Mathcad

Inelastic flexible chain is thrown over two nails. There is no friction, no lock. How two parts of the chain are sagging. This system has one unstable equilibrium, when the length of the sagging sections of the chain are equal - see the Mathcad 15 sheet in attach. How to calculate two other stable equilibria, when one section of the chain approaches a straight line, but remains in the form of a catenary (see the picture).  

Hi,   Basically, i am trying to calculate deflection of a beam by using Mathcad. But I cant define my range variable with units (mm). I believe using range variable are not allowed as input for the multiple user defined as in the photo. Is there any way to input value using range values with units into a multiple user defined function and then plot the graph?     Thank you,

See this discussion:   https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=439172   As a first pass, if I'm going to even think about paying for the new version of MathCAD, it needs to be able to have the functionality of the version I'm replacing (11 or 12, I think).    All (and I mean ALL) of the keymapping and defaults seem to be gone, except for the universal Windows based hotkeys/shortcuts.    Is there a way, within the current free trial version, to remap the keyboard shortcuts for things like superscripts, subscripts (both text and actual matrix based subscripts) in such a way that I don't have to relearn all new shortcuts to software that I've been using over 20 years?    Thanks. 

I'm trying to make a bode plot, what am I doing wrong? and how should I do?

I'd like to use maximize or minimize in combination with a Monte Carlo analysis.  I made a simple model, and it works.  Usually.  However, sometimes it returns something right around my guess value.  I'm thinking I'm at the mercy of the numerics of the solve block.  It takes a small step in one direction, the unlucky monte carlo says it's the wrong direction and it never goes that way again.  Anyone have any tricks that would help it converge to the proper solution more often?   Attached example is pretty simple.  It's random points thrown in a square with a circle at the center.  It changes the size of the circle to max/min the number of points inside.  So, it should solve either R=1 for maximize or R=0.5 for minimize (per the constraints).  I get the correct answer about 80% of the time, but I get the guess value the remainder.  I understand that a monte carlo is never perfect, but I was not expected this many wrong ans

Hi, In the attached sheet Minimize is not working correctly. The Minimize value given changes to the Guess value all the time giving an incorrect result. Further in the sheet I am using Find to solve a matrix equation and then using this result in a subsequent calculation (Transfer Matrix method). The first Find calculation seems to work but the second identical calc throws an undefined variable error, cannot see why. Any assistance would be appreciated. thanks Ross

Simple one, does anyone know if it is possible to plot two datasets with vary different scales and display two different scales? i.e. have two differing y axis scales? You often see graphs with one scale to the left and one to the right each with their scale and units respectively. Wondering if MC can handle this?   Cheers,   Andy

Hello eveyone,   I am trying to calculate erosion on clay levee's where the soil protection has failed. To do this I need to calculate 2 variables. The way the variables are calculated differs depending on one of the variables that I need to calculate... Hope this makes sense. To illustrate I added a picture with a program where the different ways of calculating and the statements for each phase are given.   I am trying to calculate the variable cotat and hklif. So in the case cotat < 8 it would be the equition from the first if statement.   Other variables like Hs dk hb etc are known cause they are input in the sheet.

Hi all, I have the need to use a MathCAD function (possibly) but I am not sure how to achieve what I would like the program to try to do. My situation is essentially I havea fixed-fixed beam of circular cross section with a known span L anda uniformly distributed load w.   So using standard beam equations I have the max moment is M = wL^2/12 so the max stress is S = [(wL^2/12)(OD/2)]/I where I = (pi/64)(OD^4-ID^4), OD is known and the max deflection is y = wL^4/384EI where E is a known constant.   What I would like to eventually find is the thickness t = 0.5*(OD-ID) which just satisfies y = 0.1 and S = 2000. Usually by hand, I would work use S = 2000, find the value of I and work out ID, then find t, substitute into the formula for y and see if equal to 0.1. I can probably assess it graphically but that would probably not give me too exact of an answer.   However I am not sure what functions would help me get MathCAD to automate this for me. Can anyone shed any light on
