Windchill

So I have completed the Customizing ThingWorx Navigate PDF and found it very useful, but not being a developer I am having a difficult time moving beyond the information provided.  What I am currently trying to do is a search based on one specific saved search.  In the training material we pull in a list of saved searches.  I figured out how to limit that down to only global ones, but I would like to not have my users worry about selecting the type of search.  How can I set this up to use one search.

HiI have two assembly on local disk. A.asm and B.asm is name of assemblies. These two assemblies have one child part only that is P.prt.What we want to do is that these three physical files need to be checked into windchill from Creo.For this purpose, I am opening a.asm and hence by doing auto check in, I got A.asm and P.prt with version as A.1 into windchill. I am removing both objects from workspace and memory of Creo. Next I am doing loading of B.asm and then I am doing check in. This gives me B.asm as A.1 where as it updates P.prt to A.2How to load all data with version as A.1 instead of A.2 or something else.Would be of great help if someone can help me to do this with steps to be followed.Feel free to ask for any query if I have not make query clear.

When we create a file in Creo and assign the pro_mp_mass to a parameter named Weight, we save the file and it uploads the weight to a Windchill attribute named Weight. We can see the value of weight in the Parameters screen in Creo in pounds, but in the Workspace. the weight has been converted to Kg.   Where do you apply the setting in Windchill that weights are in pounds or at least in the same units as they are in Creo?

after moving to version A.3 how do you remove iterations A.1 and A.2?? i would appreciate any help that can be givenThanks in advanceBrian

I feel like I have posted on this topic before but just looking for a quick poll here. How many sites keep their CAD model, drawing and WTPart in rev sync and how many allow them to vary?  It all comes down to your specific CM rules and numbering system but curious what other sites do.   We have ours in rev sync and it has made things really easy.  I would be interested to know at that site that do not keep them in sync, how you deal with keeping all the associations together especially with owner links and the like.  Did you need to change some preferences in your system to not go batty.

Is it possible to increase the string length of custom attributes? I am using a custom attribute to list all of the item numbers associated with that particular document to make it searchable. The max string length is 500 which is too short for some of the documents we have. Is it possible to increase this to 2000 - 2500?

I'm curious as to if anyone has already upgraded to Windchill 11.2 or is planning on going to Windchill 11.2?  We are looking at upgrading to it because of document classification, but someone told me to go to 11.1 instead which doesn't have document classification.   Thoughts on this?   Thanks!

Have seen this in the community already, so apologies for the duplication.Anytime our users click a hyperlink from an Office Product (might even be more) and they don't have an authenticated session established to Windchill through SSO, the URL is getting truncated.  I have been round and round with our Web/SSO teams, PTC TS and the EDC, and we are still nowhere closer to a solution.I have seen a solution where the URL gets sent off for manipulation before going to SSO...basically encoding the # character...not sure how to do that or even if that will be acceptable in our landscape. Hello, How can I get an email notification(subscription) when anything like folder, wtpart, document or cad document is created or shared from one product context to to a specific project container?   Can anyone provide detailed step of this??  

I wanted to display the group name of the user as the name of the action.

I created a report to find out when a user last logged in by using the "Audit Record" table. Now I want to filter out any user that is in a specific group. This group is called "Deactivated" and it would be the only group they are in if they are in fact deactivated. How can I create this filter in my report?   I tried putting a link the Audit Record table to the "User" table but it won't let me create one.

I'm new to this forum and looking for information on how to get started with the Windchill API. It is very difficult for me to get started. A few words in advance: I have been working as a designer with Inventor since 2008 and started programming Inventor at that time. Meanwhile I have also developed and released some Inventor apps. With VB.NET and VBA I know my way around.   My previous searches didn't give me a clue where to start. Which references do I have to set and is there somewhere a reasonable manual with an example. I checked the eSupport and found a lot of documents, but nothing that really helps at my actual point of skills. I’m not a Windchill administrator, only a user with some basic knowledge.   Now to my request. I want to check from an Inventor add in whether a file is checked out in the workspace or not.   What is the workflow and required tools to achieve the need information? Hello all,I have an ICN that is succeded as shown in Windchill. But when I check in KBM, there was nothing published. I can also see that the objects in resulting objects table are still in Approved state. This is wrong because once ICN is succeded, then all the state of the objects in Resulting objects table should be changed to Released State. Can anyone please help me how to publish these objects to KBM and why thus error occurs??

In setting up WTparts for Creo CAD files, we have the Number set to the name for the CAD parts. Not sure if this is OOTB or something in the OIR. When I check in with Auto Associate, I get the WTpart with the Name being the same as the CADpart name, but the number is a sequences driven number. We want the number of the WTpart to be the same as the name, just like the CADpart. I have looked at the OIRs for the existing system and both have references to a sequence number, so not sure what is overriding that. Is this a setting in Preferences?   I know I can turn off file extensions for the number, but this causes a conflict with drawing files. The part or assembly get checked-in and the file extension is dropped, but when the drawing goes to be checked-in, you get a must be unique warning. Is there some way to do this, too?   Windchill 11 m030 CPS16

Hi,I have a part that was created in the active window of an assembly, I used that assembly simply as a reference for some of the geometry created on the new part (hole locations) and that assembly has been deleted and removed from the session and windchill. I am now unable to check in my part because it says “cannot check in place holder document Assembly” then it names the assembly that I used as a reference which is now non existent. Is there any way to break off my parts dependency to this nonexistent ASM? Am I doomed to never be able to check in my part because it is tied to this deleted ASM? Surely there is a way that Creo can just redefine the holes in the exact location they are in and get rid of the necessity to be tied to the reference upon which the holes were created. I know the holes used that ASM as a reference but surely a computer program can just keep the holes in the exact 3D coordinate space that they are currently located in without needing to tie it back to the ref

Is it possible to Create 1 ECN  that refers to or encapsulates many ECRs raised on the same item. I have several ECRs raised on the same document. Currently 1 submission / approval of ECR creates 1 "Create Change Notice"  task in our Windchill 11.2 system. So I get a new document revision for each change request/ change Notice. I only want to have one revised version of the document  for the multiple change requests. How do I do this???

Is it possible to update quickly a maintenance task in all blocks in a RBD at a time , this way not having to update one by one??   Thanks 

I have done some cursory tests and cannot get the system to default to blank when Parts are added to Affected Data.  I cleared the default value and I do have an Enumerated list of values for each Inventory Disposition column.  I want to ensure there is positive indicators of a choice for Inventory Dispositions, not just accepting the defaults. Ideally, I would like blank to show up indicating that nothing was selected yet. Tried restarting server but seems to always default to first value in enumerated list though blank is a choice on the row above in drop down.  I do not have a setting that value is required in constraints.

Promotion Requests out of the box have an "Owner" role that is the initial creator. What's really nice about this is that in the Members table, you can change the "Owner" in case someone else needs to take over future tasks that would have gotten assigned to the Creator.    We have other Workflows that use the Creator role in downstream tasks, but there's no way to change the Creator. At best, all we can do is reassign the individual tasks after they are created.    How can a Workflow be configured so that the Owner role shows up in the Members table and can be updated just like on a Promotion Request?

So the topic of materials has been discussed before in this forum, but I'm not sure there has been a solution I've been happy with. I was hoping someone can share their amazing idea on materials management that I haven't thought of. Here is the basic wish list - somehow connect between WindChill and Creo: Material Properties file Material Note in Drawing (soon in model for MBD) Material Finish in Drawing (soon in model for MBD) Detailed material in WindChill (like sheetmetal gauge.. etc) Detailed finish in WindChill Allow for material variations within Creo and WindChill (a part can have multiple colors) Allow for a material spec to be linked to these materials.   The goal is to not have the user edit the materials and finish 3 different times for three different places. Even if you don't have a magical solution to do all of this, if you have something that is 'unique' and you are proud of, I would love to hear it!   Thanks!  

Hi all,    I am currently developing a C++ toolkit customization for Workgroup Manager and I am using the workspace viewer (wwgmtkWorkspaceViewer_ptr) function getWorkspaceObjectByEpmName() to search for a specific EPM Document by its filename. From my initial testing, it appears that the getWorkspaceObjectByEpmName() function searches the current local workspace as intended, but also the Windchill commonspace which is not desired. Can anyone confirm this functionality and educate me on how to prevent searching commonspace?   If searching the Windchill commonspace is by design and there is not a workaround, does anyone know how to determine if the returned workspace object (wwgmtkWorkspaceObject_ptr or wwgmtkEpmDocument_ptr) was located in the local workspace or commonspace?

While performing a “Replace from Windchill” function from CATIA - In the next window, the Search Function doesn’t work as the one on WWGM main page. It only searched on File Name column. Could it be improved to behave like the "Search" function on WWGM main page, which search objects all major attributes? Thanks for your attention.

Any pointers on setting up Altium management in WindChill/PDM Link.  Wondering how others are controlling their project files, libraries, sheets, and the like.    My use is WindChill 11 Altium 19    What I have noticed is schematics and boards are independent, when making them in windchill but in real life, they are not.     Hoping to shed some light on this.  Looking forward to where you all can point me.
