I'm editing a document using Arbortext 5.4, CPA 1.6. Trying to delete a new column command that was probably input with Format-Touch Up and keep getting a message: "Cannot allow a change where neither CPA change markup nor change attributes are allowed."How do I get rid of this command?
Hi All,I guess this quesiton is pretty basic but it is keeping me busy. I want to compose a pdf from the system command line in batch mode.I can call Arbortex Editor from a batch file, loading the correct document and stylesheet. Then all I want is to compose to pdf (with document's name, using stylesheet I have loaded). In the manual they talk of using -c "print" startup command option. I could do this and direct it to a pdf printer but that seems to be a bit of a workaround. I have also seen compose::compose_pdf_macro(), this is not really ideal as there are a lot of files that we need to update, I would rather that it happen wihtout user input. Also, where do I find documentaition on these commands?Thasnk for your help,Mark
I have a few macros that add infos to objects to aid selecting them later in the macro. At the end of the macro, I use the DELETE OBJECT_INFO DEEP command to remove these infos so the items changed in the macro are not changed again next time the macro is run on a different part of a drawing.Trouble is, that the DELETE OBJECT_INFO DEEP command removes all infos on everything, meaning that infos cannot become permanent parts of drawing objects.I would like to be able to be able to have infos (for existence part numbers) attached to drawn items so that you can run macros to select them later, but to do this I would have to start removing specific infos, leaving on the ones that are meant to be permanent. Is there a way to do this?
Hey folks, I'm working at getting my MIL-HDBK put to bed and my boss asked me to get the bookmarks (the left frame that is a TOC) working. I read up on this a bit in the 'help center' and the implication I get is that I need to have the publishing engine (not the print app) in order to do this.I am using a FOSI to produce my output with Epic 5.4 (still haven't loaded 6.0 on the machine with the print license). So any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Lynn
Hello all,We are working on implementing PDMLink 9.1 with Arbortext here and I have a question. When you use the built-in object browser within Editor, the structure displayed follows the document structure.[cid:image002.png@01CC47B6.3481BF00]When you use the display the structure within PDMLink browser I can't seem to find the way to sort the same way. It seems to only want to sort numerically and not base on document structure.[cid:image005.jpg@01CC47B6.34971BC0]Does anyone know how to sort by document structure within PDMLink. Thanks in advance,BrianBrian York-<">mailto:->Exmark Mfg. All,Having trouble getting an SGML instance to load in Editor (5.2). Doesn't like two specific @key values. Hi Folks— I’m running into an issue with a customization. We are defining custom menu entries, some of which contain special characters like U+2611 (check box with check: ? for those of you with font support in email). Everything works OK in my Windows Vista + Arbortext 5.4 setup, but the special characters don’t appear in the customer’s Windows XP + Arbortext 5.4 setup. Has anyone run into this before? If so, did you find a workaround for displaying these special characters? Thanks for any wisdom you can share. --Clay Clay HelbergSenior ConsultantTerraXML
I've got a macro that creates a text file, then I want it to open the text file in Notepad at the end.I tried the edit command (noted in the documentation for 7.1, but apparently supported on versions 7.0 F000 and later - I'm using 7.0 M050):edit "c:\WINDOWS\notepad.exe" gl_write_file_name(gl_write_file_name is my variable for the file to be opened.)I get an error message when it gets to the edit command:"Illegal value has been used"I've also tried it with a specific filename (rather than using a variable for the filename):edit "c:\WINDOWS\notepad.exe" "X:\Illustrators Info\illustrators files\Tim Sharp\2011-07-15 drawings.txt"but it still gives the same error.Strangely, if I use the command without specifying a filename:edit "c:\WINDOWS\notepad.exe" ""it does not give the error. What it does is pop up the "Run Macro" box (the one accessed from "more macros..." when you select "Macros" from the menu) but still it does not open Notepad.Am I doing something wrong or could there be a bug i
Hi,I work for an aerospace industry in the technical publication office. We use Arbortext Editor to create and modify Data Modules (.sgml files) acording to the AECMA 1000D. One of our customers is having trouble with our documents due to the automatic processing instructions that Epic Editor write in the .sgml files, like:file:///C:/DATI/0_Raccolta%20SpecificheXXXX/Epic/proced/proced.fos" type="text/x-fosi" media="editor" alternate="yes">This kind of tags, are not visible to the author with the Epic Editor interface, they can be viewed and removed only using a text editor like Note Pad. I've read that the last two instructions () can be removed by turning set writepi=off on the advanced settings. But what about the first two instructions? The first one reports to the hard disk location of the DTDs and Style Sheets used by the program to open the file, the second one is an automatic string with programs information that Epic put at the beginning of every document that is saved. Can i
I am trying to install an instance of Arbortext 5.3M040 PE on a newserver (64-bit, Win2008 Server EE). The Adobe Universal Print Driver that ships with distiller server isn'tcompatible with Win 2008 (at least per the Adobe forums). Any ideas on a good generic postscript driver for LPT1 port to use withPE? Since I can't get distiller server to install the generic distillerdriver (what the PE documentation says is used internally for testing),I'll need to come up with something else. Thanks -Jason A. Hi all,Is there a best practice or common practice for specifying a particular font for a particular language in Styler? For an unlikely hypothetical, say I wanted French content to be displayed and printed in WingDings.Do I need to add conditonals in the stylesheet that are leveraged when my xml:lang is fr-FR? Or is there a configuration file that should be updated? I've been through a lot of the Styler and Admin documentation and see some guidance for when fonts that are not on a user's system must still be specified. And I found the bits about Combined Fonts. But neither of these areas cover my basic need to specify certain fonts for certain languages. What am I missing? Thanks so much for your help and attention to this message.Kind regards,Anne
Hello.I have recently upgraded to version 7.2 and quickly discovered that lines are no longer magnetic. The end and centre points are, but I could always snap other items to any point on a straight line. For example, if I draw an elipse and a vertical line (to represent a centre line), I would be able to drag the elipse and snap it's centre point anywhere along the line. Now, I must either snap the elipse to an end point and shift drag it to the desired location (no good if the line is not aligned to the grid), or draw a perpendicular line and snap the elipse to the end point of the perpendicular line. I have also installed this copy on to a new machine, so have I missed a setting somewhere or has this function been removed? Thanks.
My question is simple. Is there a hot or quick key combination for "select element" window? I use it a lot and it seems ridiculous to have to navigate to the menu bar everytime I want to use it. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I'm trying to work out the properties of an ellipse so that I know it's x and y extents.Using the Complex Data Types, "ellipse radius" seems to give the maximum radius from the centre, but I don't know how to get the minimum radius. When you select an ellipse, the status bar on screen shows the values for it - with the maximum radius first (though the icon shows a diameter), then what appears (from its icon) to be the minimum diameter (it equates to the Complex Data Types "ellipse value"). However, when I draw a line across the narrow width of the ellipse, it's length doesn't match this value. What is this "ellipse value" and does it have a relationship to the minimum radius/dimeter? If not, how can the minimum radius or diameter be worked out?
Hi all,I'm looking for a way to call the first topic title on a PDF page into a header. The GUI in Styler 5.4 gets me about halfway there. I can Insert>Element Content and select the first title started on page, but I end up with fig and table titles as well. Does anyone know if I can use an XPath expression to drill down on a specific page? Many thanks for your attention,Anne
According to PTC documentation with content management systems track changes can be only applied to single object . If the tagging for a change tracking change affects more than one object, then the system will not interpret the change tracking information correctly.Any suggestions/workarounds?
Hi guys,One of our customers is trying to upgrade their system to Arbortext Editor 6.0 and has hit a roadblock.[cid:image001.png@01CC37E7.5E5C6BB0]In case you can't read the graphic above, the error message says:(-103) Cannot checkout an uncounted license within a Windows Terminal Services guest session. What the customer is trying to do is work with Arbortext Editor from home, just as they have for years previously in 5.3 and 5.4. The customer connects to his work desktop via Windows Remote Desktop. In this case, it seems that their node-locked license in Editor 6.0 does not want to play ball with Remote Desktop.Has anyone else encountered this problem yet?[cid:image002.jpg@01CC37E7.5E5C6BB0]Gareth Oakes+61-439-743-740
We use lots of 3d data files as a basis for our drawings.Once they are converted to 2d files, we clear away lots of the border lines to make them look cleaner and more like proper drawings. With iges files, these lines generally become Pen type "Border" so that I can write a macro to remove selected "Border" pen types. However, when use a converted 3d PDF file (by storing it as a vrml file before loading into Isodraw), it doesn't add border lines unless we use a lower Thin Line Threshold. It then makes all border lines into thin lines so there's no way to separate them out in a macro. Is there a way to specify the linetype for Isodraw to use for Surface Borders?
I've done a few macros that ask the user to select a couple of points on a drawing and then the macro draws something based on the position of the points. The problem is that despite adding 'select none' into the macro, a line at one of the selected points always remains selected after the macro has finished.I've done a minimalist version below to illustrate the point.macro test_select message "Pick a point on your drawing" define me as MouseEvent define start_x as point define start_y as point me = Wait MouseClick start_x = me.ptMMGrid.x start_y = me.ptMMGrid.y create line (start_x + 10) (start_y + 10) (start_x + 25) (start_y + 25) select noneend macroTheres no problem if you just pick an empty point on the drawing, but if the cursor snaps to a line or ellipse, that line or ellipse becomes selected and remains so after the macro finishes. Is there a way to stop this?
Hi all,In illustrations instead of using callouts we use normal text command placing callouts(numbers).I've created macro to select each number and place a polygon around each number. But if same number is available twice in the illustration. The macro places the polygon in between the two like numbers. Its because for selecting each number I use select if text is equal to command. I would like to know whether any macro can be created to select the same numbered text can be selected one by one. Thanks & RegardsVaduga
Helllo,Thanks for looking, my problem may be simple - but it has been driving me crazy! I want to select an object based on its element ID (Object ID). I have tried a group and a line and i5 doesn't select the object. I have even tried SELECT IF. As a last ersort I used tool on the main toolbar, edit menu -> Select... and nothing is selected. When I find an element ID using ISM (el.element_id) it returns the number (not the "AUTOID_") so I have also tried only the number part. If you look at the 7.1 Macro Language Reference documentation, page 64 I have followed the examples, even changing some wording around, just encase a typo exist in the documentation.Has anyone had a similar problem and found a solution? Many thanksAlan
I processed a job as a Revision and it came out with rev bars. How do I get rid of them?

Hello, I'd like to pick the lobes of those of you who have hadexperience with supporting offsite (particularly offshore) Arbortextinstallations. Basically, I am supporting a set of authors in India, who up until 3weeks ago, were using a custom directory on one of their servers that Ikept r-synced with a custom directory on a US server. We are usingEditor 5.3 M040 on WinXP SP3 PCs, most are new (dual-core, 2G RAM orbetter). We are working with an in-house developed DTD and FOSI. We have recently gotten them access to our test server with the customdirectory we use to test changes before migrating to production, whichis a server located in the US. What I am experiencing is starting the India Editor can take 1-4 minuteson startup when loading with the US server custom directory. If theIndia Editor is pointing to the India server custom directory, Startuptime is less than a minute. Where things get really odd is once I get the India Editor open whenreading from the US server custom file, o
