Windchill

SCIP is an EU initiative requiring registration of products (articles) in a database accessible by the public to disclose of the presence of certain hazardous chemicals (aka SVHCs) within those products​.   Is anyone using Windchill to achieve this?

All of our prints from our publishers are done in monochrome.  We have some sites that wants to publish their prints in color.  I know we can set the option to print in color, however, I would like to gain some insight on the pros, cons and gotchas.    Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences.  

If we upgrade our Windchill Quality Solutions (11.0) to Windchill Risk and Reliability (11.1), will the program automatically convert an 11.0 Project to 11.1, or will we be required to manually perform "Convert from Older Version..." option? If automatic, will the directory with the older revision be retained? i.e. a new directory created for the 11.1 use. Asking to potentially avoid a mass conversion effort and possibly simplify/streamline upgrading to 11.1. Thank You, Tony

Hi,   Creating PDF files is impossible without "Adobe Leve Cycle".Therefore, "Worker" was written. Hi,    I would like to connect to an already opened Creo View session and retrieve the file information. Is there any API that supports this? if not is there any workaround for this?  This is possible with Creo Parametric. We can connect Creo parametric with toolkit API similar stuff is available for Creo View?

Hi All, We are planning to create substring Index on Windchill table(column) "WTPartmaster(WTPartNumber)" in order to Optimize Leading and Trailing wildcard search strings like *ABC*.I wanted to know If someone has implemented it. What are the challenges? Any performance overhead during table syncing. How does synchronization of new Substring Index table "PARTMASTERNUMBERSSI" happen as changes are made into original table WTPartmaster?Which table synchronization option is best? Event-Driven Synchronization immediately reflects the source attribute WTPartmaster( WTPartNumber) changes to Substring Index table "PARTMASTERNUMBERSSI". PTC document says “The disadvantage to this option is that extra processing time is added for the operation”. Does this mean it will impact performance? Hi,   I'm creating WTParts using import from spreadsheet functionality(OOTB). I want to apply some logic post creation of these parts but in my POST_STORE event I'm not getting target instanceof WTPart to implement logic. Is there any other way ? 

Is there any way to maintain the relation between two wtparts other than usagelink ? like reference relation between wtparts?

Hello.   I found that class com.ptc.core.adapter.server.impl.AbstractWebjectDelegate has been marked as deprecated (at least since release 11.0 but it could be marked as deprecated even earlier). However, I don't see any information, what class should be used instead of AbstractWebjectDelegate.   Is there anyone who had to use AbstractWebjectDelegate and found a replacement for it? This class is mostly used, when one wants to create his own webject delegate, so such class extends AbstractWebjectDelegate.

Hello.   I found that class wt.prefs.WTPreferences has been marked as deprecated. Sadly, there's no accurate info about why it is deprecated. The class provides some methods for getting root preference, create/set context masks and so on. WTPreferences prefs = (WTPreferences) WTPreferences.root();prefs = (WTPreferences) prefs.node(prefNode);prefs.setContextMask(PreferenceHelper.createContextMask()); Is anyone here who knows, what is the replacement for this class (or at least methods used there)?

Hello all,   We are currently investigating how to handle the upgrade of one physical product into its successor, and how to manage this in BOMs. Use case:As an ETO organization we have the situation where a product is in stock, that can be upgraded to another product through modifications.To define these modifications we are thinking about an “Alternate eBOM – Alternate mBOM” principle. The alternate eBOM for the required product would be defined based on the product in stock and the modifications required to upgrade. Based on this alternate eBOM an alternate mBOM should be created.The upgrade design is created by design engineers, after which manufacturing engineers create an mBOM definition. We see some possibilities in the alternate BOM functionality, but some limitations as well, like: How do we capture the product in stock in the alternate design? I've run into a behavior that is counter-intuitive in how Access Control Rules are applied in Windchill and would like to hear what others have done to solve this issue.  Namely: in our life cycle template I have an Obsolete state. Our users do a Set State to Obsolete for files that are no longer needed. In the access control rules, I want to prevent users from Adding to Workspace (Download permission) and continuing to use any files that are in the Obsolete state but I do want them to be able to Read the meta-data. However, when I Deny download permissions for the EPMDocument type it doesn't apply somehow and all users can still Add to Workspace and use Obsoleted parts.  So my choice is to either deny Read (and therefore Download) or allow both. At the moment, I deny Read. This makes it impossible to Obsolete a part and allow the users to see the meta data with a note in the version comments on what's replacing it.  PTC claims that the Read (without Download) only impac

I am planning to install Windchill 10.2 with SQL Server 2012 as backend database.  I have SQL server 2012 which already installed for Integrity 10.9  with ‘Latin1_General_CI_AI’ collation. So I created new named instance ‘WINDCHILL’ with collation ‘Latin1_General_100_CS_AS_SC’. During Windchill 10.2 installation, SQL server configuration does not accepts instance name ‘WINDCHILL’ it says following error “Failed to validate SQL Server master database collation as 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS' for SQL Server 2008 R2 or 'Latin1_General_100_CS_AS_SC' for SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014. I want to use a trigger from an external software to POST a New Change Notice, but I couldn't find any documentation regarding this type of exercise. In Windchill REST Services User's Guide v1.7 it only describes the GET function for Change Notices.   Is it possible to do this?

One business unit in my company has a large volume of their CAD data as Vellum drawings. The lifetime of this product line is over 25 years. We are currently using Windchill 10 and our MCAD tool is Pro/E (Creo).I know we can scan these Vellum drawings into PDF format and create a sub-type of WTDocument to be used to manage these PDF files within Windchill.Have any of you converted your Vellum drawings to CAD format, and then create a sub-type of "CAD Document" to store and manage these objects in Windchill 10? If yes you have done this;What tool did you use to convert the Vellum drawings into CAD data?Which CAD format were you able to use for this conversion?If you have any questions, or require additional information to provide a helpful response and feedback, please let me know. Hello, I have run DeleteRepUtil command to sweep all repres on specific product but seems to work kinda partially. Even there are other CADs with "default" repre it has not been deleted everywhere. Any ideas why?   Left column is before (6 repres to sweep) and right column is after delete. Expected all deleted but 4 remained...even repre name is similar.     Other questions is if it possible to republish only data on specific product? Can run WVS scheduler but for whole Org/Site which is not necessary. Thx

Hi I am a New Windchill User trying to Upgrade a Windchill installation from 11.2 to 12.   After reading through the upgrade documentation. I do not understand what the Upgrade Manager does.   As I understand it, the target system needs to have the new version of Windchill installed from scratch and have the old LDAP and database imported into this new installation before the Upgrade Manager is run.   From the documentation it says that the Upgrade Manager only upgrades the Database, but I am not sure exactly what this means and what was wrong with the old database if only Windchill upgraded?   Forgive my ignorance on this.

Hey all, I've created a custom trigger to do some cleanup after importing a reqif file from DOORS into Windchill. The script grabs the document container, walks through the contains field using walkHeirarchy(), then modifies a couple of the fields in each record. Is is possible to determine what section level an item is at?  So I need to do something different if a Heading is Section 1 vs Section 1.2.3 for example.
