As promised, here is Post 1 in the new series of Creo tips from our expert product managers. Each post includes about 15 minutes of video how-tos aimed at skilling up your CAD proficiency—whether you’ve just started using Creo or consider yourself an old pro. So much for the ado. Let’s jump in! 1. Getting Granular: Copy Geometry from Multiple Components You can pass any type of geometric reference information and user-defined parameters to and from parts, skeleton models, and assemblies using the Copy Geometry feature. Normally, you can only copy geometry (like curves, surfaces, or datum planes) from a single source component. However, in this tutorial, Creo Product Manager, Arnaud van de Veerdonk shows you how to manually copy geometry from multiple assembly components using a single shrink wrap feature. Watch how to do it: 2. Simplify Your Mesh by Removing Small Features … Quickly and Easily Simplifying a model by removing smal
Community, How do you save a custom symbol? I created four, and I could not find a way to save them. Thanks in advance.
I just created a support case for Creo Parametric 6 and received this message: Very confused, I went to the product calendar and looked up the 'standard support end date' for Creo 6: How is this even possible? Creo 6.0 is the latest version of Creo Parametric currently offered by PTC. How can support for 6.0 be cut off when 7.0 hasn't even been released yet? Granted, 7.0 is supposed to be released sometime this month, but how can there be zero overlap between the products. Surely the 6.0 support should extend until at least the first maintenance release of 7.0, shouldn't it?
I have one catalog part from one supplier, that in it's catalog he says what it's part's weight. He suplies a 3d simplified part, so CREO is unable to calculate it's weight. I'me building a family table with all the family components. So, is there any way to change PRO_MP_DENSITY to have the final weight of the part, according to the provided part? Example: the catalog says one family item weighs 3.1Kg, but Creo according to the simplified drawn part, calculates 5.2Kg, so for measuring correctly the assembly weight, e need that part to weighs the 3.1 Kg.
I'm in the process of trying to obtain a license across a VPN connection. In viewing the license file; the previous admin had set the Server and Daemon to 2 different ports. Up to this point everything I have read has used the same port for both. Is there a logical reason to set it up this way? Should I make them the same? Hello, I just started using Creo 4.0 a few days ago, and I cant find a way to set units to mm and/or inch on the same part. I've used Solidworks for the past 2 years and It was very easy to work with different units on the same sketch. Just had to dimension and a little window pops up that asks for X amount of Y units, so you can mix between using mm or inches depending on what you're doing. Can someone help me find a way to emulate this on Creo 4.0 parametric? Thanks in advance
What is the relation between Creo and WildFire? Do we still need WildFire for Creo 4.0? If we need, which Wildfire version is compatible for Creo 4.0 M080 and above?
Just FYI, I have asked questions about this particular topic before, but I'm having issues with a completely new model: https://community.ptc.com/t5/Simulation/Parts-disconnecting-during-static-analysi/m-p/618144#M7861 I am trying to analyze a linkage structure with hydraulic cylinders and pins using contacts but I am running into issues with the model disconnecting and parts getting insane levels of deflection (like 100X what they should be) during the run. The most frustrating part is that it meshes without a single warning/issue and I ran several conditions on it last week without a problem. In the last year I have had this problem with 3 different assemblies and it seems to be totally random with no way to fix it other than scrapping the model and starting over. I am about to lose my mind trying to figure out this issue and I really don't want to spend another week setting up this model again. Does anyone have any clue what would cause models to randomly disconne
Still learning 4.0, but have an issue where the control frame font is different on a feature versus free note/note attachment. In the attached picture, the top frame is on a dimension and looks normal. The second frame is how it looks when I attach to a note or use the frame as a freenote. The third frame is still a free note, but if I copy the modifiers from the control frame attached to a dimension, they appear normal. However, I cannot change the position symbol as it is from a drop down menu. Any ideas how to fix this?
Hi Folks, Consider a part (.prt) file that is used to define a component that is to be 3D-printed or cast. I'd like to now take that part and refine it by machining it. I could create an assembly, insert the cast part, then apply assembly cuts and modifications. I'm told to stay away from this because the model becomes unstable and I believe I have witnessed this in the past where the model crashes on occasion. What is the best alternative to doing this? I have approached using 'copy geometry', but that does not appear to be conducive to achieving the outcome because you can only copy surfaces, not solids. Hence, nothing to cut once copied. I think I am aiming to have the 2 models associate with one another, so if the cast/printed part changes, the machined part will update (manually if not automatically). Thank you.
Hello all, I did a search on this forum for an answer but have had no luck yet. I have an assembly open right now and in the bottom right of the screen (beside the filter) there is a blue "D" with a red "X" through it. Placing the mouse over this tell me that "The model is disconnected." What exactly does this mean? I have noticed this before, but i do not know if it pertains only to assemblies or not. Any help out there? Thanks in advance.
Hello everybody, I would ask you why in a simple imposed rotation I have a consistent volume reduction of the component near the pin. I used Creo 6.0.4 Thanks Bye
Have a sketch that is basically copied from a profile of external geometry and then deleted all references and picked two planes and then solved the sketch to make it independent of the external geometry. The only issue I have is that the sketch constraints try and dimension to one another. Is there a way to force the dimensions to not be able to dimension to one another but only go back to the default plane references i defined?
Greetings I'm an undergraduate mechanical engineering student working on graduation project (Exechon robot ), that robot has complex kinematics ,so I have chosen to do it in a simulation software but faced many obstacles and during searching I found a simulation video of my project made by Creo . I don't know any thing about Creo software but I'm amazed by it and want to know if I can reach my target by it . what I want to do : import my design and Creation of kinematics like joints between bodies and constraints ...etc . create path , use inverse kinematics solver to move the robot joints thus the robot tool follow the path . export motion profile of joints . Doing engineering tasks like milling or drilling . in the end I uploaded the video that attracted me here . Best regards, Abdelrahman
Hello All, I have limited experience in doing dynamic analysis in Creo mechanism so hopefully I am missing something easy. I have a pretty easy analysis I am working where my only load is gravity and I am looking at the effects of a 2 point lifting fixture that has a load held tight at one end and the other end has the equivalent of 1" of slack. Ideally I could idealize wire rope (that's for another topic) but for now I am using a couple of modeled linkages for my simplified cables. The intent is to determine the acceleration of catching the load with the 1" of slack in it and the overall movement of the lifting fixture and load. This seems to work but I have found when I change the measure I am looking for or change the frame rate I get wildly different results. I can have what looks like what I would expect, take a copy of that analysis and boost the frame rate, to make export to video formats time correctly, and get completely different results. Why would the graphical frame r
We are using Framework extension to create a building frame using steel structures and then adding some piping work files to the frame. We now need to create a shrink-wrap of the assembly to use as a background for some additional component placement. The designers are having u=issues with generating a good shrink-wrap that can be imported into another assembly and use it to dimension these additional components to. Is there a trick to using shrink-wraps with framework created parts? Creo 4 m080 with Windchill 11.0 mo030 CPS 16
Hello everyone! I am working with macros using OTK Java.I need to run one macro twice.Once I do this and everything works, and on the second start, an XToolkitNotValid exception is thrown.I tried to activate the window before running the macro, display the model, etc.But nothing helped.Does anyone know what the problem is?Thanks in advance. Regards!
Community, Consider the below image. There are two curves created with the Sketch Tool (datum curve sketching). Is there a way to merge these two curves to make them act as one curve? Thank in advance.
Creo 4, M100 I was playing around with trace curves in a toy mechanism model I created to understand how they behave and I noticed a few things I didn't expect. The mechanism I created is a rotating double pendulum - a double pendulum attached to a pivoting center component. The analysis type is dynamic and the only load I have is gravity. There's no friction or damping so no energy loss. Because the trace curve tool requires a .pbk file and because I understood .pbk files to only be a record of each frame, I wondered how frame rates would affect the trace curve accuracy. So I ran several analyses with different frame rates (1, 10, 100, & 1000, all starting from the same arbitrary snapshot), created trace curves for them, and compared the differences. After 1 second, the difference between 1 FPS & 1000 FPS was less than 1 millimeter. After 2 seconds, the difference was so great that the curves ended on different sides of the assembly. At first, I was
Is it possible to have a parameter emptied when I copy a part? For example: I have a parameter for "Drawing number", and when I copy the part I want this field to be empty so this Drawing number will not be used twice by mistake.
I am trying to connect my Creo4 session to the Windchill11 server. File - Manager Session - Server Management I see my 2 Windchill servers are registered but both are offline. (Offline is fine here since I last used Creo unconnected to Windchill.) Click on the Windchill server I want to use and uncheck Work Offline. The Workspace list is empty, so I get no Windchill registration to Creo. I can open Edge and login to Windchill, create a workspace and even add a file to the workspace. Go back to Creo and it does not see any workspaces to register. Creo 4 M080 Windchill 11 m030 CPS08 I am using the wcadmin account, so should see all. I wonder if the local cache may be corrupt as I switch between user names and Windchill servers frequently. I also do a lot of work unconnected to Windchill.
I am trying to move my WF3 installation to a new computer running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I have got it up and running but the setup ignores my specified start-up directory and insists on launching Proe under C:\Users\<user name>\documents\. I have found a way to run the ptcsetup.bat file in the bin directory by forcing the file to set the machine type to i486_nt but I have not found out how to force the start-up directory to what I want. Can anybody advice me a way to solve this? I have a similar problem lurking - installing Intralink 3.4. The same issue here, up and running but will not accept my chosen start-up directory and launching again in the C:\Users ... etc as above. HELP!
Community, Does anyone know how to make a chain lanyard using the Sweep tool. The type of chain lanyard I want to model is the type you see to retain electrical caps after you unscrew the cap from a port. This way the cap is not lost. The chain would be similar to the old "dog-tag" chain issued my the armed forces. Thanks in advance. Chain Lanyard
Sometimes moving "Insert here" in the model tree is not working. Now I tried to record my Creo window while moving the "Insert here" and it did not work. I stopped recording and suddenly I can move it again. I am recording with "Screenpresso". Why does this happen?
