glossary and inserted into the map during assembly/publishing. Is this possible? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Kind regardsTshediso
In Arbortext 6.0, when I drag a topic from the Resource Manager into a ditamap, the resulting topicref includes the expected href attribute, but it ALSO includes a conref attribute, with the same value as the href attribute PLUS "/topic-title" tacked onto the end. Arbortext then pops up an error message like this: "[A12090] Document "C:\...\...xml\topic-title" doesn't exist."This happens in all cases, with any ditamap file and any component XML file. It makes the ditamap invalid and unbuildable. How can I get around this?
Hi,We have to use 5.3 for the upcoming year and I have a new install on a Windows 7 system. The use tried to download the 1.1 .NET framework SP 1 to support developing Import map templates. He received error messages, sorry I don't know what they say. I saw that 1.1 doesn't include Windows 7 support. Can we use a newer version?A second question. Any tips for modifications to work with Windows 7 would be appreciated. We had one issue with the license file going to VirtualStore that we fixed. Thanks!
I'm unable to insert a figure xref that generates a figure and page number when I create a pdf. What needs to be enabled/disabled in a stylesheet to be able to insert figure xrefs that generate a figure number and page number?
Hello,The usage of non-breaking space is more in our documents and our editor want to see this differently from a regular spaceband. Preferences are set to show spaces and tabs but it does not display non-breaking spacebands. Non breaking spacebands are inserted as .Is there a way that I can style this differently and show it in the editor view?ThanksKarthik
Not quite...There are not only different levels or versions of PDF, but there are also standards of PDF which are required for different consumers of the document. Each have their own specific requirements and each present their own challenges. I'm going to have a look at some of the requirements of PDF here and how using Arbortext products allow you to meet them.Lets start by looking at why you want to create a PDF in the first place. Some people are happy with just a plain old vanilla PDF. All they want is something that looks like a printed page so they can read it on their computer, stick it on a website or make paper copies. They're not too bothered about colour reproduction, download speeds, storage or accessibility. As long as it doesn't look rubbish, they're happy. That is fine. Nothing wrong with it at all. PDF is more than happy to give you this.But...What if you are bothered that the expensive glossy catalogue you've blown your marketing budget on looks as good as it can? Wha
Hi,I am wondering if there is a way to generate tool tips for XML elements using FOSI; similar to creating the generated text. I am also open for ACL options.Thank you.Regards,Uma Shankar
Adepters:Anyone know what this message means?***ERROR: Problem during DI map load.Or, better yet, where are messages like this documented? I searched everywhere I could think of and couldn't find that text. We're suspecting a byte-order-marker before the XML PI.Dave HintzSiemens
Arbotext CSDB for defence \ aerospace S1000D\S2000MThe version we have is 4.2 M39-4 Can you help me understand how the licensing works? Does the application get credentials just one time when the application is first opened, or are there repeated requests as each button is clicked, module opened.I need an answer specific to our version. The reason for asking is that weve experienced significant poor performance and wondering if there is an issue with the licence server response. Following a restart of the licence service performance improved dramatically..Julian
At work we have two seats of Isodraw (we are newbies) and we also have CS4 and currently there are three illustrators so one of us uses CS4 to create our art in then save down to Illustrator 8 and then we open in Isodraw and apply the callouts. The files then are saved as cgm's to use in Arbortext. The problem is when we open the files from illustrator in isodraw all of the ellipses are converted into beziers. Is there a setting to keep the ellipses? Thanks
Wow! Is it really that time already?

Hi again, sorry in advance for being a pain in the neck.I have a Definition List in Styler on a 2 col page (so 4 cols per page.) It needs to be indented left and right, and the Definition is supposed to left-indent if it wraps to a second or more lines. The Styler Indent Tab seems to be ignored. It was suggested I scrap this and use <algroup>. Also, how to get the heading to repeat across the column breaks?<acronymlist><term></term><def></def><term></term><def></def><term></term><def></def><term></term><def></def></acronymlist>It should look like this:Term Any advice is appreciated!Regards, Caroline
Tables are an exception case when it comes to WYSIWYG, which may or may not be related to tables being the spawn of the devil, as has been suggested. Atable preview sounds like a great feature.Suzanne

Several of our users are complaining that tables in the Editor view don't look like they do when composed in a print preview. Tables have no identation in our editor view but they have the standard 1" margin when you do a print preview and I was wondering if there was any way to have the indentation in the Editor view as well, as well as make it more WYSIWYG looking. I know it's last century technology 🙂
Hi all,I am a beginner, a bit overwhelmed with creating my first stylesheet. I know I will have to use FOSI eventually but I am trying to get as much done in Styler first. I was wondering if there is an XPath override to capture the previous element's generated text title number in Styler? I was only able to retreive the title without the number. My element title numbers are restarting at 1 and I would like them to +1 from the previous element's number. Also, can one output the title number after the element content in Styler, or will I have to do a FOSI edit with a text variable?I'm using 5.3.Thanks for any help!Regards, Caroline
Hi all,We've found that some of our more technically adventurous authors have been creating local copies of XML DTDs (faster if working from home than logging on over VPN). This is highly undesirable for obvious reasons. Given some people's apparent readiness to hack the doctype declaration to point to their own copy of the DTD, is there anything we can do to prevent this? How can we, for example, give authors read access to the DTD on the network drive without at the same time giving them the ability to copy it (Read=Copy)? As XML files are "just text" they are eminently hackable? Since they can always go outside Arbortext I guess this cannot be solved by any scripting solution? Binary XML, anyone? (just kidding!)
Good morning,I am using Isodraw 7.1, below is the whole task and the help section is my main query. I should be able to make the rest fo the macro.TaskI need to find a text element with certain text inside and then check the distance between this text element and the next text element directly below this. If the distance does nto match a specific number then it needs to be modified.HelpDoes anyone know if it is possible to detect the next text element directly below the currently selected text element? Can the distance between these 2 text elements be measured?Thank you for your timeAlan
I have a model loaded into CADProcess that has 125 main objects with thousands of sub-objects.They are not in alphabetical order so I have to do a search every time I need to look one up - does anyone know a way to change the order of the objects displayed in the object window?
Hi Ed!Here are some excerpts from my book. Also, search for Xpath in the PDF atSome XPath expressions, such as the following, require traversal of some or all of the document whenever the expression is evaluated at run-time.
