We recently found that Query Builder is creating SQL that performs very poorly (full table scans) specially if ProjectLink and/or SUMA was used and wanted to know if anyone else has seen this? We think we found out why and wonder it it might be affecting commonly used customization code as well.   We are heavy users of Query Builder and have some very large clients with large DBs, One recently reported very poor performance of a large QB query and asked us to investage. We discovered that the SQL generated was doing full table scans and was taking many minutes to execute. We looked at the SQL and found that there was a union on a table called WorkItem and ProjectWorkItem. We wrote some example code using java to mimic the creation of SQL. It turns out that the ORM model of Windchill means that if includeDependencies is on the API uses this union structure in the SQL that is causing the full table scan.   Q1. The following topic in the Windchill Help Center describes Windchill capabilities for deriving multiple part structures while reusing the same CAD structure:   Multiple Windchill Part Structures Sharing the Same CAD Structure   This is exactly what we were looking for, to deal with e.g. identical parts but in a different colour, or with a different material (e.g. standard inox 304 but on customer request inox 316).   However it seems rather immature and preliminary.   Anyone can share his or her experience with this in an Industrial setting?   And also: we put article number and name on our 2D drawings. A pdf is generated for each drawing by the worker and is exported to the ERP system upon release. However from the docs it doesn't seem there is support to change attributes on the drawing according to the part properties of the specific part which is released.   E.g. consider one CAD prt file with one drw file, linked to two Windchill p

Does anybody have a solution in Windchill for added a family table instance to a generic while still keeping the revision of the generic and all existing instances the same? Currently when we have the need to add an instance it falls on the WC admin to set the state of the generic and all instances from Released to In Work, and then the designer adds the new instance, Checks In, and generates the Promotion Request. Upon approval the generic and all instances are back to Released at the same revision. We are trying to offload this burden from the admin to a standard workflow practice for all designers.Ordinarily this would involve a Revise, but we cannot burden our CNC programmers here with updating all revisions to existing programs whenever we add an instance (the existing instance geometry is not changing, essentially we are just generating a new object). We have a large assembly, when it is being published, it seems to bog down command execution times while a user has it open in Creo. Is this related between the two operations or something else going on?

Hello,I am looking to trigger a catia macro prior to or post PDM actions.  Our intent is that when a user performs an action such as Save, or check in from either the CATIA app or WGM Workspace, a CATIA macro would be triggered before or after the event.Would the WGM toolkit be the solution for creating and implementing this type of functionality?  Are there any references available to better my understanding of the logic?Thanks!

My company is using PDM Essentials.  We're on Release 10.2 M020-CPS08.   Is it possible to add/update parameters and designate them without checking out part/assembly files?  If so, how?

I have our publisher set up to publish .stp files for assembly and part files. This works fine for all but one of the users that I have checked. When this one user checks in an assembly it seems to work correctly. It's not clear where to start.Want to navigate a part structure in Java (i.e. get WTPart, follow WTPartUsageLink, ...)Can anyone suggest which APIs to begin looking at / to use?At first, wt.part.StandardWTPartService looked good, but I can't figure out how to find & load the initial "WTPart" or "WTPartMaster".Alternatively, we could achieve our goals using tasks with XSLT, but the perception here is using Java API will be more efficient - thoughts?

My company currently uses Creo/Windchill in Montreal, but is looking into providing our US-based office Creo/Windchill licences.   The catch is we want to take a full CAD project that Montreal was working on, make an exactly copy, and starting modifying it. We also want to implement version control and an internal drawing release process.    Is is possible to create a whole new server with custom admins and contributors? Or can we create a copy of the project and assign custom Admins that have release/edit/check-in/out permissions?   Not sure about the best way to go about this. If there's a Windchill/Creo expect/sales specialist, I would be happy to talk to them.   Thanks.

Good morning everyone,   I have a problem related to WPA (Product Analytics). Particularly, with the IPC-1752A generator files: 1752Spreadsheet_ClassA.xlsm and 1752Spreadsheet_ClassD.xlsm. In order to let the suppliers fill correctly the XLM files (IPC 1752 format related to material compliance), we have to provide them the above mentioned spredsheet. The problem is that, due to the REACh Regulation, every 6 months (almost), the software WPA is updated with the newest references, but the spreadsheets above aren't updated too. In particular, the latest updates are dated as: 1752Spreadsheet_ClassA.xlsm: 12/02/2014 1752Spreadsheet_ClassD.xlsm: 05/06/2015 So it's impossible to let the suppliers fill correctly the generated XML files.   If I check the support (http://www.1752builder.com/login?next=/ ) to try to contact  the developing team, they website said this:   There are other IPC-1752 generators (http://www.ipc.org/ContentPage.

I am having troubles defining custom data types in a workflow and would appreciate it if someone can give me some advice. To create a new variable in an activity, the "Type Name" has to be selected from the existing data types. It is possible to import a custom class using "Windchill classes", so I tried using the com.acme.Pet (from the tutorial) but this only shows the label and there is no field to assign the value to. How can I specify the type of the value? If I want to have a dropdown, like for the wt.org.WTUser, with dog, cat and Gerbil, how should I proceed?    Thank you for your help in advance!

We're having issues with publishing Creo and Solidworks files on a test environment with the latest Creo Adapters.  The workers are set up, configured and seemingly functioning. For both Creo and Solidworks, the "Test Server" comes back successful but on publishing we get an error. I've looked thru the community here and there are a couple of topics dealing with the --15 error. Hello, if I externalize some code from a Workflow (right click over workflow -> Externalize Expressions), how can I modify it? Is it possible to modify the generated .java file and recompile it somehow afterwards?Thank you very much in advance

I'm having a problem with Manufacturing Product Structure Explorer.  Windchill 11 M030 (on the Cloud), Windows 10, Internet Explorer 11,  WGM 11 M030, Inventor 2017 Pro. fresh install of Java 1.8.0 161 ( Firefox and Chrome do not support Java per IT)   So the situation is, when I attempt to "Open in Manufacturing Product Structure Explorer" the system wants to install a Java applet (or so it appears).  I've installed updated Java, make sure the permissions are there, and allow the cloud server permission as best I can figure out.  It still will not open. I've looked for blocked popups and can't seem to find any. I've specifically allowed popups from every site that seems to be involved with this issue.Any ideas?  Thx in advance

Hello,   I found this article https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article?n=CS251134 but I can't read everything, because we have some problems with maintenance. We already create PDF, DXF for a drawing in windchill, but it would be great to also have a high resolution JPG. According to the given article, it should be possible, but I can't find how it's done. Does somebody know, what the steps are to get a jpg?   Thanks in advance

Should calendar delegation allow someone who is not a member of a particular role the ability to do work as if they are part of that role?  Is this normal?   I have a context role for promotion approvers.  If one of these approvers delegates their work to someone else not in that role, the delegated individual is then allowed to complete promotion requests that get forwarded to them, even though they are not a member of the promotion approvers role.  The calendar delegation is effectively bypassing role membership.  This seems wrong to me.  Short of adding some type of custom business rule logic to all workflows, is there some way to prevent this?

With the discovery of Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities, Microsoft is releasing patches to fix these.   These are hardware bugs, only fixable with software patches that will cause performance degradation as much as 30% (speculation).   System Administrators, In cases where the machine is dedicated to Windchill (and with trusted applications installed and running) are you skipping these Windows patches, in behalf of no performance loss?   Is PTC analyzing these vulnerabilities and benchmarking the impact of these corrections?   More info: Meldown and Spectre ( official page and papers) Windows KB page  

Is there a system setting to turn on publishing a WTPart?  The representation is carried froward from the CAD doc just fine when they are all checkout  / checkin together.  The issue I am seeing is when a WTPart is iterated due to adding additional information to it...then you have to manually click on the viewable on the details page to get the system to create a publish job.  This seems like there should be a setting someplace.Thanks,Greg

Hello CommunityI am struggling a little bit with the status of layers in drawing mode.First my configuration, in the condition file I am using the "MODEL_TYPE" value to setup the right checks.(A type for drawing is completely missing? Is this true?)At the end there comes the ELSE part where it moves then to the checks for drawings.When I check the layer status in a drawing, then modelcheck will duplicate my layers to the drawing and set at the end the layer status of the group (prt, asm, drw)Now I have two questions to you:1. How can I prevent modelcheck of generating new layers in the drawing and only set the right layer state?2. We do have different layers for PRT and ASM, how can I say modelcheck that the drawing comes from a PRT or an ASM? ( I tried to use the &TYPE attribute on the drawing, but it didn't worked)Anybody can help here or share his best practices?Or am I completely wrong with this layer handling?Thanks for your Help....MarcSome system information: PTC CREO 2.0 M1

Does anyone know how to configure a workflow so the approver is listed as the "promoted by" individual?  We are planning to use this information to stamp the PDFs with the approver's name but instead of the approver Windchill is showing the person who initiated the promotion request.  This is definitely not what I want.  How do I switch this so it displays the approver instead?  Do I need some type of workflow code to change the owner of the promotion request from the initiator to the approver?  Thanks!   Edit:  Added pictures.  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
